Wholeheartedly agree that Guardians knocked it out of the park. In terms of my personal best Marvel movies, I think that the list might look something like this:
1. The Avengers
2. Spider-Man 2
3. Guardians of the Galaxy
4. X-Men 2
5. Iron Man 1
6. Captain America: TWS
7. Thor: TDW
8. X-Men: DOFP
9. X-Men
10. The Incredible Hulk
And yes, I bought the Awesome Mix Vol. 1 soundtrack off iTunes pretty much after I got home from watching Guardians.
(Edit: Why would Spider-Man not count as a Marvel movie? Because it's not set in the current Marvel universe?)

X-Men Origins? The one were Wolverine works with Deadpool and Blob?
I was asking myself the same question. That first solo Wolverine movie stank to high heaven, though in retrospect it has its fun moments.

Your wife went on iTunes and bought me the Awesome Mix Vol. 1 soundtrack? Well, that was very thoughtful of her. Please tell Mrs Thawmus that I truly appreciate it but that I hope that she saved the receipt. I already have it uploaded to my iPod.

(Just one comment - I have read that some folks think this is the best Marvel movie ever. I would definitely put it in the top 10, but The Avengers still holds the top spot for me. Go figure.)
I'm in the same boat with you. In comparison, I feel that Guardians does a better job establishing it's characters. Only Collector and Thanos appeared in previous movies, and yet there was no need for 3 movies to establish each character before the collaboration movie. Sure it helps that the main characters can be easily simplified as a raccoon, a tree, an assassin and a dumbass, and a human in the middle.
I do however feel that certain things, like Ronan, Yondu and the Nova Corps were represented rather poorly, which is why I still prefer Avengers. Ronan looked cool from afar, and his hammer was awesome, but he also went from a respected judge of law and order into a fanatic extremist a bit too easily. I like Pace and Rooker as actors, but Yondu can shove his whistle arrow where the sun don't shine for all I care. And the Nova Corps were too much cops in space instead of actual space police to my liking.
Dat soundtrack though.
I have a hard time deciding what is the best Marvel movie of this year, but top 3 has Winter Soldier, Days of Future Past and Guardians. And that's not a bad group to be in.

So did anyone watch last night's episode of The Simpsons? I nonly ask because in trying to escape from the US Anti-Movie Piracy Agency, Homer and family seek asylum from the Swedish embassy. The Swedish diplomats receive them with open arms, saying that in their country there is no such thing as copyright infringement and believe that all IR should be free and available to everyone. Question for Quebbs - how silly is that stereotype? I get that it's a gag, but I was just wondering what RL events might have been used for the joke. Also, now I imagine Quebbs' voice as sounding like the Swedish ambassador's now.

Well, they did prosecute the Pirate Bay guys, but that just led to the formation of the Pirate Party. Of course, in a year when every goofball, Mickey Mouse party in the EU managed to win itself some seats in the EU Parliament, the Pirate Party somehow managed to do significantly worse than Greek Nazis (although I think that rather says more about Greece than it does the Pirates).

The Pirates did have their turn in the European Parliament though. They didn't do a whole lot with it though, and then they lost it. I hope the Feminist Initiative doesn't suffer the same fate though.
Hmmm. Dollar/cheap theaters maybe. Don't think it'll be on many screens by then.
I figured as such, but man that sucks. I guess I'll have to wait and see it via downloading it on the web. I was hoping I could throw my money at them, but I guess that part will have to wait until they physically release it. Man, I just had to deploy this year, didn't I? Last year sucked, why couldn't I have gone then?
