Interesting direction with 2.0 figs. “Weak”, “Standard” and “Tough” have lost their meaning, if all figs are like this (stat numbers are first click only):
Weak: 6, Arrow, 8/10, 17, 3/3, r10, 61 8
Standard: 6, Sword, 11/10, 17, 4/3, r6, 71, 9
Tough: 6, Arrow, 8/8, 17, 3/2, r12, 81, 7
(Type): Movement, Attack Type, Melee/Range Attack, Defense, Melee/Range Damage, Range, Point Cost, Clicks of Life
Except for point cost, there isn’t a real progression from Weak to Tough. Different units for different tasks. Not a bad thing (rather like MW actually), just different.
edit - just noticed. 2 range attacks on the tough.
OK, sure it's lots of points, but I think Vithzerai is contrary to what I thought everyone (including WK) felt was the root of all evil in the current strategies....the uber-bounder. 24" effective range with bound. 14 Magic attack, invunerability, command, winged speed, and a deep dial. And to think that people have been complaining about Corpheus and AmDrac. The only saving grace is that it will represent 71% of a 300 point build total whereas the AD represented 53.5% of a 200 point build and Corpheus 64%. Therefore, if you are going to run this figure in a standard tourney you will either need to put in lots of low priced figures to go after the objectives, LOS blockers or a couple of protective chargers. You can sit back and shoot at anything that occupies an objective using Stormfire. Near the end of the game rush up and contest the objective.
If I think one of these things is going to be played I will definitely field one of the domains that slows things down or limits range.
I remained a bit surprised...here I thought WK wanted to downplay big bound. I will be interested to see how they introduce the new Conquest with this figure in mind.
Am I wrong but is the Solonavi, in essence, virtually untouchable?
Send him soaring and noone can touch him. He has ghostform so he cant be hit from range, and flight so he cant be based. Just take care of the other guy's flyers and you have an untouchable sniper who hovers and delivers death from above without fear of retaliation.
Man... start that Drac at soaring height and leave him there - effective 19 Defense and he can't be based by anything without soaring; so in most cases he'll be safe from surge, charge and all close combat. Nasty.
Yeah...apparently he is untouchable when soaring except for by other soarers at soaring level in base contact.
I agree, there will be Domains to slow him down by either limiting or eliminating range, or by having winds or something cancel soarers...something like that.
He is worth the points definately. I would WAY rather field him than basically any 1.0 fig.
Varatrix: Now you too can be cheeseballed like Kazar Nabar by the Solonavi!
Varatrix looks like the next uber fig to me. Maybe i am missing something about this fig but it seems almost too good. [Is he vulnerable to a bombardment attack perhaps...] At least this edition Wk might ban figs that they admit they were mistaken on.
I absolutly love the nons though. 2.0 really does have uses for all the figs.
hey you guys both of these figs are kinda useless in tourney play, if you have to let your opponent have his domain that is, stormgale would kinda screw both these guys and in friendly play your just gonna have to kill em dead.
NobleWarrior, one other counter against Vithzerai is to use figures with :mi: .
Varatrix is an awesome figure. Fortunately, it does not have toughness, so auto-damage is the key (I wonder if there will be any soaring figs with ram or venom?). MR would help to. Otherwise, you will have to take it out with close combat figures or using shockwave.
I really like what they did with the nons. Having different ranks with different abilities as opposed to having figures that were just weaker versions of the tough figure was an excellent idea. This helps make all ranks useful.
neither of these "uber-figs" will present a big problem in a tourney against good players, some Domains will ensure death, and their will be warriors to counter their abilities. why does everyone like to complain as soo as a powerful figure is seen??
anyone want to bet that neither of these figs will be in an army that wins Nationals or Worlds? I'll bet $500 right now
