Ahh, thanks Hitman. I'm becoming a fan of your GA armies, now that I am learning more and more about it. Was the original idea having only Chargers? Or was it only Bounders? Or was it a combination or the two? I'm j/w. Thanks.
The 'original' GA (which I chuckle at now, but it still works, sometimes) had a striker, fell reaper, nightmare reaper, and Podo.
I don't guess we put an emphasis on either/or, really ... it was just one of those things. Not only do charge and bound provide you with the critical 'easy-break' ability, but they have a tendency to 'up-tempo' your game a bit by being able to move and attack with the same action, or move the double speed value, giving you the high mobility that is another virtue GAs seek out so much.
Thus, the heavier hitting chargers/bounders started working their way into the ranks rather quickly.
We were in a mindset there for awhile that it was necessary, or at least highly recommended, to carry at least 2 chargers, in order to deal with bone toss and the like. With 2 chargers around, you OWN bone toss. Everything they throw, you alternate smacking the #### out of it with your charging units, and thus he can't force you to push to deal with a leved skeleton or such.
We broke away from this a bit with Borg's GA 4.0, which only had one charger, but had the dual threat of Striker and Techun-- and as Barrel, Borg, Narcissus, and many others will testify, this is the strongest version to date, even though it is bereft of its second charging unit, and has no bounders at all to begin with.
You can still deal with bone-toss by breaking away and firing with one of the 3 ranged threats, and the priest lets you play alot more aggressively than you would otherwise.
IMO, the best way to deal with ML armies, is to keep the priest back a bit, and go straight down their throats with striker, techun, and the krugg.
They'll either panic and push the technos to throw some more stuff at you, or crumble under the weight of the assault. Expect casualties, of course, but either the priest will still be there to heal, or they have wasted precious actions dealing with him while you're pounding on his door with the big boys. Either way, you gain the advantage.
So anyway, I seem to have gotten a bit off subject here , but I hope that answers your question ... it's not really about emphasizing one or the other, but finding an awesome symmetry that works well on the battlefield.
Thanks a lot Hitman. I really like the idea of GA's now that I get it better. I am thinking of trying one sometime between me and my friends. I don't have to worry about bone toss though. Not any bone toss around here...no one around here plays the "popular" armies. It is funny, I've never seen a bone toss, deathstar, or any other archtype besides some AG cheese. Such a pure venue I play in. :) Oh, that army you posted of Borg's, pure genius.
