Very reminiscent of when we got the Hulk preview for Galactic Guardians. Looks like a pretty good figure, but it's hard to get excited about a slight variation on a figure we've just seen a bunch of times. It took the Target 255pt Hulk to get people excited about a Hulk figure again.
A Thor that fails to stand out from the FOUR Thors that we've gotten since LAST MONTH... Not so much. I'm still more keen on the rookie from the movie set or the FCBD Thor for slightly fewer points.
As for "Comic Accuracy", I tend to lean toward the looks/quacks like a duck approach. Movie Thor's costume isn't all that different, nor is his power set, I have no quams with teaming him up with which ever Asgardians or Avengers I want to.
The Overpower card game tried its best not to repeat characters. How did that work out? The main characters were often the worst in the game (they came first), while minor characters were the top cards for their innovative designs and learning from experience.
Same with the Vs card game. Because they stuck to team themes, the premiere teams (like Brotherhood, Fantastic Four, X-Men, Spider-Man, Syndicate, Doom) all fought to overcome overly simplistic and basic tricks, while the fun 'stunt' decks were all lesser-knowns like Kree, Inhumans, SHIELD, and Exiles.
Star Wars CCG was an excellent game with nearly flawless rules and direction. But the big disappointment was that the main characters were few and far between. Darth Vader appears only 5 times in just over a dozen sets. The Millennium Falcon only 4 times. And because sets came out mostly in chronological order, the Death Star is one of the most boring places to base a deck out of (meaning making an Attack Run on it isn't even competitive).
There's a certain amount of remakes necessary solely to keep up with game design trends. And there's a certain amount included for marketability. It's fine for most players if Rhino cycles out of play both as a retired character and an outdated design. But if there's only three Thors in the modern age, and only 2 are playable, and 1 is from a set that's no longer on the shelves...
Necessary evil for long-term collectors like us. Just pick up the new variations you like and skip (or trade) the ones you don't.
*sniff* You just brought a flood of memories rushing back with OverPower AND Star Wars CCG references in the same post! Much love for both, even to this day! If I could rep you for that and for a perfectly-worded response, I would gladly do so. I would argue, however, that the main characters in OP got significantly better once IQ came out...
Meanwhile, back on topic... I'm usually more of a ranged guy, so the HoT Thor is easily my go-to Thor. But this one has just become my #2. Both the sculpt and the dial get a thumbs-up from me!
After The Avengers Movie Set came out I thought, "So many good versions of my favorite A-List Marvel hero, I'll never need another Thor again." These Thor pieces combined with all the other Thor clix I own (nearly every version of Thor made to date) nearly all gained in the last 6 months or so, mean I should be sick of Thor more than everyone else. But I'm not, I welcome this version and I'll tell you why:
1. The Sculpt: A minor detail to some, but I like having variant costumes for playing "Visually Accurate" teams. This Thor and the two others from the 10th AN set provide different costumes outside of the Film versions.
2. The SPs: I love his Taunt style SP. The flavor of challenging an opposing character to "single combat" feels really awesome. Speaking tactical, the ability to dictate your opponent's choice of actions is a massive advantage. Better still since you'll be Taunting when Thor is at his strongest.
3. The AE Option: Yes the AE, one of the more maligned mechanics in clix. This Thor falls under the "WoS" AE style where the low costed AE is so good that it's well worth the risk and can potentially grant huge benefits.
4. The Low Cost Iconic: Each Film version of Thor offered a different specialty. FCBD Thor is the Tentpole, Common Thor in your cannon, Rare Thor is your melee monster, Target Thor is your low cost Team Player and the Starter Thor is your Crowd Control. This Thor seems to combine differing aspects of each into a good low cost versitile Thor.
5. Thor is my Favorite Marvel Hero: I don't think I need any other reason to be excited.
Best sculpt for Thor yet IMHO, but I still want a Thor that breaks 250. I want the Thor that hits Galactus in the temple and shatters his big ear-panel thing.
I'd like a modern age power cosmic thor, representing either the Odinforce version where he was strong enough to kill Odin's father, or the Norn Stone powered version that was able to knock The Void back into human form. Since Chaos War is covering the Siege story arc, the Norn Stone Thor would be perfect.

Oh Overpower, every comic book card game paled in comparison, lol.
So much logic and reason is too much for us to take. Please! No more!
After further inspection, I'm excited to try that SP out.
I will still go with the FCBD Thor. Seeing as this Thor is from the "Micro-Set", Can only hope for better from the main set. I just don't see how they can do anything else different since we got quite a few other Thors from the AVM set. Could be in for a curve ball on this one.
I just can't help it...that 10 attack is weak. First time he's seen it while not being a rookie. They missed on key power for thor to make him the beast he is. I could like the 10 attack if he: he had Energy Explosion with those two targets(first click), Indomitable or starting Impervious. He's ok when taking in mind the amount of support granted through avengers keyword..But I always see clicks as stand alone pieces click for click, especially when over 150. Eh, two more to go. Hope he has a definitive version at high cost and well worth it.
I've decided that I like AEs enough [more accurately, I like PeopleClix enough, and I find it very difficult to not have figures that mechanically tie directly into other figures I own] that I'll get a Donald Blake figure, and thereby get the corresponding Thor.
It largely depends on which one is easier to get, the Microset or the Main set. The dial doesn't really matter. Unless it's a Thunderbolt Ross situation, where the Micro Ross was far and away superior to the main set version, so I really aimed to get that one. [Even though I still ended up with a Ross from the main set.... anyone want it??]
But yeah, Microset figures are actually more expensive on any remade figure less than a rare, and even then it's a wash. I'm mostly just trying to get off Microsets entirely.
The only thing that could be a downer for me on this one would be if Donald Blake turns out to be yet another sculpt reuse of Bruce Banner. Otherwise, since I always wanted and never got the old Supernova Donald Blake LE, I'm pretty excited about this figure
The 175 point version is okay, but his attack is a little low for a high cost tentpole, even with Taunt later on.
But the 33 point Alter Ego? OMG! I'll have to wait to see Don Blake's dial (and keywords), but as it stands now, you could pay 33 points for an Asgardian Deity!!! Why is that a big deal? Remember all those Asgardian Warriors (and Valkyries) from HoT that power up when there's an Asgardian Deity around? Well, for under 100 points, you can have *three* Asgardian Deities on your team. Fill out the rest with Warriors and Valkyries to taxi the Warriors around and you have a crazy good team.

I was thinking the Matt Murdock sculpt, actually. With a different head.
