YOu know, I dumped mage knight 1-2 weeks before V 2.0 came out...
And I just put the last of my clix up on ebay...
Timing is everything.
I've had a good run - former judge, former venue manager, and made enought from trading and selling to "break even" on my collection." With the sale of my last clix, I actually made about $800 on this game personally in the long run.
Cheers, y'all!

In all reality this retirement stuff doesn't bother me any. I play 80% at home and 20% at tourny's. I have no problem being limited to what I can bring as long as it also limits what everyone else can bring. There are tons of characters I don't want to come back and most of them are the generic characters. In my opinion it was nice in the first couple of sets but I want new characters and updated characters with new powers, not have 4-5 slots taken up with generic characters that don't really play any importance in comics. The named generics can be made for those that like them. There's so many characters I would like to see redone and if retiring sets means that they could do that it is fine by me.
"Retirement" of figures in HC is silly, and the Universe Set is totaly unnecesary. We have these figures already, and Newbies, Timmys and walk-ins can trade (or even just be given) all the Dupes of the first series characters that we all have.
IC should have just continued to be made "as is".
There, having dealt with that, I wanted to voice my agreement with warden, when he said in an above post on this thread, when refering to the WK play guidlines thingy
QUOTE "Errors like this persist because hardly anyone reads this stuff or pays much attention to it. Venues will continue to do their own thing as they always have. Remember those long threads here about no-dupes? They don't happen any more because that's a settled issue in most places."
...and this is true. The "no-dupes-except-generics" argument - in which I was, ummm, heavily involved, was sorted out through player-and-venue common sense.
The same will happen with this. Unless a Judge WANTS to run a limited figure set tourney (and many do...) then the tourney will involve either any figs from one universe
(M / or DC/ or Indy) or all the figs from all of them.
The idea of, say, a Black Panther from IC NOT being game legal anymore, while the equivilant piece from Universe IS, would obviously be silly. If the piece (Panther, Firelord, whoever) is not included in the Universe release, then the secondary market value of the piece will go up, and, as most Judges (I assume) will continue to allow all pieces to be played, so will their collectability. The problem is that the "list" results in people believing, or playing as if, some pieces are "banned".
The realy SAD thing about the Universe release is that it gives us nothing new appart from the revamped Wolvie/Wasp etc - and will almost certainly sit on the shelves like a rock.
After all, if the only differance is the Universe icon on the base, then we don't need to buy the figures - and the newcomers can get the existing spares from us, while the venues / Judges continue to allow the IC figures to be played.
Universe is a silly marketing ploy - we need more expansions, not retreads.
Long may Judges define their tourney environments !!!
One more time, with feeling "NO DUPES EXCEPT GENERICS"
To be perfectly honest, my primary concern isn't not being able to use Constrictor in a Tournament, but pulling a Constrictor from a Ultimates booster.
Sticking old figures in new sets just increases the chances of pulling a duplicate from a Booster, making the secondary market look that much better.
That was my sour grapes part of the argument, now for the positive, I'm looking forward to my Universe version of Hobgoblin. That's right, HOBGOBLIN! "Fan-favorite" doesn't necissarily mean favorite clix. Hobgoblin is one of my favorite characters, and I was devastated when I learned what a useless piece he was in IC.

I hope so. If they are no longer tournament legal, maybe that means the price of Nightcrawler will drop and I can afford to get him. He's going for over $100 on ebay now and I can't justify that but I want the full X-Men roster so I can build better teams. I mean, I don't play in the tournaments so any figure being no longer tournament legal doesn't phase me and me playing that figure at all.
I think we will find that the relative value (and therefor cost) of the characters that DON'T make it into Universe will go UP in the Secondary market - after all, they will now be a smaller percentage of the World's available figure pool - and the majority of Judges etc will still allow their use...
...consequently, the price of the "left out figs" will go UP.
(Sorry, but there it is...)
However (drumroll) "FREE THE INFINITY CHALLANGE FIFTEEN !"
No figure should be banned, restricted, recycled, or "rotated out" - what do we think HC is - "Tragic the Gibbering ???"
Ahhh. The dilemma that is created when our hobby expectations clash with corporate expectations. Retired sets, restricted figures, updates that will restore balance to the Force; all these are euphamisms designed to perk our interest as comic/gaming fanatics and not to rectify any playing scenario. The real bottom line then? The dollar. Always the dollar. Retire sets and roll out new figs so people will fork over their greenbacks. Keep it fresh, keep it moving. In true sixties Marvel fashion it's up to us gamers and venues to keep it real and play the way we want to play.

