Like I keep saying, Pym is the best support character the Avengers ever had. Read the Avengers from the beginning and compare him to what Roy Thomas did to him. Since then, he has been treated like a cartoon villain, and yet characters like Hawkeye are worshipped.
So, how come you put the spoiler tag in the title when the spoiler IS the title? As a mail order reader, it really peeves me off to log in to HCR and find my comics for the week ruined by someone who couldn't be bothered to adhere to a little etiquette on the subject of spoilers...
*ARGH*
So now I have to ask moderating staff, is there any way to keep the comic book discussion threads from the front page aggregator? This sort of thing has happened more than it ought to on a site that isn't exclusively devoted to comics. If I go to Newsarama, I expect spoilage. If I go here, I expect clixkage.
Sorry, I'm calling shenanigans on your rage here. The subject line says Hank. That could be Hank Henshaw, Hank McCoy, Hank the Hallucination, or any other random comic character named Hank. It was vague.
But you clicked on the thread to reply to it, thus entering the realm of spoilers.
Meanwhile, good stories are actually still good if you're entertained by them while already knowing what is going to happen.
We need Sand. And Sandman. And even Sandy the Golden Boy.
This thread makes me think - if the Skrull secret invasion really was such a threat wouldn't all the replaced heroes be seen killed once they have been replaced. As it is now once the invasion (cash cow) is over everything can pretty much be returned to normal. I realise that this is really cynical but what did last years WWH actually achieve?
Desperately wanting M&M SR Storm. Anyone got a spare?

Yes, they would havebeen killed immediately. Secret Invasion will change nothing.
I was never a really big fan of Hank until I read "BEYOND!".
That story was awesome and it really fleshed his character out.
Its an entertaining read and I highly recommend it.
Dwayne Mcduffie at his finest (and not at his "bleh-est" like some of his current work).
Anyone else read "Beyond!"?

I have to say, honestly, that Pym is probably about the 3rd character that comes to mind when I see the name Hank in relation to comics. Hall and McCoy come to mind way before Pym, and depending on the day and what I've been reading others may edge him out too.
As has already been said, we didn't necessarily see Hank dead. We saw him at least knocked out, and we saw a Skrull take his place. We don't know anything about Hank's current whereabouts beyond that.
I don't understand why the Skrulls, who obviously hate humans, wouldn't just off everyone they've replaced, but I'm sure SOME reason will be supplied by Bendis & Co. Please let it not be lame.
Overall, I'm enjoying the story so far. But I enjoyed the first 3 or 4 issues of Civil War....
I've been back into D&D lately, check out my website:
You can always make bad characters good. It all depends on the writer. Remember, 10 years ago, Catman was a laughing stock, after Secret Six, he's a kick@## character.
Hank Pym has only become a bad character because of bad writers. As long as Marvel continues employing Bendis, we can't expect that to change.
I have no problem with the original Jim Shooter story in which Hank fell from grace. Several writers, including Byrne, Busiek, and Johns all showed his return from those dark days. All of those were fine stories, showing a character arc that was believable and interesting.
Austen and Bendis ruined the Avengers for me, so I haven't been reading them for some time.
Besides Ultimates, which cast Pym as not simply a character that hit Janet one time, but a repetitively cruel man, has there been other comics showing him abusing her? If so, I bet they were written by Austen or Bendis.
So, now we have a situation where at least 2 posters here have blown Pym off as nothing more than a serial abuser.
Somewhere around 35 years of Pym's history showed him being heroic, supporting, and loving, with one dark period in which he hit his wife once and then spent years making up for that. I bought into the redemption. It was well written and it jived with the heroic qualities that had been demonstrated for decades.
Now, with the "fine" work of Austen, Millar, and Bendis, we have a new generation of comic fans entering the Marvel Universe assuming that Pym is a serial abuser, which was never the case until they came onto the scene. Those writers evidently felt their stories would be better if there was a hero they could villify. I was a little forgiving about this with Millar in Ultimates because it was in an alternate universe that I didn't care much about. What I didn't realize is how popular that comic would become and how many people created their first (and only) impression of Pym through that story. As far as Austen and Bendis go, from what I've read, the character assassination isn't worth it for the abysmal quality of the stories they write.
If Hank Pym is dead, then Bendis has, once again, made the Marvel Universe a poorer place.
...now, if we can just get Professor Pyg confirmed.
I didnt read it but I dont think Pym is dead, in NA40 they said they were going to bring earths biggest guns to trial. They named Stark and Reed but I bet Pym is in their too.
Yes, and it is awesome. Pym, Alyosha Kravinoff, Gravity, Medusa, and more! What's not to love?!

616 Hank is not a serial abuser. I have read the entirety of volume 3 of Avengers, and all of the "New" and "Mighty" stuff since then, and he has not hit or beaten Jan at all during that time, and before then, it had only happened during the original story where he was Yellowjacket and mentally unbalanced (or what-have-you).
During Busiek's run, and again into Johns's, Hank and Jan were shown moving past that point in their relationship. He had made up for it. He proposed to her again. She turned him down, but never cited abuse as a reason. He wasn't a very good husband. He was too consumed with his work, whatever it was, and never paid her enough attention, and she didn't want to jump into a marriage like that again.
Then Austen took over and said that the reason she said no was because he hit her, and that Hawkeye hates Hank because he hit her, and she's never trusted him since. And then Bendis took over and did Disassembled, where Hank was worried about Jan and they got back together at the end because he was there when she woke up.
They weren't part of the New Avengers of course. The new story in MA#15 shows that they went to England, and Jan went out with friends one night and came home drunk and Hank got angry with her for coming home drunk and yelling at him, and she says to him that she could have kissed other guys but didn't. The morning after, he wakes up to find her gone, and the next time they see each other, he has been replaced by a Skrull.
So he definitely is NOT a serial abuser. He wasn't even presented as an abuser until Austen and Bendis took over. Everything before that showed him as a man who made a mistake and was working to get past it.
HeroClix needs more Goblin.
Acceptable in such forms as Green, Grey, Demo, Hob, Ultimate, and "Menace."
