Actually, I find high damage pulse on Jade Falcon units offensive to the battletech storyline.
Jade Falcon always liked high damage ballistic weapons (AC-20s, etc) for the ability to hit hard and fast. Of course, that lead to a lot of defeats as their opponents cut their supply lines.
I guess one could argue that the Falcons learned their lesson and choose modest, un-interruptable firepower for more damaging ballistic firepower.
Of course, in this game, it seems that pulse weapons FAR outstrip any known ballistic weapons for damage. This is what happens when you just make units up, then try to wedge them into the battletech universe rather than create conversions that are consistent between universes.

Well, then, based on the unit stats we've seen to date, you shouldn't be offended much by the Jade Falcon units in Falcon's Prey. Only the Panther has pulse so far, and while it is a 4 click damage, the pulse is single-use, and doesn't stick around for very long.
As for energy doing more damage than ballistic: Maybe one lone energy weapon wouldn't do more, but in CBT, two clan PPCs did do more damage than one AC/20...
I'd also point out that there are more high-damage ballistic units in this game than high-damage energy units. I've also said before in this thread that the units with high-damage energy weapons tend to have some rather nasty drawbacks.
it is pretty f'ed up that the highlanders are getting a 5dmg pulse boat with 0-14" range.
Helllo, Swordsworn, damage dealing faction, hello, that's why they have such crappy heat. Totally makes Diane Jameson worthless.
It's cheaper, better ranges, better all over stats, better heat.....
All I can say is SSw better show up with a 10 damage unit here if the Highlanders, of all people, can pull a unit with damages like that.
Yes they needed some decent units, but it's extremely unfair to see them do damage better then swordsworn, who should be second to none (given how piss poor their mech defenses are, and the horrendous heat they pack, plus attack values which really aren't that great).
Originally posted by Blanner shouldn't my ol' 100 ton SC Marauder II have something like 5 or 6 pulse with the type of firepower he could bring to a fight over an 85 ton Templar who are both new mechs by design standards? Not really complaining just a question.
No. The Marauder II has less capacity for weapons. The Templar has 40 tons of Pod space. It is more than the Masakari. More than any OmniMech other than the Turkina and the Daishi, in fact.
The Marauder II also has longer range. 16" with Pulse on a 23 defense unit, even for just 4, is far more threatening than 7 out to 10" on a 20 defense unit.
Especially since the other attack on that Templar is also very short and unlike the Bannsons MadCat it lacks speed and jump jets to make up for its range deficiency. It is sloooow.
6" move and 16" range is far, far better than 6" move and 10" range.
Originally posted by Blanner yaeh, but the SC who are the enrgey consumers of the cosmos can't get anything over 4Pulse. they can get 5 energy withoutSE, but that seems to be about it even on there heaviest mechs. Heck the light mechs seem to have more firepower than our heavies.
Higher damage values would be a swordsworn thing. Just because you get a lot of energy doesn't mean you need to get the highest energy damage. :ermm:
