That, my friends, is not a comforting thought. I'm not a big fan of figure (or card) recycling. I like the idea of WK doing it once in a while (ie Nexus), but if each base set is going to have the same general idea that vladswrath has put out, I dunno if I will be buying a whole lot of that set.
A base set is not meant to sell to those who are already in the game. A base set is meant to be an entry point for those new to the game. It would contain a nice mix of basic units and probably contain lots of support and basic warrior types from the expansions moving into retirement. The precedent in the Mage Knight line would be the Unlimited expansion back in 1.0, which was a reprint of Rebellion, with Figures from Lancers and Whirlwind added in. This is not to say Wizkids is opposed to selling to some existing players, which is why they will add something to appeal to those already in, such as new uniques. My point is, A set of reprints is not a "bad" thing nor is it a reason to quit playing. It is not Wizkids being "cheap" or "lazy". It's not for you if you have been playing since 2.0 base was released, It's for that new guy just getting started, who never had a chance to buy an Omens booster. They are really cutting back on the print runs, so in a couple of years if this game is still running you will sometimes be very happy to see a reprint.

WizKids did it with Unlimited. Everything but the Uniques were reprints from previoius sets.
That being said, I believe Kevin said something in one of his Q & A threads that indicated WizKids was leaning against this. I wouldn't say there won't be reprinted figures, but it look like they'll be the exception, not the rule.
My guess is it will reprint the low cost units like High elven warriors and shocktroopers. Maybe a few mid-point units but most mid to high-point units being brand new and of course new uniques. Maybe a couple new subfactions. Cavalry maybe but doubtful.
I can understand the logic in reprinting units for a base set. I think it would be better if only a few units were reprinted, like Magic: the Gathering does. That's just one man's opinion, however, and like I said, I can see the logic in reprinting. I just don't like it.
Ithink 2.0 should be allowed through out the game as it is the base set....and an entry point. Dark riders would get retired first if they indead do support retirement. I understand the need for the retirements though as the company needs profits to either rise or remain constant. As a player though, i HATE retirement. By using retirement, kids (like me before i got a job) who aren't so well off financially or maybe have a small allowance are pretty much cut out of the game due to retirement. By the time they have a half decent army the best figures this kid has gets retired so he has to continue purchasing but loses heart and stops purchasing. I disagree with retirementfor the reason above and because if (someone earlier stated this too) there are no seriously game changing rules why shouldn't we have access to the oldest units still legal in the game? Afterall we bought them and they (usually) aren't game breaking. I just thought I'd through that out there guys. I'm not choosing a side I just wanted to point somethings out for myself and the makers of mk and the community.
Well if and when the next set of retirements happens for MK, it will kill the sanctioned play here in Toledo. I will walk away from the game and what few players we still have will quit also. We have put way to much money into this game to keep having our pieces retired from sanctioned play. I honestly don't think that the game can't withstand a second exodus of players which will happen again. First the base set goes, then Dark Riders, then Sorcery. There is absoultley no good reason for set retirement going forward. They wiped the slate clean and they have a great set of mechanics in play now. Don't mess with it. If WK can't expand on what's out now without retirement they they deserve to loose players.
