Hey, I'm curious about something (if anyone still watches this space). If I recall correctly, the idea of the RPSC was that the characters on your team gain experience from fights, and that experience allows you to unlock different versions of the character with higher point cost. Back in the day when there were just a few sets, all the different versions of a character were pretty easy to keep track of. But now that there are over two hundred sets, how did the people playing this campaign keep track of which pieces would become available when a character gained XP? Was it all just done the hard way, or is there some way to see for example all the versions of Wolverine that's more effective than just entering "Wolverine" in the unit search (since that might miss Weapon X, Logan, Patch, James Howlett, etc.)?
Also, while I'm asking random questions, does anyone feel like there would be value in a simple AI to control the opponent with (probably something along the lines of "Heroes of the Aturi Cluster," if anyone's heard of that), since Covid seems to have gutted online play, or do you all feel like Heroclix is something that's only fun when it's shared with another human being?
I had/have a DOC-file with the heroes on 'my' West Coast Avengers team. In it, I have a list of each iteration of the hero in question. (This DOC-file is now very out-of-date.)
I noted the figure name, set, and its point value (and had a mark as to whether I had 'unlocked' that particular figure yet).
Yes, with the large number of sets released by now, such a DOC-file updated would be very large and somewhat difficult to review. For example, Iron Man is/was a core member of my team -- and how many dozens of iterations of Iron Man have been made since we last played/posted an issue here? With other members of 'my' West Coast Avengers team, e.g. Sersi, it is easier, of course.
Regarding stupid viruses and online play, I am actually surprised that playing online did not become much more popular when brick-and-mortar stores had to stop hosting events. We have thousands of figures upstairs on multiple tables in our attic and would certainly enjoy playing more again (if I can make the time).... :-)
An AI would be cool to use as the opponent. I've been working on something similar, my nephew and I have been creating our own comic campaigns using characters we like. Since we live so far apart it's been fun telling stories with him and coming together every once in a while. We did a whole marvel vs dc story. Not sure if people here would be interested in anything like that
Would anyone be interested in reviving this? This is a super interesting concept, and I think if someone made new evolution trees for characters it could be super fun; Like, you'd start out with the weakest versions of your characters, usually the uncarded figures, and work your way up until modern age; It would be a really neat sense of power progression, plus give us a chance to bring out the super old figures.
I personally wouldn't mind playing the bad guys and goons like a kind of dungeon master for people.
it seems like we have a few interested players/writers!... cool!
Shall we do a complete re-boot and start over from zero?
I sorta miss writing stories.
It might be difficult (in progressing through a particular character's various iterations) to account for the power creep. (I often have the 189-point Veteran version of Iron Man from Xplosion in my head.)
My nephew and I have been doing a lot of role playing and story telling using more modern characters since it’s easier for him because it’s what he has, and when we added his friends it’s been easier to just adjust enemies rather than try to do veteran and rookie style and a level up idea. They are all 10-12 so doesn’t work for them haha. But I treated it like a DnD or pathfinder game where they each had a team and I would have a big bad or something they had to deal with. Enemies always go multi attack and Atleast triple target which always helped. Something like that may be more interesting and easier to do regardless of how many players you have.
