You're just telling me wizkids is making more of the same crap ?
Not surprised.
And not interested.
Of course that IS the right solution. I agree.
I'm still convinced that "long-term control" of an opponent's figure is a bad thing for the game though. But wizkids has made alot of moves that i consider bad for the game lately. Time will tell if i'm right or wrong about the "for the game" (in general) part but it sure has made me quit.
There are quite a large chunk of figures from the last two years that need to be banned in order for me to enjoy the game now. It wasn't the case before. So i guess i only have the option to play casually under home rules now... Not that i miss the tournament scene and the horrible meta-play too much, don't worry.
So quit already... For the love of god & game ban yourself. Stop playing, stop whining, stop crying. Tools need not reply.
There's an old rule I like to follow, never lend something out to someone you can't stand to be parted with.
If you don't want to RISK breaking your pieces, don't play with them in open venues. Or commission someone to make a tiny clear plastic protector box for your clix to sit in. Otherwise, I don't see this as a HUGE deal. Played M:TG for years, there are tons of cards that trade or allow you to take your opponent's cards from them. And of course, at the end of the day.. it's a tiny plastic toy, easily repaired by glue.
Though I might be onto something with the clear plastic protector box, kinda like the Pope has.

Maybe something like those little plastic eggs that the gumball machine kind of toys come in?
I now really want to have Spider-Man riding around the map in a popemobile.

An interesting topic, if one that is old hat to some of us. I play a number of fragile mods that represent significant time and effort. Clumsy handling, even by respectful and well-intentioned persons, has cost me hours of labor spent on repairs. Accordingly, I am reluctant to blindly turn over physical custody of such a piece... and it has never become an issue. Rarely have I met a player that is so utterly lacking in the social graces that they would not respect a polite request (such as allowing me to handle my own figures on their behalf). That said, if such a request was rebuffed I would gladly accept a DQ if the alternative was placing valued property into a situation with which I was uncomfortable.
We all have some threshold of acceptable risk for our property. I draw the line at my mods, but allow others to handle my most valuable standard pieces. Others may draw the line at figures costing substantial lucre. Still others may draw the line at allowing sticky-fingered children to handle their toys. The line may look a bit silly, but respecting it is no more cumbersome than respecting their personal space. Outside of the possibility of someone trying to force someone into a disqualification, which frankly I consider to be a fringe case in which I would DQ both, I have difficulty believing this is actually an issue.
Incidentally... this is part of the reason why I've recently turned all of my Mods into Switch-clix. Play with the game piece all you like. The sculpt can remain with me if I feel the need.

Normally, I'm all about mods. However, if that is your stance, you should have a non-modded version of any figure you you'd be playing. Swapping figures or cards isn't anything that is uncommon across hobbies. I understand the man-hours you put into your mods. I don't understand how you think you can skirt the rule of having the actual figure on the dial.
Admittedly, we are loose to the point of not following it at our venue, but that was before there was a Copycat figure released. Then again, it isn't every single event where somebody is even playing a mod. Still, with Mind Control, you take control of a figure for one action - are all these people placing the MC'd Charge or Running Shot / Move and Attack characters for the controller?

Spider-Pope, Spider-Pope, does whatever a Spider-Pope does.
Heals the lame, tends the sick, maybe even absolves real quick.
Look out! Here comes the Spider-Pope. There goes the Spider-Pope!

Tired of having your precious Heroclix man-handled by that smelly ogre at your local venue? Are you worried that some grime will depreciate the value by .00000001 of your Icons convention exclusive? Is air and it's effects on your toy a big concern for you?
No longer will we be subjected to the heavy-handed oafs, ie everyone BUT us, at our play locations. No, we shall no longer be held down by the restrictions of reality.. the Pope-clix protector is here folks, to save the day!! Preorder yours now, quantity limited, at: whatintheactualf***.com

Eh, some people ONLY get to play in tournaments. And I think it's a bit ridiculous in a game Wizkids chose to create a rarity scheme with, that people shouldn't be able to play their "rarer" figures without the fear of something being lost, broken or stolen.
People want to play their zombies, maybe Wizkids should knock off making them chase figures every gosh darned time.....
Again, I'm cool with lending figures and letting other people touch and use them, but I understand and am sympathetic to people who can't due to previous issues, or maybe even a compulsive disorder they may have.
I also think responsibility falls on both parties in a tournament.
If YOU want to play Copycat to screw your opponent, cool, but understand that while that figure is in your possession YOU are responsible for whatever happens to it. No excuses.
I'm going to hit him really, really hard with a big green boxing glove............ I'm kidding. - Hal Jordan
If a player refuses to give up his figure, what happens?
DQ
I understand the thing about the Thief, but he should have been banned in the first place.
If your toys are too personal to be shared, than perhaps you should stick to playing them at home.
"A Jester unemployed is nobody's fool." - The Court Jester "And so he says, I don't like the cut of your jib, and I go, I says it's the only jib I got, baby!

1) I'm not fond of the rarity system, but both the rarity system and the ability to gain control of an opposing game element are far from unique to Wizkids.
2) There are reasons to play Copycat other than "to screw your opponent."

A mostly valid point. I have never played a mod in a situation where I thought it likely that I would be challenged to use the original sculpt. To do so would be the height of foolishness as I am granting my opponent an opportunity clearly spelled out in the rules (albeit in a poorly understood and inconsistently executed passage) to have me disqualified. And were I to do so... that outcome would be all on me. There is no such explicit rule regarding the handling of other's personal property however. It may seem like common sense but it has not been spelled out... and in the absence of a formal rule (or a ruling at least by the Judge), we fall back solely on good manners. Which is, I suppose, why this topic came to these forums, where we take the time to answer many a question that can be reduced to "Why are you playing games with people you can't get aong with?"
