The only effects that work from the sideline are ones that have SIDELINE ACTIVE. So if you want the Name tokens to be placed by the sideline piece that power needs to have that as well. Also when designing sideline pieces you generally want some kind of restriction or condition (such as placing next to a friendly with a shared keyword or only working if your opponent has equipment. The more broad the requirements the weaker the effect should be). Oherwise the piece could go on any team for free and be too powerful.

웃 █ OO> ⦿ █ Trapdoors DOUBLE POWER: Until your next turn, whenever another character ends movement, after resolutions, you may roll a d6. Place that character a number of squares from its current square equal to the result. Now you see me... Shape Change, Stealth. Smoke Cloud as FREE.
SIGNIFICANT APPEARANCE: Batman #657 (2006) CHARACTER BACKGROUND: Architect, escapologist, and illusionist Van Kaliban began a life of crime using his talents to provide “escape insurance” for Gotham City’s criminals. Employing trapdoors, effigies, smoke machines, and other equipment, as the “Spook” Kaliban eluded law enforcement and the Batman while freeing insurees from prison. After only a brief stretch of crimes, the Spook spent most of his remaining criminal career behind bars in Blackgate Penintentiary. When released for good behavior, a humiliated Kaliban attempted to ascend the ranks of the Batman’s rogue’s gallery and become one of the Dark Knight’s principal antagonists. The Spook’s brief resurgence met an abrupt end when Damian Wayne, the Batman’s ostensible 10-year-old son, murdered Kaliban, deciding the Spook's legacy as a third-rate rogue.

Ignore Elevation: IM: Elevation. Giant Reach:2 Tactics: Job Change:At the beginning of the game, you may replace this character with a different character with this trait and the Real Name: "Various" from your sideline on its starting click. The point value of all replacement character(s) via this trait and your remaining starting force can't exceed the game's build limit. Lancer: SIDELINE ACTIVE: If Dragoon is on your Sideline, began your first turn on your starting force, and used the Jump special power your last turn, at the beginning of your turn, make a close attack against an opposing character occupying a Lance marker, modifying Dragoon's attack and damage +2, then return Dragoon to the map in the square with the Jump marker. Remove both markers and give Dragoon an action token.
Dragonheart: Once per game, STOP. Toughness. Jump: CLOSE: Choose an opposing character in 4 squares and line of fire using IT: Hindering, Characters, Elevated. Generate a Lance marker in the target's square and replace Dragoon with a Jump marker. Don't give Dragoon an action token for this action. // SIDELINE ACTIVE: Other characters or markers can't occupy the Jump marker square, even if this power is lost.

Hesster56 - The Priest
I don't have the stomach for horror films, but the Hellraiser series has always been one of those that I've pondered if I could take, because of the interesting complexity of the Cenobites. That complexity and attachment to someone using the Lament Configuration is well-captured here, though I have a question: You aren't adjacent to yourself, right? So an equipped opponent just has to stay off to themselves to avoid the penalty?
DestructoBoy - Mad Mud
This is the kid who radically changes his hairstyle every couple weeks, isn't he? His extendo-Defend is great, but what really put him here was the ability to throw everything into a single (easier) evasion roll instead of two standard ones. I like layers of defense (046 Martian Manhunter is my guy) but this way allows you to adapt to the powers of the attacking opponent, rather than just losing your Shape Change to Battle Fury and hoping Super Senses pans out.
Oathful - The Balrog
A fairly simple design for a character without much time on-page, but I really like its retaliation power when it's knocked to its STOP. It could be argued that this Balrog is an amateur compared to the ones that Morgoth had guarding Angbad, since a single wisdom-focused wizard defeated it.
Honorable Mention: Shadesmar - Horror Movie Monster TM
This is quite funny and well-designed. I know the powers it has access to are limited and random, but they are good powers, and that on top of (effectively) four STOP clicks should cost more than it does, in my opinion.

Thank you! For the Box, I actually intend you to be adjacent to yourself. So taking the power of the Box gives you a countdown. If you want to explore the further reaches of Sensation, you are accepting a death by a thousand cuts if you can't win in time.

