I will like a base with a "peg", maybe over the "half moon". (I don't want to say the other name here).
The Peg would be just like the Mage Knight bases that used to come for "riders" figures.
With a "peg" like that on every flying figure could be great to add an "invisible" long transparent stick to give to the figure the illusion of flying.
The transparents sticks could come with the figure or be sell separate too.
That actually looks pretty good. One of the problems with the "H" bases is that, when a dial is stuck, there's no good spot to grip it for that extra bit of force. One of the problems with the "cup" bases is that while you can get a good grip on it...you're gripping the sculpt on the dial, thus increasing the chance of breaking the figure.
Meanwhile, this design looks like you can get a good grip on the base for that extra bit of "oomph" without the risk of breaking the figure. I might get rid of the grooves, though, and go with fingerholds instead - shallow half-ovals that you could put your fingers in when twisting it. It would be less aesthetically pleasing, but possibly easier to grip and pull.
I'm in Providence! I've been out of the hobby, but I'm looking for Saturday gaming. Send me a PM if you know the down-low!
Huh! It looks fine to me, aethetically. I guess my only concern is that it still makes a "clicking" noise when you turn it. It looks kinda like a smooth turn from this view. If my "clicky-mans" don't click, then by gub, they're just mans.
Any base we make would need to clik. So yes it would clik
opinion to make the base pictured better, would be to add the ridges on the top for grip, but i see a lot of Carpal tunnel complaints that would follow this design,
in honesty i'd like to see H bases return but i dont have a problem with the "cup" bases, besides being scared to break the lighter, weaker figures, if you could possibly have the sculptors design more elaborate character stands (like spider-thor in HOT) instead of most characters standing on a plain black crescent, it might just help, either that or build sturdier figures and do those circle pads under each foot, that the older figures have i seem to like those but ya
Check this out - functionally the same as the proto-type pictures i posted. This base does have incredible "clik" action and is thick enough to grip both the top and bottom half. Even for those of us that are fat fingered.
The base is pictured on the right.
If you want to get an idea of how this turns - epoxy glue a half-dollar to an H base and see what you think.

I agree. I think that two little half moon shaped indents on the lower half of the "Cookie" base would work best. the grooves just seem... off.
If the base functions and isn't overly large compared to the previous models I for one will embrace a change if it leads to less stuck dials and broken figures.

Looks good. It's large enough to readily grab, and newer players would pretty quickly realize what it was for. Also, the ridges would help to keep one's grip.

That's the first thing I thought of when I saw the proposed base design. I've never had any difficulty with those myself (I have a whole set of Omens), and a bottom half as big as the Omens bases provides a nice, sturdy surface to grip.
if the cookie base does indeed eliminate or even reduce the need to grip the fig to turn the dial (as is the case with cup bases) then I can`t wait to see it implemented in production. Turning the dial on a cup-based fig like Mera is not fun. If I could turn the dial without having to apply a death grip to the sculpt I`d be rocking.

I have some of these up in my closet and I'll try to get some pics of them tonight or tomorrow so that anyone who hasn't seen them before can for reference.
That base was designed for MK Dungeons so that the heroes could 'upgrade' by inserting the appropriate dial bottom into the figure.
As Justin stated, they are a little big and not very aesthetic... but the idea is sound and as someone who has turned those dials hundreds of times - it works.
I like the prototype that's drawn up. It seems that the figures would be very easy to turn and even difficult/tight bases could be 'forced' without harming the figure on the dialtop. I'm not certain about the height of it (as comapred to the MK dungeons ones), but provided they could find the balance between being big enough to allow for enough grip and small enough to conform easily to existing collections - I'd say this is a winner.

ahhh okay, ya i like the thickness of layers there, the first picture made the layers look too thin, and those circle foot pad would be great for cup bases, but you'd have to make each figure have both feet down lol
I like the look of this prototype base. Looks about the same size (maybe a little more space on the top base for information to be printed). Definitely like the idea of having "ridges" for a more easily turnable dial as this will lead to less breakage of sculpts. The "ridges" also are a more obvious indicator of how to turn the figures base/dial (for the new players). Thanks for asking Justin!
