I haven't gotten to play my Black Adam yet, but it does strike me that they either should have given him Indomitable, leading HSS or full-Speed Charge with no double power action aspect. Giving him full-Speed Charge with no restriction on the Super Strength (but keeping the restriction on Carry) alone would have gone a vast way toward making him work more naturally.
I eventually want to use him on a 1000 pt Injustice Society or Society team, but the temptation to put Repulsor Shield (a little extra protection for someone who's magically empowered), Shellhead (if he has to take pushing damage, at least this could help a little) and maybe even Fortitude (he's so open to Outwit - 9 out of his 11 clicks - for me to feel really comfortable) on him may be strong, but I'll try to curb the impulse and concentrate on using the team's dynamics.
The All-Star Superman has that "I'm so powerful I'm boring you already, aren't I?" Silver Age feel that was part of why I came out of the 1960s a Marvel fan rather than one for DC. I'm not saying the dial's incorrect for him, but it's not one I enjoyed playing against nor am I feeling a strong desire to run him.
If I knew the opposing team was going to have one of these Superman on it, I'd likely give into the the Feating impulses mentioned above on BA.
I think that's your Superman bias showing. I didn't say I would rather play Superman at the same point level because I think he's more competitive (although I do), but because just the push protection alone makes him more 'playable'. As far as him really being All-Star Superman, well...I guess if you compare him to everything else in the Superman set that is so, but to me he's statistically 'regular Superman'.
Black Adam isn't a bad piece. I actually had Fortitude (which my buddy complained about) Auto-Regen and Shellhead on him. I went with Fortitude partially to be a dink about his Outwit (I do that sometimes), but also because normally the brick gets focused on and WILL take damage when you don't want them to be, and he seems particularly vulnerable off his absurdity SP defense clicks.
As for Repulsion, I knew I'd seen it but had to hit imdb to be reminded of the specifics. It's one of those films (this one was by Roman Polanski) that probably would be better to stumble across than sit down with because of specific recommendations.
Can you name one scary mummy besides Imhotep? Even though there are thousands of mummies in the world, there is really one monster mummy. He's more like Frankenstein or the Creature from the Black Lagoon. Werewolves are like vampires or zombies. They are generic monsters and can actually make more of themselves
Every Lovecraft story ever with a mummy was terrifying. "Under the Pyramids" is not a good story by any reckoning (except that Harry Houdini is the protagonist) but the mummies in that are SCARY.
And the fact that there aren't that many good mummy movies is a point that I've been making for literally like a year. There aren't good mummy movies because mummies are underused, not because they're unusable. If a fiftieth of the zombie movies that get made were mummy movies, you would change your mind.

Having played approximately as much Horroclix as you did, I heartily disagree. I loved Horroclix, but it had the troubles.

Oh yeah? Interesting. In my experience his inability to push (or he loses his crazy defense power) makes him very awkward to use. If he is massively feated up I guess he could do well, but then again that's true of most bricks of reasonable size.
Which point value did you use him at?

So I played with and against 300 point Black Adam last night...with at 1000 pts and against at 800. We both had a couple feats on him, but they never factored in.
What I feel about Black Adam right now is the usual problem with bricks with no push protection - they are too slow to get into things. If the opposing player works quickly to wittle away at his support, or counters his support's powers and his Outwit you can control what he's doing more or less.
The game I played against him is the only game he took any damage, and the total damage he took was 3 clicks. However, he KO'd 53 points against me. In the game where I played him, he just wrecked a couple of guys and gals and KO'd Norman Osborn...and that was because my opponent refused to Mastermind.
All in all, he's not bad, but I think i will enjoy playing 300pt Superman better overall, and I don't feel like my Crisis Black Adam is obsolete.
It's all there for yah, cc. I know how quickly these threads go, so it's easy to get lost in the sauce.

Oh, okay. I missed that.
I'd be interested to hear more details (or, honestly, to have seen the games), but that's entirely different from my experiences with him. Interesting.

I'm sure I'll end up playing him again, but it might be for another month. I got a backlog of stuff to play that's getting longer seemingly by the week what with all the product out and coming out soon.
I think that you could argue Psycho along similar lines, but I think that the intimacy of the story precludes it from being what I consider to be "horror." For me, the best horror presents situations that make you think "Holy HELL. I'm one flat tire/one wrong turn/one block away from that happening to me."
So, in saying "For me" you're saying that horror is subjective to each person?
I mean, I dunno. I've watched Svengoolie since I was a kid. But when I got older, the kids that I watched Sven with were all into Fangoria and the John Carpenter The Thing and stuff like that and that wasn't for me. I liked my broadcast TV "horror" just fine.
So, since then, I haven't typified myself as a "horror" film guy. Therefore I feel like the Fangoria people could/should tell me what the definition of horror would be.
I definitely don't have the patience (especially on this computer) to slog through a slideshow-style presentation. It's unfortunate, as I'd like to take it in in more of the at-a-glance perspective of a standard list.
These lists tend to be not just subjective but sometimes bizarre, too (I'm having much the same reaction to #4, as there were more comedic than scare elements in BRIDE.)
So much depends on when and where one saw at least some of these.
I suppose the utility of these lists is to start conversations and, these days, give people suggestions for their Netflix queue.
It seems we have a good consensus among Ogres on the fright-fu of Streisand, though.
I'd say a lot of those lists take into consideration things that are missed by people today.
Nosferatu was groundbreaking for its time and we have it to thank for influence on many of our favorites and the genre in general, but it probably comes off as a snooze fest for the rest of us now.
I wonder if Bride was the first "sequel" and that's why it made the list.
