Felt good to get an absolutely stupid joke out. I've been too serious lately.
You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to drfate98 again.
What a superlative song. It showcases the Michael Schenker style that's been influential in bands like Metallica and Dream Theater. High Flyer's solo has so much emotion and heart poured into it.
I want these clixed: Doc Savage, Fu Manchu, Tarzan, The Shadow, The Green Hornet & Kato, Conan, Solomon Kane, The Phantom, King Kong, Universal Monsters, Black Orchid, Manhunter (Paul Kirk), Xemnu the Titan, unclixed Kirby Fourth World characters, and Lilith, Daughter Of Dracula.
I love (I mean really love) Robin Trower’s Bridge of Sighs and For Earth Below. I even have some of Robin Trower and Jack Bruce’s collaboration much more recently. But this song is new to me. Sounds like blending King’s X, Robin Trower, and Tom Morello. Or something different. I will have to explore this time period a bit more.

2:14 there's a sweet little drum fill. I love that the guitar and vocals are played together, gives it a very ethereal feel.
This is just friggin’ fascinating. Trying to figure out how it is strung. The white strings appear somewhat similar to piano black key groupings (2,3) with only one green or red between each group. From what I read, the keys are tuned to a standard major key, but I can’t begin to wrap my head around that. I assume her right hand bends the keys to achieve sharps, flats, maybe whole steps or more. Any way, really fun to watch and hear.
Cool to see this ancient instrument also combined with (I assume) modern technology.
Love the beginning of Backwater with the fuzz pedal doing the dirty work, so sweet. Nice drum fill just before the vocals kick in. Another quick drum fill before the bridge. The bass is meaty sounding. Always loved this tune.
Red Mosquito, like Backwater, has a very Hendrixesque feel to the guitar parts. McCready sounds like he's also using some fuzz and maybe sustain as well. Ament's bass is bold and full and gets you in the throat. I had to look because I thought Matt was playing drums by this time, but it was Jack Irons. This, like many PJ songs, is really deep. Thanks for reminding me what a great tune this is.

Bill tells a story of meeting Eddie Van Halen and introducing himself as Robin Trower's drummer. Eddie immediately became derisive dismissing Robin as a Jimi Hendrix wannabe. Apparently, Eddie didn't care much for Hendrix either.
Robin Trower and Frank Marino get too much flak for having been influenced by Hendrix.

To me The Meat Puppets guitar sounds a little more throaty, distorted than the lead from Pearl Jam. But both are really nice. I only use an EVH 5150 overdrive through an Orange combo amp, so can’t begin to even understand how to get those tones. Especially the sound on Backwater. I also think that tone is amazing.

Hendrix influenced more people than Eddie, in my humble. True disciples like Trower, Marino, Stevie Ray, Uli Roth, Zakk Wylde, Kirk Hammet, etc. Not knocking Eddie. I love what he did for guitar, but it's assinine of him to put down Trower and Hendrix.
I looked up more Peter Murphy stuff and even his work in Bauhaus and I just can't get into it. I couldn't even enjoy the studio version of the song.
That was my nomination, and I missed this original post. I absolutely love this song. Thank you for sharing and thank you for being so enamored that you brought it back. This is what Rock Wars is about. Thanks bro.
