Originally posted by BoyOfSteel Most game shops I know of want money. People want to play by offical rules. It's hard to get them to change things up for a night to play only for those that have been with the game from the start, when they can just as easy tell them that they need to play by the rules set forth already, then sit back and collect the money from people that have to buy packs and singles to keep up.
The official Golden, Silver, and Modern ages only apply to high-level tournaments.
Not all game shops have to run a tournament the same way.
So if a bunch of players (I'm thinking at least 8, but maybe my bunch is different), as Bortrea said, don't like switching ages, THAT game shop can run tournaments for its player base.
If your players want to play Silver, Modern, draft, whatever, then your players do it that way.

And here in lay the problem. I'll leave at that. We will just have to agree to disagree. But I am not discouraged just observing the trends locally and higher up the food chain. I am just one man's opinion.

This isn't your game, BoyOfSteel. This is UDE's game. They decide what they print, how they print it, and what kind of support they give their game, including a million-dollar pro circuit that encourages the kind of behavior you seem to hate. I and a lot of other people like the game the way it is. If UDE's market research is any good, we're the majority. If you want YOUR game, make a game where the comic book fans take precedence over the players. Good luck with it.

At the point, he wasn't discussing EomE, so as I said, I didn't mention the card.
If he DID mention EomE as the catalyst for players leaving the game, it'd be completely different. But he said that CASUAL players were discouraged because of Golden, Silver, and Modern. If they are discouraged because they can't play Golden when they want to, they need to understand that the distinction only matters at the highest level of tournaments.
But he's given up, so we can talk about EomE again.

Modern from here on out, and eventually Silver. it will become a Golden Age card, and by that point, almost all decks are going to be superfast rush, Superslow Stall, or Crazy Ass Combo, and likely any deck with out Enemy wont work very well (unless UDE prints something better [which i cant think of a way unless they drop it to a 2 cost PT and/or remove the differant team affiliation thing] or Ban/Restrict it)

It is our game. We are the ones that pay to play it. They decide what they print off of what the players want. IF players do not want a comic book realted game (which this is) then they dont play it. If they take away the game we paid to play, by making it YuGiOh 2.0, then we will walk. When people walk you lose your big money tounrments. Next you'll say Star Wars and Star Trek CCGs are not games realted to those movies or shows..but a card game that just adds the pictures for fun. And I did the math, between 4 people I just hang out with, we bought 18-26 boxes of each set. Makes us good custormers. So when UDE does the market research again, we can all pipe in.
Originally posted by kairos10 I think I'm beginning to see the problem then...if you don't try to fix things, nothing will get fixed.
I'm sorry, but do you have a bent on this subject or what. I don't belive you even read these messages all the way through. I am not leaving my players. I am leaving the discussion with you. I don't get it. You don't want to get it. And you just want to appear from your limited vantage point and view. Don't be judgemental when you cannot be in control of the facts or the players. I really don't believe you qualify as the end all to every issue or be in command of all wisdom.
I am only one of many people working on the problem. You still don't get it. It it is quite clear why.

Then why come in, complain about it, not listen to alternatives from someone who has been in the exact situation, and then just say "Oh well, I'm done."
If you want to reject help, good luck getting your players interested.
