Well, he wasn't gay until now. Back in Infinity Inc, he had a girlfriend. And then in JLA (during the "classic" Nuklon, Icemaiden, the Yazz, and Obsidian era), he refused to define his sexuality. He refused to be pigeonholed as straight or gay or bi or anything. And I liked that characterization of him. It was an interesting take on people's perceptions of other people's sexuality. For example, even though Nuklon was seriously turned on by Fire (or Icemaiden, I can't remember which), she just assumed he and Obsidian were gay lovers since they hung around together all the time.
I liked the idea of a character with noncategorizable sexuality. Maybe that will be played up again with Obsidian, but I fear he has instead just become purely-gay so that DC can have another clearly-identifiable-as-gay character, rather than a more interesting (at least to me) character whose sexuality is uncertain even to himself.
YMMV.
I think DC just has to make sure we all know who's gay out there in the DC universe. Wouldn't it be odd to find out some heroes, big name ones, are, in fact, gay? The ghost of Wertham would love it.
Seriously tho, why we, the readers, need to know, I don't know.

If Judd Winick is writing it, just assume everyone is gay. j/k
Darth, I'm not questioning the reasoning, or lack thereof, behind bringing those characters back. What I'm talking about is how they were actually written, not the real ramifications of their return. Like I said, in general I feel that once a character is dead, they should stay dead, or else death itself loses meaning. However, they've already brought these characters back and they have all been established in several storylines at this point, so I'm just comparing the ways that they were brought back. To me, the manner in which Jason returned (as it was written) is a good bit more crackified than the way Bucky and Colossus returned (as they were written).
i have become a recent convert to DC. the countdown to infinite crisis really hooked me. the death of the blue beetle was a really great story. not as good as the current events in daredevil, but still really good. over the past year i think that DC has really added more character to their heroes...and villains. much more that marvel, though i have hopes for civil war and annihilation.
basically i've dropped all the x-titles except wolvie (is that an x-title really?) and started getting superman, batman, JLA, outsiders, teen titans, firestorm and would probably pick up more if i knew what was good.
yeah the last two issues of nightwing have let me down...i honestly even thought of not buying them anymore but i mean nightwing got me into comics so i cant let him down...i'll just see it through and pray for the best....i am liking the JSA, Teen Titan OYL....and Dective comics and batman seem to be getting better too, superman is the only one i am going ot stop buying......

So............ if he takes over Superman/Batman, we'll be seeing Clark and Bruce on a yacht on the Riveria, oiling each other up with suntan lotion and playing little games, like playing "search for the submarine" in the hot tub.

Personally, I think it's too late. Death already has lost all meaning. And writers need to learn this: Stop killing characters! It doesn't mean anything! We aren't saddened by the loss of the character, because we know he'll come back. We aren't mad at the villain for killing the character because we know he'll come back. At best, we're mad at the *writer* for being so monumentally stupid as to think that we're dumb enough to fall for this sort of thing. (See, for example, "Graduation Day".)
its true, when superboy died i didnt think twice about it because i knew some how he's coming back, i mean it sucks! i would want him to die, and be gone for good...bringing back character that died takes away to the honor of their death....

but remember, if you've all read Titans #34, Robin making a NEW Superboy. that means this will be a new one. and as for good OYL books, i'm diggin' Green Lantern and the new Aquaman rocks! i've read the previous series when Pfiefer wrote for issue #15, and it's been awesome. Busiek took the Golden Age origin of Aquaman and brought to a whole new Aquaman, with Orin nowhere to be found. it really has been great so far.
