So I am going to my first ever event for Heroclix, i'm an new player, and I taught myself the game by playing against myself with different teams. I've acquired a couple of high level pieces and would like to build a theme team, I have two that I need to decide between and would like to know which one is stronger overall.

Team one: Cosmic

AI #048 Starfox: 80 pts
AI #G020 Ego-Prime: 75 pts
AI #008 Pip the troll: 40 pts
BW #007 Thanos Duplicate: 50 pts
BTAS #s003: Christmas Present: 5 pts

Team two: Scientist
BW #052 Regent: 240 pts
BTAS #031 Poison Ivy: 50 pts
BW #020 Tony Stark, Inventor: 50 pts
BW #031 Alex Wilder: 25 pts
BW #019 Iron Man: 115 pts
H #011 Asylum Doctor: 20 pts
SIDELINE: BW #038 Iron man
Total: 500 pts

If theres any way I can improve either of these teams or even make a new team as a whole please let me know, I own the majority of the BattleWorld commons/uncommons and have a number of various rares from the past couple sets. I'm very excited to finally get to play but I know I have a lot of work to do before I understand how to build a good team and get better at playing, so any help would be appreciated.

Welcome! I still remember my first competitive game in 2002 and I've been hooked ever since, hope you have as much fun as I did!

I love the fact you are looking to build Themed Teams; the majority of my builds are Themed, even back before Keywords existed. At that time I built teams of figs all with the same Team Symbol.

When building a team, it is good to have multiple attackers, along with support figures.

I really like Black Panther on your Cosmic team, but other than T'Challa your other attackers lack significant move-and-attack powers. Black Panther by itself cannot dish-out significant damage and would soon be overwhelmed. If you have any other Cosmic pieces, I would replace Ego-Prime with almost any other figure, and lower T'Challa to his 150-pt line to allow more attackers onto your team.

The Scientist team as presented, however, has the potential to wreak more havoc. Regent is the key to your team, and Regent KO-ing 50-pt+ figures is the key to getting the most out of Regent.

Between Regent's own Perplex (can be used normally to gain +1 to stat) and Tony Stark you can bump Regent's damage to a 6, usually enough to one-shot a mid-point figure. If you can get Perplex from Alex Wilder, the 7-damage (or 12-attack value) will also help.

Use Poison Ivy, Iron Man and the Asylum Doctor to get adjacent to opposing figs to make it difficult for them to attack Regent. You can afford to lose all 3 of them to protect Regent as long as Regent can keep dishing out good damage.

I agree. Playing black panther is more hit and run. The scientist team looks a lot more fun too with Regents abilities!
