What plans does WizKids have to extend its brands online in 2011?
We're aggressively moving into the online space and we're well into development on a new HeroClix Online platform that will allow players from around the world to play 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.#The game is currently in testing and will release in 2011.#The platform is targeted at players that are either (1) too busy with life (kids, jobs and family) to attend an in-store event, or (2) don't have a store within driving distance.
I'm reserving my opinion until it's actually released. If it's a streamlined version (a la Magic on XBL - no custom decks), then I probably won't bother.
I didn't go to Harvard or Yale but I can kick a man in the crotch as well as any other.

Here's what I posted, more or less, in the other thread on the topic:
I don't believe that an online HeroClix will hinder or hurt in-game sales or play any more than Magic online did for that game.
I do think this will be huge. I know I am looking forward to having the opportunity to play whenever, wherever I am (as I do travel some for work) without having to worry about bringing anything more than my laptop or having to learn house rules or what not.
I also think this will be a valuable resource for:
a) new players as I imagine that the Rules will be pretty solid as far as what you can and cannot do, and which powers work with which, etc...
b) players who want to improve their skillset by playing folk outside of their regular crew.
c) folk who don't have a local venue.
d) folk who want to playtest teams for large events (Worlds, Clixathon, regional events, etc....)
e) folk who want to play against specific players, but can't due to geography.
I know I am looking forward to getting my butt handed to me by the rest of the LPC.
I am very much for online HeroClix .

I retract my earlier statement about not bothering with the online version. For some reason it never occured to me that I would be able to play the rest of you guys with this...

Now if only there were a way to incorporate group labels or brands (i.e. LPC) into the online game.
Hmmmmm....
*makes mental note*

LPC-only tournaments would be awesome!
I wonder if there will be a trading component for figures?

Figures are the only part I am uneasy about. Will we have to purchase "boosters" or individual figures to play? I sink enough money into the game as it is, if I were to start up an online "collection", my wife might not be so understanding.

Bingo. I agree with everything you just said. I, for one, look forward to an online venue...much like I enjoy the online League I've been part of since forever.

My suggestion for WK would be to somehow tie online "booster" purchase with actual booster purchases, maybe with a code inserted into each booster that allows folks to redeem for online figs. I hope that made sense...

I'm pickin' up what you're layin' down, m'man. That would be pretty cool. I would assume that when you start up an account that you would get a "starter" pack of figs as well.

For the online version it is going to come down to a few factors honestly...cost (is it a subscription fee? Do I need to buy virtual boosters? Can I get special LE figures from buying real life boosters? The only issue I honestly see with it is sales to the people buying who don't have a venue/people to play at...not sure if they would still be interested in buying figures anymore if they can just play with them online...granted I guess you also need to factor in that fact that they are probably still buying it now just to collect...but also depending on the cost of online it might end up putting a dent in people's buying of physical clixs :-/
I don't play games where I have to keep paying for them. Heck, I RARELY ever pay full price for a game. If there is a subscription cost, I'm out. If you have to buy virtual boosters, again I'm out. I buy too many real boosters as it is. If its free or it is relatively cheap I'll think about it.
Catering to the lowest common denominator since Feb 2003.

I can handle a monthly fee, but I won't buy online boosters. Unless they're dirt cheap it will probably end up costing way more than $15 a month or so, and I won't buy everything I want in real life AND online.
