ok, so since I voted other, here goes the suggestion:
one of the following:
1)reduce damage to 3 and targets to one when using this ability
2)all other SAs are turned off for the turn that this ability is used.
reasoning:
there are 2 figures people complain about when bound is mentioned.
1) amazon draconum: suggestion 1 will stop the complaints about 5 damage with pierce, which is arguably more overpowering than the bound itself. suggestion 2 will eliminate pierce, making the damage dealt to figures with toughness/invul more bearable, much in the same fashion as suggestion 1.
2) corpheous: suggestion 1 stops him from being the destroyer of formations that people hate him for being by only allowing him one target to be f/led. suggestion 2 ends the same formation-busting supremacy by taking away the f/l part of his dial for that turn.
with both suggestions, the first-strike capability that the SA was designed to be is still in tact, it is the supremacy of the specific figures that is taken away.
Also, the reduction of these could indicate a slight drain of a figures abilities due to having already moved, or the disadvantage one would have from possibly being off-balance or not entirely prepared after JUST having jumped.
I think they're easier than halving the range or lowering the attack rating by anything.
overall, I think limiting to a max is better than reducing, mostly because there are several less powerful figures that are not overpowered and would suffer greatly in their usefulness by those types of changes. (think of any scorpems)
I agree that Bound figures (and Charge ones as well) should not have an easy breakaway. Also, since a Bound figure can essentially shoot 360 degrees, I would like to see this modification:
A figure may only target an opposing figure with a Bound attack if the opposing figure is within the shooter's firing arc at the beginning of the action.
This change will allow Bound to exist basically the way it is, but take away the big arc (which is really a Nimble effect anyway)...
I vote other. I think that the easy break needs to be fixed to start with. Too darn easy, even 3-4 to break would change it enough. I also think that having a max attack value would also solve it. Not just reduce it by so much, that would really hurt the small bounders, but reduce to 10 or 9 when you bound to take into account that they had to run and shoot right away and didnt have time to aim well.
My belief is bound should give the defender a +3 to their defence rating in addition to any other modifiers that the defender receives. This would apply only on a bound attack. If the fig with bound doesn't move then it would not apply.
I would suggest that the idea to remove the easy breakaway is the best idea. This re-values the mounted and flight figures with out damaging the intent of the specific SA. This would also hold true for charge. I picture a battlefield in the dark ages where armies would charge at each other. They were committed once the armies came into contact with each other, except for the mounted warriors that would be utilized to run through the enemy ranks.
Before you start assailing me with "What??" and "Cheap player!!", let me explain. Personally, I see the use of Big Bound as a challenge. It inspires me to create effective armies that counter Big Bound's advantages, while remaining useful against other armies.
Take my current strategy for instance. I use a large piece of hindering terrain, combined with Stealth figures, such as Khasmin Snipers, Mortis Draconum, and much of the old rebellion stuff, and Limited Invisibility, with Nightwitches and my Zombie Barron.
I agree wiht Dando, you can move and bound with one action but you do so at half of your range. I chose this as it like your skilled enough to ru nadn rush a shot off, but in doing so your takign proper aim so the projectile you firing might be nocked right so you get poor range from rushing....
I also think bound is fine as is, unlike charge it is not covered by new proficiecies so should be left as is.
Further more the new DT and surge more than balance it and
LI seriously hurt and will hurt bound
Before you further comment I may add that in the future care should be taken to avoid further figs like the Amazon Draconum
When Bound SA is used: Attack value is reduced by 2 (inaccuracy due to move-shoot). You may utilize formation ranged-combat attacks of 2-5 figures as long as each figure has the Bound SA.
The rule of three would probably make using 5 figures redundant? So 4 would be optimal. One bigger hitter with three supporting cast.
Bound is usually on relatively expensive figures. But if a player wants to put an army of all bounders out, he/she should be able to wield his army in formation...Come on you Cave Archers!! Work TO-GETHER!!