Does this mean we'll no longer be able to use Clobberin' Time figs in tourneys? 'Cause I only just came up with a great use for one of its less-popular figs...

They won't be usable in "Restricted" tourneys (the most prevalent type) However, they will be usable in "Unrestricted" format. So look for those to play yr new secret waepon in
Of course any fig is usable in a private, casual game or self-sponsored tourney . . .
There's always been a retirement plan in place for HeroClix. Yeah, right -- like there was for Mage Knight.
Why not admit that you were just trying to find your footing with the first set, giving characters stats that would dwarf those of every subsequent release, and just ban the problem pieces (Firelord, etc.) instead of throwing out the baby with the bathwater, as it were?
It doesn't help matters that more and more powers are being added to the game, when it's obvious that some of them should've been in place from the start, and given to the characters to whom they were most applicable.
To my knowledge, not a single piece has thus far been disallowed from tournament play in Mage Knight, your company's flagship title. So don't punish HeroClix players for poor planning, foresight and initial game design on your part.

Although Firelord is probably the king of cheese, I don't think Infinity Challenge was overall dwarfing other sets by any stretch of the Imagination. Just look at Cap, Vulture, Spiderman. For the most part, the set definitely is conservative as far as receiving powers, compared to other sets, IMO. I saw the sets that followed definitely get more comfortable with passing out the power (Con Artist, Destiny). I do feel the rules are like umpires calls in baseball. They need to be made and not changed. The more they get changed, the more alienated the fans get with the game.
NO ! dont lobby your venue for unrestricted events. Lobby WizKids to lift their banns. I would preefer petition, but a financial message may need to be inflicted as well.
Please pardon the opening question, but I cannot resist... Are the lot of you rude or just plain inconsiderate? First after collecting over 500+ clixpoints from Lord only knows how many boxes...Oh we're not going to do that promotion after all, Sooooorry. You little stunt was and is not appreciated. Now after thousands of player collectors spent months, effort, and dollars finishing sets and squads of IC figures you're just tossing them out. As if Retiring and reissuing the IDENTICAL figs with repetitive dials weren't bad enough... You are reissuing Ones that aren"t even retired yet. C'mon some method to the madness please. Imagine a Brotherhood team without Magneto (the leader, for your design people) Oh well you STILL have no Baron Zemo (the face used to represent the Masters of Evil faction) yet. As for my self I will use only purchase FIRST issue figures. (As if you care) Reissuing... weak weak weak. Hundreds of characters, and decades of stories and you use the same sculpts again? Lazy? Tired? Comfortable? Complacent? NAH! Just too cheap for your own good. I'm sure that there enough fanboys to to keep your keesters squeeky clean for some time. If I have the wrong impression about this grand design tell me. and I will apologize and post it on every group that I can find.
While clarifying some terrain rules I was told by a judge (your judge to be precise) I asked about UUUUUUnIIIIIVERRRRRRRSE. "Dont expect any Marvel to be retired any time soon." That was in stinkig March.
Steve
PS thanks for Spidey, Hulk, Elektra, and Ben Afflek again. No really I was just thinking that we do not have nearly enough of these same figures. Honestly. I just cant get enough of the FAB FOUR. Truly I want them in every expansion. oh oh reissue the reissues. no even better A wohle set of nothing but the FAB FOUR. What is that? 24 Spidey, 24 hulks, 24 Daredevils, and 24 Elektras.. ooo yeah I'm waiting on thatone. Heres the good part Use the original sculpts and just stick som kind, any kind of dial will due.
