My only thought on Multiple Man is that maybe his bystander-upon-damage should generate once per turn, not every time he takes damage?
He's fine as he is, though.
After all, his power is duplicating, so duplicate he does.
Good idea to put a limiter on that portion of it! I've done so, gave you credit, and sent you some rep. Thanks again!
Looking back over all of it, I do see it as a sequel to my “Who’s up for a Ghost Rider Set” from years ago as much as it is a sequel to Wheels of Vengeance. The 90s is very strong here.
That’s intentional— 90s Ghost Rider popularized the character to the point of it receiving a dedicated toy line without an accompanying TV show. That’s HUGE. It was a moment where Marvel was publishing the most ongoing horror comics ever, all with shared continuity and several crossover events (for better and worse, alas). That’s what makes it so strange that the Danny Ketch Ghost Rider -the one who enjoyed the longest ongoing comics run of ANY Ghost Rider- has gotten so overshadowed in the comics and in Clix. Even the title "Wheels of Vengeance Rides Again!" is a reference to the 90s series The Original Ghost Rider Rides Again!, which published the last 14-ish issues of the original Ghost Rider series.
Having said that, I did try to include as many modern Marvel horror characters as possible.
As to the character rarities… I’m not happy with them, honestly. Unclixed characters, imho, shouldn’t be above a rare, and it’s lame to make a few of them super-rare primes. In all cases, I sought to make the primes easy sculpt-swaps of their counterparts. The lone exception is Knuckles O’Shaugnessy, who straight-up should’ve been the prime for 90s Jinx, a child with a similar build and outfit. Ah well.
I began to wonder as I slotted characters by rarity or for Legacy cards if I was following Wizkids’ method. “Here’s who NEED to be commons,” “here’s my chase theme,” “here are the characters who NEED to be the most elaborate,” and “I don’t have space for these characters so they’ll be Legacy cards.” I used the LE dials for recent horror characters (spurred by LostGaladorian’s great suggestion) and the never-clixed Zadkiel-possessed Danny Ketch, a surprising absence from WoV.
Most importantly, thank you all for checking out my latest act of hubris! Special thanks to those who commented and contributed:
Man, I got way behind. I’m going to go through and hit some of the highlights, because this thread is too good not to.
Straw Man
I’m so glad he made it in. He is such a fun character that I would definitely like to see more of. I really hope WK takes the opportunity to do a sculpt reuse like this some day. I think that’s the only way we’ll get him.
Love the fear lord trait. I like when there are powerful traits like this but still ways to deal with them. Special poison and penetrating damage against people in hindering is perfect. Leaping from the Painting is very flavorful and the pairing with his attack power is very fun.
Rintrah
Surprised we haven’t gotten him get, especially since he appeared in Dr Strange 2. The prodigy trait is really flavorful and well done.
Mr Hyde
Always love Thunuderbolts and MoE, though I am surprised to see him in this type of set. Can you talk a little about your decision to include him?
The Hyde pills is a great trait. I always love when there are creative ways for characters to lend support like this.
Deathwatch
Always love Hand and Hydra figures. Not familiar with the character, but his powers definitely feel like a ninja assassin. His ability to talk friendlies makes me wish for an option for less damage so he could be a finesse piece to purposely maneuver a character to a certain click number. Not sure if that is character accurate, but that’s what I thought of when I saw the power.
Wong
Would definitely find his way on to a lot of my teams with that high shareable defense and the follow along power. Handing out CR on top of the high defense defend is so mean.
Frank Drake
Face the Slayer is a great power, especially for this set. Not too familiar with the character, as I just started Tomb of Dracula, but I’m picturing him trying to shoot Dracula or other monsters with stealth and having a hard go at it. Would it be appropriate for him to see through stealth?
Undead G-man
He made the set! I love when Leadership does more than remove a token. Awesome use of it here. Hellfire Tommy Gun is a fun power. I love how he gets bonuses for being with other Ghost Riders, but it really makes me want a Spirits of Vengeance Keyword.
Slightly unrelated question as I don’t know the lore, would any Ghost Riders be eligible or the Demon Legion keyword?
Taj Nital
I love dials that tell a story and you can definitely see the transformation here. Well done. I think the steal energy only coming in at the end not only for story reasons but it also keep the cost down a bit while, when combined with the STOPs, still gives the potential of healing quite a bit and gives a lot of staying power.
Talia
Fun dial and I love the ability to damage friendlies for a bonus. I wonder if the low damage is worth the 50 points or an opposing character to risk damaging her and getting hit with 2 mystics damage. But the range combat expert paired with outwit does help now that I give it a second look. I bet a lot of opponents will make similar mistakes until its too late.
Jennifer Kale
Love keyword shenanigans so that first trait is fun. She’ll be a great support piece and be able to rack up mission points pretty easily.
Malpractice
Love the group transport. The free attack or support is a great way around the no move and attack powers and will catch people off guard. If he lands on the mid dial click he is going to be a nightmare.
Hannibal King
Really like the way the Lilith bystander works.
Innards
Long simple dial with a lot of potential. That Regen pairs real nice with Straight through the heart and the long dial. End dial poison is great to keep him useful while he puts himself back together.
D’Spayre
Fear Lord #2. Dare I hope for more? Love how all his powers are white boxes. Very clever. That special pulsewave is a great way of representing his power. Awesome job. Same with the defense power.
Varnae
Was hoping to see this guy. Freely handing out Steal Energy to anyone can get quite dangerous, though I love how he makes Vampires even stronger. King for 1000 years is going to be a mean trait.
Nightmare
Fear Lord #3. Starting to wish there was a keyword for them. I was disappointed the one we got in Wheels of Vengeance wasn’t on a horse, so I’m glad this one is. Love how he works against characters with 2 action tokens. Great way to represent him
Love that we are getting the random characters on motorcycles from this race. I was kind of surprised we didn’t get any in WoV.
Kraven
Love the Death race trait, great way to show them actually racing. Love how he counters other vehicles, but its not limited to just vehicle characters. Having a vehicle of the SS will be fun
Manthing
Love how he brings back the hindering of hindering terrain. Special poison is very fitting. Boything is a great equipment and I hope we get a real one sometime.
Dracula
Dracula on a motorcycle. This is awesome. Dragula will be a fun power.
Multiple Man
Fun version. Love how you can change around which Jamie is being hit. Wish he had Hydra keyword with all of the other Hydra presence in this set, but that’s just because I love a Hydra swarm.
Dr Doom
I’ve read a couple of stories that would give him the Avengers KW, but you’ll have to explain why he has the X-Men keyword as I don’t read them as much. I absolutely love him making Latveria kw autonomous. I would reach for this dial often.
Speed Demon
Yes Please! That was a fun book. Etrigan being the demon he was bonded with was a nice touch. Sonic Firestorm is a nice way to show the advantages of speed.
