That would be the main reason the answer's an obvious 'no'.
take care,

Its always been hard for artillery to do lots of damage against well deployed forces. The nerf just makes it worse.
Going to 600 pts would allow for more big bad mechs with hefty damage potential. Thus encouraging players to upscale the quality (not quantity) of thier forces.
But..
Everybody has missed the main question from WK's POV. Would a 600 pt standard army increase sales? Thats a resounding YES!
:) We play a lot of 600 point games here, and with 2-4 Mechs, it is a pretty fast paced game, lots of actual damage being done, etc... And you get to see a lot of the Assault class Mechs you might not otherwise... I think it plays out pretty well, but just my opinion...
My venue last week had a 1000pt mech only bash fest. 10 players showed up = 2 newbies, and 8 experienced regulars. There were 4 rounds, and guess what the games that dragged on to the last minute were the newbie games. Average number of mechs was about 5 per player fielded, and the games finished within 35-40 minutes after the BM started the round.

I dunno, I've played some big point games, and artillery just goes nuts there. "Well deployed" goes out the window once opposing forces get close to each other, especially when they start basing (and remember, artillery can fire into melee combat, easily the best ability in the world in a big point value game)...unless you intend to have all your fights be a single unit vs a single unit (hard in a big point game), the old artillery rules really dominate, and using big mechs again doesn't help (since artillery hits them as easily as anything else).

Ooh, good counter argument....I guess "no" isn't a sufficient response at all. I can't even counter the counter, "mo money" trumps anything else said in the boardroom.
We had an unrestricted last night and did 600pt/3 orders (granted with some other stuff the BM threw in for fun) and It worked out pretty well. It would take a little getting used to but I don't think it would be bad.
mlotoole0 is right about this kind of change leading to an upscaling of the quality (not quantity) of forces, which is a good thing in my opinion. If WK wanted to include this kind of a change in a general rules overhaul... I would support it.
