I notice online that a lot of people talk about enemy like it is ruining the game. Personally I think its an amazing card and helps make cool things possible that just wouldn't be without it. my only complaint about it is the prices it goes for on ebay. What does everyone else think is this card good or bad for the game?
It is a strong card that lets many of the teams that were hamstrung by not having effective search become more potent. I am surprised we don't see Syndicate or Spiderfriends getting more play now because of it, but maybe at the PC we will. Teams that had strong characters normally had more limited forms of search, which kept them in check.
Doom could only search for Doom. But now you can gurantee to hit Sub Mariner or Robot Destroyer? The whole basis for teaming up with FF in Common Enemy was consistency, and that was mainly provided by Signal Flare.
How about Arkham? They really do have some strong drops there. Or the X-Men for that matter. Searching for that 7 drop Xavier every time, or deciding to go with the 7 drop Wolverine against a swarm, is impressive. Even after 2 full sets, EomE is their only option for direct tutoring in a single card.
But no, it isn't broken. It forces players to run more than one team, which is no real pain in the current Meta. But in Golden, this cards predominance makes Betrayal all the more valuable. As every deck starts migrating toward EomE, every other deck that can will work in 4 Betrayals.
And mono teams with reliable search can ingore that peril. This again means only decks with good internal search ability (Wild Ride, recursion from Straight To The Grave, Mtn Stronghold, at Signal, Etc...) will be able to stay on team and still search.
For now, EomE rules the roost. But in the next Golden era (whcih is lightyears away it seems....) expect Betrayal, and possibly new cards added that punish multiple team decks, to put it back in check.
How about a rare plot twist in Galactus called Claiming a Herald! Maybe it strips the target character of all affiliatons, and makes them a Herald of Galactus, and they can gain no other affiliations. That would be a nice counter move to creatively use a lot of legacy cards, and stunt some tricks certain decks play.
They shouldn't have printed it as rare. At least Savage Beatdown had fairly close alternatives, and wasn't ever a keystone to any deck, especially since Overload was banned.
Actually, a step down could be vicarious living. Not nearly as effective, but there are a few local players using it instead of EomE because they cannot afford the real thing.

Vicarious living is much too limited since many decks are happy with any character at a specific drop, and often EomE is there to make sure each drop is hit (i know it is also used to get specific characters for specific decks, but i'm saying in a straightforward deck). I run Vicarious Living in my Shadowpact deck since I often skip my 3 drop, so I can pitch a useless 3 drop later on to get Detective Chimp, but that's a pretty limited use.
As far as EomE ruining the game? I think it has made the game better. It is kind of like the dual lands in MtG. It allows people to run more than one "color" or affilliation, and opens up the possibilities, which is a great thing imo. I really hate that when I show up at hobby league, I play against the same decks over and over no matter who I play against. I understand that many of the teams are designed to work a certain way(s), but that limits the game as far as deck design is concerned. So being able to mesh 2 teams to do something unique is a great benefit and improves my enjoyment of the game.
Is this even a question? Of course it's good for the game. It's opened things up and given us players more options. It is expensive but once you get them hold on to them and don't trade them away for anything.
