Originally posted by Eric Rage There is a lesson to be learned here that rests somewhere between the polar opposites of Sandra Wu-San's "Yayyy for WizKids and Everything They Do" thread and the hordes of "We Quit" ones.
This game, plain and simply, rocks. There's no reason to quit as long as you have fun playing and have the money to keep buying it. But don't count on WizKids to deliver any more than the product you're actually handing your debit card over the counter to purchase despite what you may read here or hear from those in the know (judges, envoys, your cousin's girlfriend's brother who works in distribution.)
I believe it was all a blunder completely free of malicious intent on WizKids' part and I believe they truly regret the situation, but I don't know if I believe in their competance or that they place much value in customer satisfaction.
This does sum things up pretty well (and it sounds like a couple of days have given you a little better perspective, Eric ). It was a mistake, not deliberate.
We all love this game, or we wouldn't be here. What happened at WWLA was bad, but they are trying to fix it for the later cons. Yes, it would be very nice if they would give us real numbers instead of "plenty," but even an acknowledgement of "we messed up and we're going to try to do better" is nice.
Well I am planning a holiday in America this summer so though I would arrange it so I can take in one of these conventions. I know I will be upset if I spend a day standing in line for nothing having flown over from England. However I would not stop playing the game over it! I have to buy most of the LE's I want off ebay anyway.
Marlow.
You do know that Galactus is going to be available in the UK don't you?
He'll be at GenCon UK in October, down in Cornwall.
Have you explained how it would work? Rain check for all attendees. What about the people who did not go for a Big G. Give them one anyway so they can sell it on Ebay?
1. Email/posting really doesn't convey emotions very well. Wizkids probably does feel bad and the PR pressure on them is probably very extreme at the moment.
2. Mistakes happen. While I agree that everything done was probably done the wrong way, doesn't mean things can't happen that are outside the norm.
Personally, I won't cut Dorcas any slack. She may be a very nice person, but that doesn't mean someone should take the blame. She has put the apology up and for me, apology accepted. Of course, I wasn't at the convention so I'm not going to take it as personally as some here. I do, however, believe she should think about being somewhere else in the company and have Wizkids hire a true coordinator. Hey, with the big title comes high expectations. Remember, it's usually not the little guy that takes the blame for something big like this, it's the big guys at the top. For example, we're not going to blame the guy making Galactus as they didn't have anything to do with Wizkids decision on how to implement their lines, etc.
The only stat I would challenge is this "15" to retailers deal. While it may be true that 15 got purchases BEFORE the start of the convention, it doesn't mean the rest didn't get into plain clothes, waited for the doors to open and then hit the Wizkids booth. On mwrealms there was a group of guys that waited at around 8:30pm on Friday night to be in front on Saturday morning and know what? None of them received Galactus. That's really, really sad. So while Dorcas may not have control of the total number of Galactus's there, she DID have control of how the lines were formed and that was totally unacceptable.
If you want to quit the game because of this, then do so. Hey, there wasn't any guarantee you would have gotten one even if they brought a 1000. I feel for ya, don't get me wrong, but that's not a reason to quit. A better reason would be bad rules, midgame game mechanic changes, etc, but not because you couldn't get one figure that will see very limited tournament exposure to begin with...

Themark,
I assume you're being sarcastic.
I agree with your statement. These aren't gold nuggets. A few cheap pieces of plastic would go a long way to making it up. It's something more then "opps!!"

Once again, Wizkids is shoveling the brown and stinky right in our faces.
They say "Plenty" but what they mean is "Maybe 100 more or something." I think that's what we're going to assume until we hear different.
so at the next convention, and all other conventions there will only be 400 Galacti available. Half of which will go to retailers in some fashion or another. So plan your trips accordingly and be ready to show up nice and early to be screwed.
10-2-08 I just put a bunch of stuff on eBay including a numbered Super Skrull Illuminati and a CoG Galactus. Check it out.
no I want a real appology for the trip down there and coming back empty handed, I could have spent another day at disney or universal and gotten more out of my trip down there instead of waiting in line for hours to find out that they're a bunch of morons, Thuggit with all due respect shut up most people like you that say something like that have a better shot at one in a later con, I didn't even have a fighting chance to get one and since I used up my vacation time to go down there, I don't get any more to try and get to another one, so I'm screwed I feel as if they bent me over the tabe and had their way after me, it IS BOT A VERY GOOD FEELING, so in closing the only other thing I want them to do is drop dead, and than go to hell, or at least make a more sincere appology about this
"Zombie guards SIEZE him!!........now tell me thats not fun to say."
Originally posted by TyeDyeSamurai holy #### what do you want?! They're sorry, they're bringing more next time, and there are at least 8 cons down the line for them to sell Galactus at!
If I was Dorcus Bean, I'd make the Convention Exclusive a punch in the face!
hmmm 8 cons? okay let's see...I flew from Denver for WWLA - no Galactus - shelled out 400 dollars plus 200 dollars for hotel room, food, etc....then one in Dallas...how much will it cost me? 300 dollars - what if no Galactus? fly out again to San Diego and shelling out 400 dollars? Want me to go Ebaying? - no thanks. Anyone who lives on the West Coast are lucky whereas I live in Denver, not so fortunate. What's the solution? Keep all three badges and send to WK and explain that how much I spend the money and hoping to ask for a LE Galactus? Will WK care? Nah, I doubt it.
Even though if I get a Galactus from another convention, I lost a LOT OF $$$$$ - that's kind of win-lose situation. Not easy.

But what your not thinking about is the time/money to verify everybody that was their, the price of the little figures and the time and money to ship these to everyone.

Well then. With all due respect, which is none, I'd like to point out that you got everything you paid for. You paid for transportation, you got it. You paid for boarding, you got it. You paid for a ticket to get into the con, you got it.
You didn't pay for a Galactus, so you didn't get one.

Don't give me too much credit, bro, I'm still pretty bent about the situation and disappointed they aren't offering WWLA goers anything along the lines of restitution. But I've really made an effort to be reasonable w/WizKids and anyone who disagrees w/me on the Realms about the whole deal.
(For the record: I was never expecting ANY free swag, so just don't say it, kids.)
I never threatened to quit or thought Galactusgate was done even remotely intentionally. But I'm still amazed that they were working from an estimated attendance figure of 10,000 people and thought that roughly 300-400 was going to be even nearly enough.
Captain America: C'mere, let me get a closer look at that big gash on your cheek.
Bruce Banner: But I haven't got a gash on my cheek.

although I think Mews is doing fine on the work front this sounds like a wonderful idea.
I agree that this blounder should/could have been avoided but lets stop the whining.
