I think this is wizkids way of compensating, mechs have been considered weak and or outclassed by vehical / infantry peices that are significantly cheaper. For the most part, I think this is just them want to show off the awesome power that these mechs can bring in relative short order.
Other than that, the Mobilization part of dark age is fairly much over, no more garrison forces with multipurpose arrays of weaponary, these boys being put out are the cream of the crop killing machines with the lastest tech.
Well, it isn't really too strong, once you consider a few things:
1) Mechs are expensive. Having high damage with pulse makes them even more so.
2) The 'Mechs that have high damage with pulse all seem to have at least one of the following characteristics: short range, or (relatively) low defense. Diane Jameson's Ryoken II in Dark Age was actually the first high damage pulser, with a 5 damage pulse, but you had to be 8 inches. Cacey Duncan's Templar represents the ultimate heavy pulser with a 7 damage pulse, but that's only to 10 inches, and the pulse is single use. He also has only a 20 defense, which means that he's easily sniped at long range by units with a 10 or higher attack... and units with an 8 or 9 can try for the longer shot, since they'll be out of his range anyway. Really, that just leaves Dock Steward, who has a 5 click pulse out to 14 inches. His defense, however, is only 21. While that's better than Cacey's 20, it is still low enough to be easily threatened by quite a few units. Several units can even attack from outside Dock's range, including several VTOLs, which cost a fraction of the price that Dock does.
shouldn't my ol' 100 ton SC Marauder II have something like 5 or 6 pulse with the type of firepower he could bring to a fight over an 85 ton Templar who are both new mechs by design standards? Not really complaining just a question.
6 damage Streaks: Derek Hasbani, Seka Ward, Geof Bekker, K. Kitsman
And those are just the unique 'Mechs. There are also a few _non-unique_ units with 5-6 damage with AP or streaks as well. Oh, and a great deal of the units with 5-6 ballistic damage get a 14" range to go with it....
Yeah, no 7 damage unit yet... of course, there is only one unit in the entire game with a damage of 7 currently, so that isn't exactly a big deal.
Yes, those are all good examples but 5-6 ap is nothing to 5-10 or 6-12 with pulse even if the unit hase armor there is still a high damage, wich is fine, because highlanders got a 5 damage pulser
wich makes up for the kodiac. HAHA!
yaeh, but the SC who are the enrgey consumers of the cosmos can't get anything over 4Pulse. they can get 5 energy withoutSE, but that seems to be about it even on there heaviest mechs. Heck the light mechs seem to have more firepower than our heavies.
@Luckless1 - I was responding to "wouldent it be nice for a 5-7 damage armor piercer or streaks?" I gave several examples of units with 5-6 damage and armor piercing or streaks. If you wish to change the parameters of your request after the fact, there isn't much I can say.
Regarding your comment, "5-6 ap is nothing to 5-10 or 6-12 with pulse", I'm afraid I have to disagree, given that: a) the second hit on pulse is not guaranteed, b) ap damage won't ever be reduced, and can tear through decoy, c) pulse adds a heat, and AP doesn't.
