There is such a thing as "Timley Payment" and "Industry Standards". If the other game pays people in 4-6 weeks, then this should as well, otherwise people will quit playing VS and move to the other game, as they will recieve thier prize money.
Don't blma ethe people who are mad about not recieving thier money. Be upset with UDE for not fullfulling the promise that they made, which is to provide prize money for a certian place finish in a PC event.
This is a very big problem as it undermines the whole PC process. Who the hell wants to spend the money (200+ for a plane ticket, 150+ for hotel, and food on top of that), the time (3-4 days to play in the event and god knows how many hours of testing) if you are not even going to get the prize your copeating for in some reasonable time frame? It WILL drive people away from the PC as it will not be cost effective for the top finishers to continue to travel and play.
Ok on the player side of things I'm sure you guys are used to the check writing process. I'm sure you think there is just some giant UDE check book that Scott Elliot whips out with his mighty pen to dole out currency.
In reality you are talking about a company issuing checks for several hundred thousand dollars. Also you are talking about several hundred checks. So I'm sure things like identitiy/address verification is playing a part(for your benefit I'm sure). Mass mailing is probably happening, so that they have a certain number of checks with valid addresses before the batch gets sent. And also authorization from the controling members of the company before the OP folks toss out a chunk of the budget to you worthy players.
For those of you that are sitting in your parents basement and haven't walked the hallowed halls of coporate America, or crawled your way thorugh the myre of coporate bureaucracy, I can understand your misconception of what it takes to get PC checks out
Then there is some comparison to WotC? Huh!? Not only did you win money for an event that you essentially got to participate in for free, you think you can complain because of some "idea" about "Industry Standards"? It baffles me that people think that the TCG/CCG "Industry" is so set in stone just because of WotC has done. If anything we should be rethinking everything they have done since they really only have one successful game with any kind of OP, and UDE is looking to ship out their third one in October. If anyone is setting up what could be considered the bench mark of a sucessful OP program its UDE. Of course even their program is constantly growing and evolving.
I'm not a tournament player, so I don't know much about the check mailing, but it would seem to me that it's in their best interests to wait as long as they can before mailing them out. That way they can sit on all that money and collect interest...
