As not a big Thor fan, I reluctantly include him on appropriate teams and throw around his straightforward (and usually dull) dials as a heavy beatstick. But this dial showcases what makes this character different with a neat power progression and a vain special power that shows off that arrogant attitude.
Plus, this sculpt has the 'stocky buff' build that Ronan has, showing a strong AND solid character. HoT couldn't do that, and Movie Thor doesn't look like that, but the Thor of modern books decidedly does, and that's what I want.
Can't wait to see Donald Blake, and to a lesser degree the other Thor.
I don't know, maybe it's because we JUST got, what, 3 different Thors in the Avengers Movie set, plus the FCBD Thor, not to mention the Fast Forces Thor.
And IMHO, the HoT Common Thor is the DEFINITIVE Thor, retirement coming up or not.
It IS discouraging to see the same figures redialed over and over, with ever so slight changes to their stats, powers, SPs.
Are you seeing much variety in those dials? Because I'm not.
(Attack) Mighty Mjolnir: When Thor makes a ranged combat attack, an opposing character he hits is knocked back equal to the damage taken (up to a maximum 3 squares) if not otherwise knocked back.

(Attack) The Big Three: When making an attack roll, Thor may roll 3 dice instead of 2 and then choose 1 die to ignore.
(Damage) Rage of a Wayward Son: When Thor begins the turn adjacent to an opposing character that's 75 points or more, at the beginning of your turn Thor makes a close combat attack as a free action if able and uses Battle Fury this turn.
(Special) The Mighty Avenger: Adjacent friendly characters with the Avengers keyword modify their attack values by +1 if not already modified by this effect.
(Attack) Call Forth the Storm: Thor can use Energy Explosion. When he does, Thor deals 1 additional damage to the targets of his attack.

You also forgot the Hulked out Thor, The 2 Thors in Marvel 10th Anniversary, + this one.
"Art Thou Too Craven To Fight?: Give Thor a free action if he has no action tokens and choose an opposing character within Thor's range and line of fire that is not adjacent to any other characters. During its next turn, that character must attack Thor or be given a move action."
So what happens if the character you choose has two action tokens and therefore can't be given an action? It doesn't give an alternative for not doing anything or some kind of penalty for not doing either. Just curious.
I really like the power a lot. If you choose a character tied up by someone else on your team that doesn't auto breakaway you can force them to try a break away roll.
Sandman!!!!!!!! he carries sandman to a fugure shoots em for a bit than taunt him he fails and takes 1 damage. do it again if he can't push and he takes 2 damage. rince and repete
Etc., etc., the sad thing about this whole thing is this list is endless yet the remake list is probably restricted to the top 10 in each universe (Marvel & DC). Just pathetic. Hope you enjoy the blatant wallet-gouging.
And yes, I haven't even started to touch on Hulk & Captain America in Chaos War AFTER having a SET & GRAVITY FEED of Captain America and Incredible Hulk?!?!

The Overpower card game tried its best not to repeat characters. How did that work out? The main characters were often the worst in the game (they came first), while minor characters were the top cards for their innovative designs and learning from experience.
Same with the Vs card game. Because they stuck to team themes, the premiere teams (like Brotherhood, Fantastic Four, X-Men, Spider-Man, Syndicate, Doom) all fought to overcome overly simplistic and basic tricks, while the fun 'stunt' decks were all lesser-knowns like Kree, Inhumans, SHIELD, and Exiles.
Star Wars CCG was an excellent game with nearly flawless rules and direction. But the big disappointment was that the main characters were few and far between. Darth Vader appears only 5 times in just over a dozen sets. The Millennium Falcon only 4 times. And because sets came out mostly in chronological order, the Death Star is one of the most boring places to base a deck out of (meaning making an Attack Run on it isn't even competitive).
There's a certain amount of remakes necessary solely to keep up with game design trends. And there's a certain amount included for marketability. It's fine for most players if Rhino cycles out of play both as a retired character and an outdated design. But if there's only three Thors in the modern age, and only 2 are playable, and 1 is from a set that's no longer on the shelves...
Necessary evil for long-term collectors like us. Just pick up the new variations you like and skip (or trade) the ones you don't.
Doesn't bring anything the Avengers movie Thors can't already bring.
Yep, thats the thing. I have no problem with seeing the same character in multiple set if they offer a different tactic or use. This just doesnt hit the spot for me. Maybe if I like the AE mechanic I would appreciate it more.

this is a thinking mans thor, his sp really opens a ton of avenues for offensive capabilities. i cant wait to see the questions that pop up in the rules forum.

Considering this is the Thor that took on Siege, The Serpent, and turned the battle around during the Secret Invasion (IE: Modern costume), he should be sporting something more.
But, its sad when the Avenger's Movie clix just has better values.
Yeah, he brings something somewhat different, but not on a big enough scale. At least the Wonder Man, Ms. Marvel, and Spider-Woman bring better options than most of their golden age counterparts.

You'd have to tie them up after you give thor the action, since they can't be adjacent to any character, but afterward, the Sandman idea sounds awesome!

For this price the attack values seem pretty low. I dont think at Thor's power level if he should ever sport a 8 attack. That is unless he is in the Odin Sleep.
