point taken and while the metagame may differ my reference was more to do with the individual pieces concerned rather than any tactics used. SAD is (was?) a metagame combo and worked particularly well in tandem with Jack and Julz (Forward Observer). we often see ideas about this or that piece and sometimes army ideas however my concept of meta is getting the best possible pieces together for a particular function be it at local, national or worldwide level.
it has been widely touted that the SAD army Marc Andre used was the best army in the world at that time and it certainly holds up to closer examination however we now have the Wolf Strike expansion as well as; Phantom War, RotS, House Davion and Champion Battleforce sets to throw into the mix. so which of these pieces fit into the metagame and at which level? :)
Actually I have always felt that the Europeans play a different style of game than the american hemisphere. Usually the canadian championship is a good barometer of the american game in preparation for us nationals. However, I've yet to really put a finger on what exactly makes the games different, besides that the europeans usually have additional restrictions on builds that aren't seen on this side... i.e. last year I believe there were faction purity requirements that weren't present here...

Don't forget the Asian players from the Philippines. :)

As far as I know, only the UK plays by faction restrictions for their Nationals. In Holland at my venue we take whatever the format is of the next big tournement and make that our standard. It doesnt matter if this is restricted or not. In South of Europe Spain , Portugal and Italy they tend to play an more aggresive play which i must say gives some creative armies i have seen. Like 4 shamashes that where intended to ram light mechs as it bypasses Evade and Decoy that was a pure metagame solutions that Solitaires hate.
I also belief in the future large tournements will keep tha AoD+ format and i think you make better armies if you focus on that format.
I have played 1 singapore or it was the phillipens player on the first Worlds I belief he came dead last. Iplayed some Japanese guys who play solid but with weird armies, assaults and no support so to say. Hard to say what style of pay exists in Asia for me, the Aussies play a very high level of play and probaly pick the best of both worlds on these boards.
I know MW is played in South America but have never seen or played vs any of em.
I honestly dont know if the game is payed in Russia or Africa, both are seriouslarge continents although I know there is a guy from South Africa who plays.
With Scrub now out, and everyone building armys around it.
I wonder, have we seen the last of Slayer in "tournament" builds?
It is a great alround mech, and its forgiving to play, but without the ability to self-prime when Scrub is on the table its a liability perhaps.
Is Poseidon also less playable because of it?
Will we perhaps see the return of MDFA mechs, alongside Scrub?
Enough questions, anyone here he thinks has the answer?
On a side note, with the Dutch nationals on Sunday july 1st;
Who wants to hazard a guess who plays what, and who will win?
Perhaps place a little bet or two... (participants can only bet on themselfs, to avoid "rigging" ;-) )
So far the contenders are:
Liam
Fionn
Patrick
Corlan
Imtar
Ian Pelgrim
Elite130
Brinxter
(i only listed the few who you might know/recognise)
Ofcourse i think i am going to win.
Elite130 will probably play Hammerfell.
Patrick will play some M FP army.
Liam will undoubtedly play BR pure (wich makes atleast two players take True Grit)
Fionn is a tough choice, i think he'll go for the CNC Marauder.
Corlan will build something silly...
Imtar will lose regardless of what he's playing ;-)
Ian will play something with Harpy (recruited to CJF) in it
And i... well probably SAD :-P (or will i?)

I will beat the #### out of your army as I always do in constructed.
I probaly will not play Hammerfell as i dont play assaults....... I either play something called Alpha or Slayer.
a truly weird idea you think i would play Hammerfell. It is a great piece I just dont like putting all my eggs in 1 basket. Then see it being nuked to small pieces.
Corlan might play Hammerfall he likes big mechs and has some BR love.
I doubt Ian will play a Harpy. He might play a Goshawk ;-p
My money is either on me or maybe Ian. I think he deserves to win it most now....

Ah, like you did last week then?
Anyways, thems be fightin' words, and i feel confident enough to beat you, even if you know what i'm playing.

I kind of expect/hope Ian to play something with Scrub, but his drop army is more likely to show up.
And uhm, no excuses from me this year, if i go down you can bet your behind on it being in a tough fight :)
Yes, and it is about time we got that little speedbump out of the way...
I feel confident enough about my army and myself to say that i have a good chance at the championship this sunday, even with most of the participants knowing my most likely army.
Its time i showed off my army building and player skillz for real.
Shows what you know you cannot be a consistent winner if dice where that big an influence.
HA-HA! Thats where you have me wrong ...I'm NOT a consistant winner !  J/K I know you have to have a good army set up for all contingenceys and to make sure the dice are not the only factor, and by the looks of it a good proof-reader when I'm trying to type also.