1. Ben, NeverEnoughDakka. This rocks. It's a human, unpowered dial, his trait is strong but it's not overpowered due to his stats, and there's a grit here captured in only three clicks.
2. Ash, SuperheroJohn. The Evil Dead movies made me the man I am today! That's probably a very bad thing, but this is a very good dial. I like how he ramps up at the end but loses the ability to heal, and the autonomous hand nails the pestering threat aspect.
3. Man-Bat, Buckwheat. There's a really nifty use of Earthbound and I like how long-lived he is on the back. My only gripe is that if Kirk doesn't get to take his medicine, he's pretty easy to blow off the map.

I Won't Let you Get Away with This!: SIDELINE ACTIVE - At the beginning of the game choose a friendly character named 'Goku'. That friendly character has If a friendly character that is 50 points or more or is named 'Krillin' is KO'd by an attack, after resolutions you may roll a d6. 4-6 Replace this Character with Super Saiyan Goku after the red starting line. Super Saiyan Goku is considered to be 50 points for all game effects. Frieza! I'll make you Pay!: Charge, Flurry. FREE: Make an attack targeting an opposing character that damaged another friendly character since your last turn. Overwhelming Power: Impervious, Super Senses. When Super Saiyan Goku succeeds with either, after resolutions KNOCKBACK the attacking character one square. Protected: Outwit.
Turtle School Team Ability: When this character is attacked, you may replace its defense value with the printed defense value of an adjacent friendly character that can use this team ability.
Here’s an updated version of a dial I made years ago! I’ll try to do the flavor text later

Of Course, You Know, This Means War: FREE: If no friendly character has been placed this turn, choose an opposing character within 6 squares that attacked Bugs Bunny since your last turn. Place Bugs Bunny such that he can make an attack targeting the chosen character, then do so.
Demanding Conductor: POWER: Roll a d6. Move a character (friendly or opposing) within 4 squares and Bugs Bunny's line of fire a number of squares up to the d6 result. If the result was 1-3, after the action resolves, remove an action token from Bugs Bunny.

At Dawn, Look To The East: -SIDELINE ACTIVE- At the beginning of your turn, give Gandalf a Reinforcement token, then roll a d6. If the result is equal to or less than the amount of Reinforcement tokens Gandalf has, place him on one side of the map on click #5, then generate a Shadowfax bystander. Saruman, As He Should Have Been: Willpower, Super Senses. Flame Of Anor: Telekinesis, Blades/Claws/Fangs, Precision Strike. I Release You: Probability Control. // Support. When Gandalf uses it, he may choose a character within range and line of fire instead, and after resolutions remove an action token from that character.

Show Them The Meaning Of Haste: KNOCKBACK, Passenger: 1. // Hypersonic Speed. When Shadowfax uses it, he retains Passenger: 1, and the character he is carrying may make an attack instead.
Design Notes: I was tempted to go with Gandalf the Grey instead, as to match it up evenly with the Balrog, but with the given prompt I thought that Gandalf's entrance to the Battle of Helm's Deep was the perfect idea for a SIDELINE ACTIVE. As for the original challenge, I'm going with low budget on this one since the way the movies handled Gandalf's magic was...lackluster to say the least. Other than some Telekinesis and Curse Removal, which while cool aren't really shown off in the movies in a mystical light, our grand wizard here mostly just using Cantrip level spells and a sword. Still badass, but for what's supposed to be one of the strongest beings on Middle Earth, he feels more like a warrior than say Saruman is shown as on screen.
I'm changing my Langstrom's significant appearance to the Batman and Son storyline (Batman #655). Since that's the one that the Spook is from. So now my Round 3 will also have to be from that storyine, somehow.
Spoiler alert (for those that somehow manage to care)—he's probably going to have 9 of something.
And not one of those good options is Dracula evidently, given the complete lack of love/votes or HMs for it.
I know it's a niche audience for Castlevania, but I'm sticking to my plan to try to make the third round tie in if parameters permit. Though I admit I'm going to clean up the submissions for another thread where they'll be better planned to work together, or in the same set or something.

The Game is Afoot: When Sherlock Holmes targets a character, place a Clue token on that character's card. FREE: Move a character a number of squares equal to the number of Clue tokens on its card. Elementary, Dear Watson: When Sherlock Holmes is hit with an attack, both players roll a d6 and your opponent subtracts 1 for each Clue token on the card of the character that attacked. If your roll is higher, the attack misses instead; remove all Clue tokens from that characters card and deal it one unavoidable damage.
