Yah, that was a good battle at interzone. But what's wrong with the point system? He still would have won any way, because he didn't lose. Maybe I just don't get it...But it was a great battle!
Congrats NK! That's the 2nd report of triplets so far. Anyone got Quadruplets? My event ran long and another event was changed to a different time. So I could only make the one event, gosh darnit. Now I'm jealous. But at least my giant stretch marks will heal faster than yours!
Why? Why did you (who are Warlords) run from event to event to get as many Gilgarsh's as you could? There were some in our area who did this, and I must confess, I would have had a hard time justifying letting them play, had they shown up at our venue. When we signed our Volunteer contract we promised to:
"conducting yourself in a professional and business-like manner and maintaining a positive attitude in all dealings with the public, venues, and other volunteers, including conducting all correspondence on web forums, emails and by phone in a professional and polite manner."
Explain to me how it helps our image that you are boasting of twins, triplets, and hoping someone got quadruplets?
I did not play in any events. I gave ideas and suggestions for army types that I would have run, I got and gave feedback for my players, and I tried to be sure that a good time was had by all.
If I am missing some obscure point here, please let me know, but I can't see that this behavior has done us any good at all. All I know is, by you being there to get another giant LE, someone else did not get one. You may claim that they had every chance to beat you to earn one, but why did you need more than one in the first place?
Just curious.
Just so that you do realize, I am NOT a warlord. And I want you to also think about this, warlords are players too. Most people become warlords so that they can ensure that events are run in their area, or to give a fellow warlord a chance to play. We dont go and run from event to event just to win a prize like Gilgarsh. Since I do know Altan as a person, I know that he goes to play and have a good time, he doesnt really care what the prize is. He would make a post like this even is he got 2 podos out of the events. He likes to laugh and have a good time playing. This post is just something to laugh about. I am sure that his second Gilgarsh will go to his son. (so is he going to have to clean the house for numerous months in order to get it James?)
Yeouwch! Pulling that stake out really hurt, DB. Despite your quote from the warlord Pledge of Allegiance, I saw nothing in there that stops us from playing in and winning as many tournaments as we like. I have gone weeks without getting to play in an event due to obligating myself to run them for the enjoyment of others. So I disagree with your opinion that any wrongdoing was committed.
As to the why, well, I'll tell you why. The level of competition went up a notch here. I wanted to face that higher level of competition. It's the same reason I spent $1200 to go to Origins. Was that wrong as well? If I can afford to go to GenCon as well, should I give my plane tickets and money to someone else to be, what...fair? The reason I got into this game is because I enjoy the competition, and it's still one of the reasons I contribute as much as I do to the game, to keep it strong. Or should I spend my time and money and leave all of the fun to others? For your information, I chose to play BPR despite it's obvious disadvantage. Why? Because of the challenge again. And in the final round I had to face a non-warlord who was playing a Gilgarsh he had already won in a previous tournament? Was he wrong as well? Where does it say that if you win, you must stop winning to be fair to others? Better tell that to Tiger Woods, the Yankees and the Bush Family, though how they ever won anything is beyond me. I sure as heck didn't vote for any of them. And, God forbid, what about my right to recoup some of the tons of money I have poured into this game!? A couple of hundred bucks for my extra Gilgarsh could possibly make a small dent in that. A very small one mind you. I work for a non-profit making half of what I'm worth helping to raise money for endangered species and environmental causes while raising a 14 year old boy all by myself who eats like two horses. And you think my trying to take a little time to do the things I enjoy and perhaps even make a few bucks to feed my kid is wrong? Well, buddy, I've got something right here that you can kiss. And it's lily white and been out of the sun for a long time. You do like marshmallow creme, don't you?
