In the latest info released by Wizkids, they say...
"Each of the 144 warriors is capable of wielding powerful relics, items and spell books. Every warrior has a slotted base, allowing it to take full advantage of everything Mage Knight has to offer!"
Wow. I'm particularly interested in the low-cost commons between 25-40 points that can wield my favorite items.
Also in the press release...
"Purchasing a single case (48 boosters) should provide a full set of game pieces."
If I'm not mistaken, if you buy one case, you are guaranteed the complete set of figures/cards from Nexus. Cool! :D
I hope not, I do know if they retire the base set too soon, they might even lose an old stalwart like me, also, some older players who might be returning who were put off by retirement won't come back if they see a second retirement...
Originally posted by Drakor13 Did anyone else catch the note about active sets? They're not retiring the base set! At least, that's what it looked like it said...
Nothing is retiring with Nexus. The next round of retirements are scheduled for the first set next year.
I always get laugh for some reason. Just imagining users on here like that groundhog seeing its shadow or some soldiers peeking over a foxhole. Yelling "NEW SET! RETIREMENT! DUCK AND COVER!" and then hopping in. It was just a rehashed press release. You still got a yearish, I'll actually guess more, with Kossak and Vith. Now I'm gonna go reread All Quiet on the Western Front and some WWII histories. Oh Yeah, I know some of ya'll have reason to be like that, its cool, I just wanted to get what I thought was a funny thought off my chest.
Thing is WK should maybe rethink the planned retirement. UNLESS 2.0 unbalances the game, or presents a huge barrier to entry, it should not be retired.
1.0 needed to be retired with the overhaul to the game. Unless the game is being totally overhauled again so 2.0 doesn't "work"with it (which would be a deathknell for MK) then 2.0 should not be retired, I just think it's going to cause the loss of more players, and some of the last true verterans.

You can't only retire sets when you "feel like" it. If set retirement is going to be a standard policy (and it needs to be) then Wizkids needs a standard retirement schedule. I still think everyone is really over-reacting to the retirement policy. 1.0 was eliminated specifically because the figs were not designed or point costed for the new mechanics of 2.0 . When the new base set comes, more than likely every non in the set will be a reprint, and only the uniques will be new. You aren't going to lose your entire collection to rotation like you did when 1.0 was rotated out. This is STANDARD procedure in just about every collectible card game out there. I know somebody out there plays something other than Mage Knight and can back me up on this...
the prime difference is...
other games are cheaper
$8.00 a booster is alot of money, especially when as prices rise, what your buying is getting less and less, now it's back to four figures and nothing else (not to mention all the sculpts are pre-exsistant, meaning new molds need not be manufactured), Starwars minis goes for 12-13 dollars a booster, and you get 7 figures, I don't imagine the manufacturing cost is that much different, plus they have to pay huge licence fees!
I'm not mad, nor by any means do I intend to run ppl off to WotC, I hate those guys, magic the gathering and Dungeons and dragons used to be my bread and butter, but now they are some huge conglomerate bent on the monopolization and total industrial control of entertaining us geeks, THAT pisses me off, cant event get back into D&D cause of what they did to that, freakin $120 just to get started. Er, sorry for beginning to rant, have a nice day.
I would disagree that other games are cheaper. Collectible games in general are relatively expensive. As for comparing it to Star Wars (and that game is certainly fun) 13 bucks for 7 figs is $1.85 a fig, hardly a massive discount compared to MK's $2.00 a fig. Add to this the fact that there are only 60 figs a set, and that $1.85 a fig you are spending is getting you lots of jawas and ewoks. :D . By the case, Nexus will cost about 360 bucks retail / $221 shipped form an evil online whole seller. This should get you a full set of 144 figs. Star Wars Minis go for $109 shipped from evil online wholeseller, about $160 retail. This is only going to get you 12 of the rare figs, untold piles of the same 8 figs, and well short of the full set. out of 60 scupts, 30 are rare. 2 are in the starter, so assuming a perfect draw (never happen) 2 cases would get you 24 rares, and still leave you 4 short. Add to this the fact that not all rares are equal rarity, and a set of this can be pretty pricey to achieve. Basically it is NOT cheaper than MK. Ccg Booster boxes go for about a hundred bucks a pop, 2 of those you are in ball park of MK case. My point is don't be fooled by extra figs and cards in the booster, they all give you pretty much the same for your money.
