Honestly though, don't you guys think the game would be less selfish and more light-hearted if we counted faction wins as wins for dead players? It would make the game a lot less cut throat I would think.

It might. Maybe I'll try a game where I only announce which faction wins regardless of who's alive.

At a minimum someone should run a game like this where the winners are the winning faction regardless of when the died or if they died. At least that was we can gauge people's feelings after the game to tell if they liked it or not.

My point is that it doesn't matter how often you win. If you are happy with your play, had fun, and helped your team, the scoreboard is irrelevant.
As a replacement, I came into your Star Wars game as Luke Skywalker and destroyed the Death Star (via lynch), which lead to a Rebel (Mafia) win that night phase. Honestly, I can't imagine that I'll ever get a win that satisfying ever again.

Isn't selfish and cut-throat kind of the point of Mafia though?

That's a matter of perspective. Apparently some folks, like myself, SP, Quebs, and Stan, view more than just an individual surviving till the end of the game a win.

That's what rocks abuot mafia. Almost every player has a moment or two like this. As many know, one of mine was in The Princess Bride game. Another was in Peers' first mafia game as a skrull who culdn't win.

From the characters' perspective? More often than not if you're not town or if it's a reverse mafia. From a players' perspective, I almost always play for the team win no matter what risk it entails for me personally.

I can't say that I agree with this. I feel that team wins would encourage laziness rather than participation. Players shouldn't have the chance to coast to a win, especially after being eliminated due to silly stunts. From an official win/loss perspective, I would not go with team wins in mafia.
That having been stated, I see nothing wrong with creating your own win condition as a player. Doing so doesn't get you an official win, but it may make it more fun to play. There is value to moral victories.
Wins need to be by the book, however.

Yeah, I loved the endgame of K-ness Final Fantasy game. I may have denied my fellow Townies a win, but I made sure the Mafia didn't win either...
