Step 1 to joining the RPSC is knowing that our players write the stories themselves. We collaborate on crossovers and planning but at the end of the day, the players must at the very least turn story outlines into actual stories. We can easily work around different skill levels, time commitment, and how much you want to collaborate vs do your own thing....but we can't write each issue for you.
If building up a team, leveling up individual characters, fighting against villains, having the consequences of your matches carry forward and telling your team's story sounds like a good time, welcome aboard.
If building up a team, leveling up individual characters, fighting against whoever, having the consequences of your matches carry forward and competing with others is more your speed, I'd recommend the Heroclix Fantasy League or the Fantasy League Elite.
If you have a ton of ideas and writing skill and want to only use me as a keeper of continuity, great. If you've never written a story in your life and want me to plan arcs with you, that's also great.
Step 2 is choosing a team.
My previous post includes a list of the current teams (Metropolis is basically Superboy, Supergirl and friends) as well as some teams that are established in our continuity but don't have players right now. Those established teams have an easy jumping on point and some leftover story arc ideas but you can basically play whatever team you want as long as the characters are available. So who are you interested in playing?
What team is "HDC?" I feel like I should know that.
So are team recruitments limited to shared keywords, or can you make a team out of disparate members? Some of the teams I'm interested in occasionally hurt for members, like X-Club (Dr. Nemesis in particular).
As far as teams I'm interested in - I am a big fan of the Future Foundation, although I don't know its incarnation here. I'm also interested in Wakanda-centric characters and the Hulk Family. On the DC side, if Justice League hasn't been done yet but only just set up, I could be interested in that, depending on the membership, or if I can kill off Hal Jordan on page one if he's involved
I'm pretty solid at writing characters, and being involved in HRPS has helped me with plotting - telling a story around a clix game is plenty of grist for the mill.
So what I really need to do to make things jump onable again is
1) Write a quick summary of Marvel and DC continuity in the RPSC so far. Doom's invasion, the gang war, Avengers Defenders war, the big X-Men shakeup, etc. (If Mike or somebody did this for Marvel, it would help)
2) A suggested reading list for each universe. <10 issues I'm thinking that basically covers that summary.
3) Verify and re-list the current teams (WCAvengers, X-Factor, Sinister Six, Future Foundation, New Titans, Metropolis) and the teams that have setups and can start easily (Weapon X, X-Force, HDC, Justice League, Teen Titans). I think that's all the teams that have seen movement in the past year, plus whatever X-Team Tech wants to run. Not trying to kick players off books but I'm assuming anyone I haven't talked to in a year isn't interested in continuing.
4) Summarize the pitches for the other books.
Part of what's making it hard for me as editor is keeping everything in my head and writing this all out every time a new player shows up. I have "bibles" for each universe but they're about three years out of date.
I think I'll go with one we have been discussing in length. (Not sure if I should say it out loud just yet.) I keep thinking about it, and have even thought about limelight arcs for most of the starting cast.
Writing stuff out that's in my head is something I deal with too, so I understand.
Now that there's somewhat of a grouping, I'll try to work my way though the relevant books, and your recommendation from way back. I had gotten some from the units section.
I've started a first draft, since I've had that first scene in my head for a while. It'll be sent once I get to the conflict for the issue.
Will not remove until all the members of the New X-Men Squad are clixed. 7/7 + 3/4
Thanks so much for the reply, I was wanting to do the younger avengers using the young avengers/new runaways figures as well as original younger avengers figures. I totally don't mind coming up with ideas and writing I actually already have a few ideas. Thanks for letting me know how the process works!
I don't think we've used the Runaways or Young Avengers at all so they're pretty open.
Check out the last couple issues of West Coast Avengers. Their story arcs have been dealing with mutant/superhuman registration as a more civil Civil War. A young group of superheroes that isn't being looked over by Xavier is going to run into Fury's Initiative eventually.
I took a creative writing class recently, and it was one of the best classes ever. Writing stories is actually one of my favorite things now!
Response to step 2:
Would the Thunderbolts be off limits since they're heroes and villains?
The Thunderbolts would be on the table. If you want to use the original crew, you might check out the Under Siege issues from our two Avengers books as they have a slight bit of character history for those guys.
Cage hasn't been an Avenger and is currently working with the Heroes for Hire so he might not be a good fit. Hawkeye is part of the West Coast Avengers.
I don't think any of the other T-Bolts characters are taken and I'm pretty darn sure the Thunderbolts (as the Thunderbolts) haven't appeared in the RPSC at all.

Thanks, I'm gonna start reading up and get to work on some ideas.

The Human Defense Corps. In the RPSC, they're a cross between the Dark Avengers, Infinity Inc (52) and X-Com. Their roster was Rick Flag, Captain Atom, Major Force, King Shark, Deadshot, Catman, Killer Frost, Bane and genetic troopers.
We don't worry much about keywords but your team should generally be based around a comic team. Occasionally, we use substitute dials to represent included characters.
Future Foundation isn't available. That's my team.
Black Panther is available and has some history with the Avengers team. Klaw is part of the Fearsome Five and needed for Future Foundation but he and his team could show up in a Wakanda book. I don't think we've done much with the nation of Wakanda itself so that's pretty open.
Hulk was split into multiple selfs (Fixit, Professor, etc) and each traveled to an alternate dimension to hide the Infinity stones at the end of the Avengers/Defenders war. So he's not available right away but would be recruitible by a Defenders team. She-Hulk is part of the Future Foundation.
The Justice League had a pretty awesome history here. http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/tags.p...justice+league
The big thing is that Superman is dead. While he'll probably be brought back at some point, we're against cheap death and resurrection here so he's going to stay dead for quite some time. Barry Allen is also dead (slash transported into the future). Hal was called up to be a GL honor guard. Wonder Woman and Aquaman (who are dating) are more or less on vacation but can be called in. Same for Kyle and his fiancé. Green Arrow and Black Canary had a messy breakup and became reservists but one or both could be brought back. Wally Flash is on the JLI but it makes sense to call him up to the show. Power Girl is taking over as next best thing to Superman in Metropolis so would only be a guest star. All in all, the League has a lot of history but aside from Superman and Barry being unavailable, you've got a lot of flexibility for who you would want on the team.
Hmm. Looking at some of the old issues, I guess I didn't realize that the games would be played out online by post. I've never done that before, but how arduous is that?
It depends, officially you want an online dice roller to send your rolls to the other player(s).
If you trust each other, then you could probably just post the rolls. There's a online program that has tokens and a lot of maps that is used to have a visual representation.
It's mostly just making sure you try to post in a timely fashion. I think there may be a turn limit of 16. So, yeah.

I know I have already left this group, but I was wondering if it might be possible to rejoin. I know that I might have burned some people with the manner in which I left, and for that I'm sorry. I realize I didn't handle my burnout the best, but I feel like I'd like to give it another try. Especially as I'm finally about to get my own book. I can't help but really look forward to and miss the stories I was going to tell. Will you take me back? :.(

I only have 1 rule if it's not x-men I don't play it.

is it possible to do the matches offline and just post the match play by play as it happens?
Okay, i, for my part, will be trying to come up with a narrative to conclude the awful events of the last WCAvengers/X-Factor issue.... This will probably take me a while... because i've been really busy, have sort of lost continuity, and don't currently have convincing ideas for the storyline...
In the meantime, i'd encourage new and older players to get their teams on their fictional feet... ;-)