Nukekitty, my friend, always looking out for the little guy. Thanks for standing up for me. I was thinking about passing Gilgarsh the 2nd on to Allyn, but hadn't made up my mind yet. I wasn't going to mention that, but he's been too busy with some new video game to come here lately. So I think it'll remain a secret. But I may still keep it or sell it, especially since I just found out I need a new radiator, Allyn lost my good tennis raquet today, and the government just sent me a letter saying that it will most likely be another 90 days before they BEGIN to look into my refund check that I sent back in mid-February. That being the money that I was originally going to use to go to Origins. Life sucks. But MK been berry, berry good to me!
I still do not understand. It is not wrong to compete. It is not wrong to win. But the whole feeling I am getting here is "ha ha I got Gilgarsh and you didn't". I fail to see how that built up the image of Mage Knight and Warlords (if you are not a warlord, the question is still why did you need more than one?). If you feel that you've given too much time to the running of events, and not enough to the playing, sponser someone and pass the torch. I have been e-mailed by more than one warlord who has said "that's it. After this weekend, I'm not doing it anymore. It's just not worth it."
How does this affect the game as a whole? Is it going to encourage new players?
The whole aspect of this is the fact that it is a game. For those who own stores, it's a source of income. For those who play, it's a challenge, and a hobby, something to enjoy.
On a personal note, I was not trying to insult you, I was trying to see the validity of your viewpoint. If this is what you must sink to to explain your side, then I shall simply leave you to wallow in your unhappiness.
Sink to? What are you talking about man? I told you to kiss marshmallow creme. What the heck is wrong with marshmallow creme? I love marshmallow creme! I have marshmallow creme and vanilla wafers that I just bought at the store. And I will eventually kiss them myself. Every gosh darned one of them. If I was really upset in the least by your attack on me I wouldn't have ended with humor. Perhaps we need KuManchu. Ku always gets my humor. And I never said or even implied any hahas on anyone. I was very excited and created this thread to share my excitement with my friends. Nothing more. But you are entitled to your opinion, DB, but keep your gosh darned lips off of my marshmallow creme!
I noticed that several of the people on this thread are from Oregon. I am from Ashland and have been looking for people to play with and places where tournements are held. I will be in the portland area in mid-august and would love to hear about anything that may be going on then. I have never played in a tournement and would be very interested in where the venues are up there and how to enter. Also feel free to PM me if you are interested in having another player.
It is good to hear there are other people in my state who enjoy mage knight,
mat marr
Howdy Beaver Boy! Or would that be Duck Man? lol There are many venues running events in the Portland metro area. Go to the Mageknight website and try out their event search feature. You can search by state or zip code proximity for the best results. I actually run most of my events across the river in Vancouver at Amazing Stories. But I'll be running 1 or 2 events during a fun mini-GenCon in Gresham on the 11th of August if that coincides with your visit. Almost every venue I've visited has been above average. My three favorites are Amazing Stories, Interzone and Ancient Wonders, where you can visit the illustrious Baldurans I and II.
Thanks Altan! I will be in Portland on the 11th and will be sure and check out the activities in Gresham. Is there any need to pre-enter or should i just show up? Also i have two cousins that are 10 and 12 but are picking up the game rather well. Is there any requirement as to skill level?
I am also curoius what type of armies i should build for the event. How many points, specific factions etc.
Thanks again for your help and i hope to see you in August.
ARGHHH, how is everyone gettin so many Gilgarshes? I almost got one:( but i lost by about 100 points in the semifinals and i knew i could have won in the finals:(
I believe Calin, the head warlord at Interzone, has already posted a few of them. I haven't checked it out yet to see what details he has included. Feel free to email him or PM him for more details. I am running my Magic Items at 12:30 on the 11th. It is tricky and I would recommend it for intermediate to advanced players. I would also like to run the scenario I made up yesterday in the General Discussion forum titled "Pass the Buck". I have to check with Calin and my regular venue to see if I will have the time first. It is much simpler. There should be games for varying skill levels though, I just like to stretch my wings a bit now and then. Off to bed now. Got to get up at 6am to continue saving the world!
