I do wish they'd hurry up with the point cards. With that said, good sets filled with interesting cards are the only thing to get me to personally buy packs; I generally don't buy packs to capitalize on cheap gimmicks.
True ... however, the goal isn't to sell packs to people already buying packs ... but to sell more packs than they already are.
Make good sets filled with interesting cards to keep the players happy and ON TOP OF THAT, have a 'cheap gimmick'.
All the people buying packs with no INTENT on playing with those cards? They are paying INTO the 'pro circuit' without cashing out at all. Those are the bottom of the pyramid 'types' that are necessary to keep a money OP going.
And, once they buy some of it, they might even get interested in playing with those cards.
The goal isn't to get existing players to buy more.
The goal is to get MORE people buying the product.
How many of these point cards do people actually bother to enter? Like seriously. I have probably close to 400 and I sure as hell don't want to type in 400 codes just to trade in for some random thing. Even if they said you could redeem 24 codes for an EA of your choice (citing 24 since that's a box's worth), who has the patience to do that if the prize isn't something you absolutely can't live without?
They definately do need to update their prizes, but I also wouldn't mind a points for stuff trade at a venue. Like go to the UDE booth at gencon with 24 points to get your EA <insert card here>. And yes, I am lazy.
Random inserts....doubtful that it would get me to buy more. Not a huge comic follower. Maybe insert could be redeemable for a comic-based movie ticket or coupon off a comic-based DVD.
As for the point cards....I totally agree. Anything but wallpaper. Sleeves, tins, mats, etc. How about singles and packs? Each vs. card has a $ value...you make the point cards redeemable for singles. JJJ could be worth the fewest pts...all the way up the ladder to EOME or EA Mobelize. If you want to redeem your pts for AGL's or random rares to fill in a deck or sets...Those people would be very happy. If you want to try to save up for a huge rare...Those people would be happy. It would make the pts more tradable too. Just a thought.

i got a cramp-and-a-half filling out he first 40 codes... several hundred more for the win!
But a pointcard trade in would not happen, because some scrupilous person would enter the points then turn the cards into the venue for 'double' the value.
Now if the cards had a bar code, i could go to Kroger and scan them for white castle or something. That would be worth the time.
I think we basically have the insert cards in the form of the point cards. One UD updates the points store with prizes worth having EA cards, packs, playmats, deck tins, shirts, art, comics, etc then I would definately increase the number of packs I buy. Its similar to that of the PRO Circuit people tend to justify buying more cards when they feel that they can possibly recieve something worthwhile in return...
to clear something up wow didnt sell for the loot cards. it sold for the huge cash prize at worlds. most people who wanted loot cards went to ebay. there are a select few "rich nerds" who would go through a case or so for the loot cards.
now think about it what did ude do to save yugioh in its time of crisis? they printed most of the good cards as commons. so first thing they need to do is put enemy or mobilize as a common form. then they need to have a reason for people to play. i mean only having (accesible for the average person) 1 pc a year is kinda screwed up. killing pcqs and 10ks for city champs didnt really "help" the game. also i dont know if it was just the store i played at but giving eas over prizes is kinda stupid. most people play the game for prizes not collectibles. they also need to print better eas as prizes. give old judge eas, pcq eas, pc eas, 10k eas as prizes instead of crappy cards from the new set as eas. thats how to save the game
Quantity over Quality IMO. Break down the rest of the money and having 10k events. I would much rather be able to attend 10 10ks over 1 100kPC that I might not be able to attend. Or if 10ks isnt enough to encourage the "pros" to come out(however many are left) then bump them up to 4 25ks.

You know this how?
I'm pretty sure that a good portion of people who bought WoW have no aspirations to attend Nationals or Worlds... it would mean less Raid time.

I am pretty sure it did sell for the loot cards instead of the huge cash at worlds. Which would explain why the regional that I went to for WOW only had 22-24 people which for a regional is low considering for a CC that had no money for VS we had 15 and could have had more if others did not have to run the event and work.
You know what would be cool to buy with ude points? The decorations they have at the soon-to-be-defunct PCs. I wonder how many ude points it'd take to get Thing or Batman? :-D

Holy ####, that's a good idea. I would give the contents of Stu's jockstrap for the Arkham Asylum. I would put it in my backyard as a playhouse.
