Swordsworn are not allied with the Republic. They declared for House Davion in one of the recent books (an excellent read, despite the name elduing me at the moment).

House Steiner is not allied with the Republic either. Far from it, unless I missed something in the latest book.

There is a big difference beween being allied and being neutral towards someone. All the major houses are officially neutral towards the Republic with the exception of House Liao.

Ok here is how i see this:

Spirit cats:

Have none agresion pact with dragon's fury ( there have been negotiations and the arbalest to Haag is a gift from kities)

At war with banson's raiders. The fact that spirit cats took 2 planets from banson one of each hapened to be his main base of operations speaks for itself.

Don't care about anyone else. It appears that the rest of spirit cat actions are either to aquire resourses nessesery for their survivor or to follow their visions .

Steel Wolfs

At war with jade falcon, republic, highlanders in that order. Considering the fact that wolf were willing to allie with republic and highlanders forces to take a bite out of falcons it is clear whom they hate most.

Wolfs have trade with sea foxes ( kal radricks mech as example)

Jade falcon:
At war with republic and wolfs.
No alliances that I know off.

Sea foxes:

Trade with everybody who gives them profit.
Appear to dislike falcons and willing to provide free info about them to republic

Banson raiders

He and all of his property belong to house Liao now due to the fact that he married into them and apparantly his wife owns him now :)

Banson appears to be a victim of spirit cat's fury :)

Republic

Just trying to survive and trys it best to seat out fighting wile it's other factions are killing each other. Ones it become clear that this tactic doesn't work so well they began using highlanders to do their fighting for them. Also it is important to note that many republic civilian and military leaders appear to be corrupt and have created alliances/ none agression pacts with republic enemys.

Dragons Fury:
None agresion pact with spirit cats.
It appears that fury is perectly willing to share their perfecture with the cats but doesn't like highlanders in there too much.

Swordsworn
At war with house Liao and in clear rebelion from republic. Using war with Liao as means to obtain support from local world leaders.

Highlanders:
Highlanders are republic's tool used to do the job republic to lasy to do itself. Tara doesn't seem to midn that either gladly following each new order from exarch

House Liao
At war with republic and swordsworn.
Owns banson raiders

Jade falcons:
At war with wolfs and republic.

Stormhammers:
not much fiction or campains with them yet.
Don't like republic much as they attacked Towne and all.

For the last time, there is no relationship between the Dragon's Fury and the Spirit Cats other than that both of their parent factions share the same space.

Dani Haag's Arbalest is a gift from Clan Nova Cat, not the Spirit Cats. The Spirit Cats are not even formally affiliated with Clan Nova Cat.

Okay okay, you caught me. I actually changed 'neutral' to 'allied' in my little blurb about the Swordsworn and the Republic. hehe, as in, Sandoval is working with the Republic to repell the Liao invasion right now. SS also is maintaining joint defense of Achernar with the Republic as well. I felt their business with the Republic deserved special attention.

House Steiner is the only house maintaining open trade relations with the Republic FIRST OF ALL, and (though I'm not finished with Flight of the Falcon...) they sent an operative to disrupt Kurita invasion plans against the Republic :p
House Steiner also hates the Stormhammers as much as the Republic does.

Random note * we also know Steiner is planning to invade the former Free Worlds League.

well the fact that the Falcons hate the Sea Foxes and think of them as traitors could give the Foxes a reason to hate the Falcons back...

i too would like to know how you all think that the Cats and Dragons are helping eachother... because i havent seen any evidence of this (then again... i havnt seen any evidence of them hating eachother either...)

i just now realized something... the Spirit Cats are barely ever mentioned... I dont think ive read anything talking about them in any books...

Which reminds me, it's also worth noting that the Oriente Protectorate has taken worlds from the Republic since House Liao invaded.

My 2 cents

None of the factions like each other.
They have temporary alliances to achieve a mutual objective.
Once that objective is reached they go back to what they to best : backstabbing one another.

Don't put too much stock in that. It still says the Steel Wolves are lead by Kal Raddick.

Also, the Stormhammers entry isn't quite accurate. The Stormhammers are Steiner wannabes. Steiner offers them no formal support.

But you are forgetting one thing.
In the BattleTech universe everyone haves an hidden agenda

The Wolves in the Stormhammers are former Lyran citizens. They hail from Clan-Wolf-In-Exile, a Warden splinter from Clan Wolf, which is Crusader in outlook.

They share none of the philosophies of the Steel Wolves, who want to conquer Terra - the very opposite of what the CWIE wants.

Dragons Fury and Spirit Cats are unlikely bedfellows. First, the Spirit Cats saw that their path required they split from the Combine. Second, even if they looked to the combine, the Fury are not what they want. Katana Tormark is a "Traditionalist" Kuritan. For "Traditionalist" read "Traitor", she shares the opinion of the Black Dragons, that the more liberal regime introduced by Theodore is wrong. They worked to assassinate Theodore, infiltrating the ISF. Katana's viewpoint was shared by the people who launched the ill-fated attack on Alshain (Ghost Bear Capital but formerly part of the Combine) that resulted in punitive invasion by the Ghost Bears that almost crippled the Kuritan economy and prevented the Kuritans from aiding Victor in the FedCom Civil War. They also tried to assassinate Prince Victor and force Omi Kurita to perform ritual suicide.

More importantly, it was people like Katana Tormark that tried to destroy the Nova Cats when they defected to the Inner Sphere. They agitated and made unsanctioned attacks against Nova Cat enclaves. No love lost there.

If you note, certain Uniques in DF state that they are in the DF because of the Combine connection but they do not share Tormark's views. Danni Haag is probably one of them, friendly to the Cats and not holding Tormark's extremist, xenophobic, hard-line views. In case someone takes offense at the last remark, the whole "Traditionalist" Kuritan thing revolves around xenophobia.

Liao and Bannsons is a marriage of inconvenience. Bannson wanted to be a noble and thought he had what he wanted from Daoshen. Unfortunately he gets it by marriage and association so keeps it only so long as he kow tows to the Chancellor. He may decide this arrangement is not to his liking and take over one of the Marik warring states, for example. And what if Danai Liao-Centrella does what so many of the Capellans wants and usurps Daoshen Liao. What then?

ah-hahah! Bannson couldn't take a warring marik state for himself, he can barely take a single planet ;-P If anything, it would be harder to combat any of the former Free Worlds League... they've been at war with themselves and anyone else for a while now, which as the Republic has been at peace.


Also, do some research on the current state of affairs in the Draconis Combine. It seems to me that they've resorted to a more traditionalist stance ala pre-Theodore. Anti-Nova Cat sentiment has soared, and clearly the DC is nearly ready to invade the Republic. They're back to being 'bad guys' along with Liao 8-D
