I want to chime in before this thread gets closed down too for being what it is: idiocy. Batman/Green Arrow's trait can't be outwitted. I don't know how many times people need to say this. I said in that other thread that HoT Enchantress' "Mastermind" could not be Outwitted because her special power says she can "use" it. Now the difference between her and say Venom's Trait that lets him use Leap/Climb is that Enchantress' special power can be Outwitted while the Trait cannot. If I have confused up to now think about this: why can't you outwit Enchantress' Mastermind without Outwitting Toughness too? It is the exact same principle.
Now, back to the issue at hand: BM/GA. The reason he was given Sharp Shooter as a Trait instead of printing it on the dial is because only 1 symbol can be printed on the dial (or at least to this point in the game only one symbol has ever been printed for any given stat). The game designers wanted it to act as if both symbols were on the dial, and for both to be outwittable. They had 2 real options: make up a new mechanic and hear everyone whine about it adding too much confusion to the game, or they could use an already existing mechanic with already existing language that would allow the dial to function exactly like the designers wanted it to.
Do the designers really have to add "btw, Sharpshooter can be outwitted" on the trait just so those who haven't caught on yet won't be confused. This is simple:
If a figure has a power/ability, then it can be outwitted.
If some mechanic says the figure has the power/ability, then he has the power.
If a figure can use a power, it doesn't have it, so the power/ability can't be outwitted.
They could institute this rule...by all means, they SHOULD! Wouldn't change anything though, because this is the internets, and you can't get anybody to agree on anything on the internets.
Yes you can!

I am in awe of the cool and awesome people here on HCR!
there should be a way for the players' wishes to be represented. i just read all the 'trait' threads, (use vs. posses) and i think this is petty and infuriating. if enough players think a ruling is stupid, we should be able to overturn it. we're buying these heroclix, we're paying the designers' paychecks. if everyone thinks a rule sucks, then pay attention to us.
Rules by committee... not a fan. The ruling in question however has got to be one of the worst ones I've seen.
There are 542,000 children in foster care. Talk to your local foster and adoptive agency. You could change a life.

Oh i think there's far worse. The trait thing just is what it is: a handful of people miffed that they don't understand the rules, and refuse to listen to the logic behind rulings.
When it comes to Heroclix, you do have some Rights.
You have the Right to buy the pieces and do whatever you want with them, in your friendly home games.
You have the Right to not buy them anymore.
You have the Priviledge to voice your opinion here, as long as you're respectful of those who disagree with you.
For the record, I agree with you. It's a bad ruling. Maybe not because it's technically not right, but because the goal for now seems to be simplifying the rules, as this is about as far from simple as it gets.
Yeah well, nothing like completely overthinking something and making the very easy very hard.
I aggree with you karl. traits can't be countered or outwited. it even has a shiny white star in front of it. to let you know here comes a trait. now what else needs to be said. if you stop breathing you die. if you stop running you're walking. even if you're walking fast you're still walking.
I like how someone tagged the thread "idiodic rant" rather than "idiotic rant."
Most of them are funny. I enjoy having fun with the tags myself. This VGA thing is a bit out of hand though. I've noticed it in a few threads that he hasn't even participated in. I think I know why too.
I love how, before I left for work today, it was one simple topic being discussed and there was less than a page on that thread. Now, it has spawned constant complaining about a rule that has been in affect since it was TOPPS/ WK.
Use v. Posses could not be any clearer and the fact that the one thread had ALL the deputied AND the RA chiming in to clarify and back the ruling up means something. They gave, in detail, why one thing could and the other couldn't and people are still having a problem with it.
If a trait grants the "use" of the power/ ability- no outwitting
If the trait gives the power/ ability (possession or possesses) then the power can be outwitted. The TRAIT is NOT being outwitted, the power or ability is
