Well I've barely played any of IV, but I'd have to say X is the favorite followed by VI and VII. VIII had a lot of potential, but Squall was just completely bleh, as were several of the other main characters.
I did not like V at all.
I've just started XII.

XII has been good so far (people criticize the gambit system but if you don't like it, you can easily not use it) but I wish anybody but Vaan had been the main character.

Ashe, Bashe or Bathier would have made better main characters imo.
I like VII what with the story, graphics, and all the cool looking summons it had at that time just blew me away. Actually VII and III (US, forgot the Japanese one...VI?) are pretty close. I just really liked the huge story of III and all the characters you can get! And I really liked the music too..despite it's midi-ishness of it.
I liked VIII, haven't played XII yet. Oh and another one I like a lot is FF Tactics.

The first Tactics was amazing until you got TG Cid. Then battles became increasingly fast and easy. Even not using Cid, only Wiegraf (who is still one of the most bad ### villains of all time imo) provided much of a challenge in the last half of the game. Still, it had a spectacular story and a cool combat engine.
Both FFTAdvance and DS were fun but seemed a bit childish and easy. And the law system is just frustrating.

Man, I really need to find it again so I can play it again for 100+ hours. I can't believe I don't know where it is.

I really enjoyed all the ones from SNES. Once PS and XBOX got involved the games really started to get crazy. I liked VII and X but at somepoint, I just had to give up. The games just plain take SOOOOOOOO long.
I'm out of the loop, the only FF game I played was Kingdom Hearts,... had fun but I have lil time down a days to play any long term games
Yeah this is true for me as well. As much as I'd like to reply it, I still have like 10 other games I haven't gotten around to playing. I'm still trying to finish Kingdom Hearts II and X-men Legends I! :O
