I don't think they would hire him in the first place if they don't expect Frank to kill. Frank would be to the Goverment, as Wolvie was to the New Avengers, their assassin

Even then, I think he'd do his own assignments. Let's not forget Frank once hunted Nick Fury down and killed him... tho later, they claimed it was an LMD, just like the one appearing now in the IM comic.

Didn't get to read that one. What was the reason for killing Nick Fury? Last time I saw them together was during the Mother Russia storyline and they weren't going at each other's throat

It goes back to the early 90's. I think the story line was called "Over the Edge". Basically, it ran thru several books. Like GR and Hulk even. The Punisher was hocked up on drugs, thanks in part to doc Sampson. something went wrong, and Frank was given the idea that Fury set up the whole deal of Frank's family being killed in the park that day. So, Frank escaped and went on a killing spree, trying to get to Fury, which, he did.
Few years later, in Cap America, Sharon Carter was running Shield, she found some evidence that Fury hadn't really died. She found him alive, hiding for some reason, I forget. That was the retcon

Retconned the death of Nick Fury?! Damn, everywhere I go, its retcon this and retcon that. I miss the days when the ultimate excuse was alternate universe and not retroactive continuity.

it's a pity really. They could've saved a lot of time if they left him dead. Now they have this CW going on and he's supposedly being held captive somewhere or another.... tho why's he in IM, I don't know. Then again, it could be another LMD. The man's got LMD's out the wazoo.

now that you mention it, I'm not sure if he's being held or if he's still on the run.

Ennis isn't writing the new storyline for Civil War, which is why I'm not very happy about it

Typically, Punisher in the 616 makes him look like a tool.

Which is why Ennis made that "Punisher Kills The Marvel Universe"

He was tired of The Punisher being everyone elses chew toy in their own comics

Nick is on the lamb, and has been since he steped away from SHIELD in Secret War.

In the MAX uni (it may be different canon) Fury told Frank that if he helped the brass get the serum (or whatever it was in Mother Russia) he would get Shield Back

I haven't read that since it came out, but I thought Fury was with SHIELD, when he approached Frank about rescuing the little girl?

Perhaps some foreshadowing to the events of Secret War?
