Wheels of Vengeance was my all-time favorite set, as it was a love letter to Ghost Riders past and present, and it offered a smorgasbord of Marvel horror characters.
Thrilled as I was with WoV, I’m craving a sequel to it-- one that’s a bit more horror-focused. Thus, here comes Wheels of Vengeance Rides Again, a custom set hoping to do just that. In it, I’ll try to match power levels and paradigms with Wheels of Vengeance dials by rarity (commons feel like commons, chases feel like chases, etc.) and reference as many metal(-ish) songs as the official set did! I’ll also be focusing on characters who maybe should’ve been in WoV or, if they were, could’ve been more comic-accurate.
Starting next week, I’ll post 2+ dials a day, first from the 10 Legacy Cards, then from the set’s main dials, ending with revealing the ultra-chase on Halloween.
One last thing— More than seven years ago, I made my first custom set on this site, Who’s Up for a Ghost Rider Set?, which was obviously inspired by Baron Impossible's work. These characters are special to me, and returning to them, even in just customs, feels like coming home. I had a hell of a time putting this thing together.
Beyond that, I look forward to chatting about spooky superheroes with you!

Ooo! I've been off and on the Realms lately with life getting busy, but I'm definitely looking forward to keeping up with this! I loved what we got In Wheels of Vengeance, but I also would have loved more horror theming. Looking forward to what you've got and potentially learning more about the horror side of Marvel!
Squabbler returns with another feast for fans!
After how good your last DC custom set was, I'm very much looking forward to this one. The MCU thread is fun to drop in on, but the contents can vary based on what you're given to work with, whereas these finite, fully-plotted sets give you room to really shine.
I'm not at all a Marvel Horror expert (on account of not really liking horror content), but I recognize enough names to know I should keep watching this thread to beef up the knowledge I do have.
Your final three Legacy Card picks are precisely the ones I predicted for Wheels of Vengeance, so I'm excited to see your updates to them, even if they won't help me play my old figures again.
Would you consider including Mr. Sulk and Mr. Smile as a duo LE? They are recent (very minor) Dr. Strange villains, demons armed with Asgard-forged magic weapons. They also squared off with the members of Moon Knight's Midnight Mission (which is, naturally, where I was introduced to them).
You're in MY Dimension Now...: Dormammu can reduce penetrating damage, and his combat values cannot be adjusted by opposing characters. // Dormammu takes a maximum of 2 damage from attacks. Release the Mindless Ones!: FREE: Place a Mindless One Bystander in a square within line of sight and range (Max: 3). If there are already 2 on the map, this is a Power Action instead. Bending Reality to Suit My Whims: Sidestep. // Phasing/Teleport, and after actions resolve, Dormammu may make an attack for Free. Set the World on Fire: POWER: choose a square within range and line of sight and make a ranged attack targeting that square and all characters adjacent to it. The Dark Dimension Is Mine Forever!: Outwit, Perplex, and Probability Control. // Leadership, and when Dormammu succeeds, he may generate a Mindless One Bystander within range and line of sight.

Many thanks, friends! Glad to have you aboard!
Haha I should warn you-- I planned this badly. The idea hit me a week into September, and then it was a mad rush to get all the dials done by now. That is to say, I don't have an essay portion this time; just song links. That said, if any character interests you, please let me know! I'm always good for recommendations and elaboration.
Ooh, Mr. Sulk & Mr. Smile look interesting! Yes, I'll try to think of befitting LE dials for them. I appreciate the request!

Now THIS puts me in a happy place. Especially Umar. She has always been one of my absolute favorite Heroclix since that set came out. We should have had a a Legacy Card and/or remake by now. It's a Damned shame.
While I really like that Dormammu LC, I would love to see what you could do with the GGG006 Colossal dial.
Dumb story time.
My buddy owns a comic shop and keeps an eye out for neat stuff. Umar's first appearance was in Strange Tales #150 (Nov. 1966) and it happened to be in a collection he bought so I went to take a look.
He remembered how much I played the Vet Umar back in the day and I was a fan of the character. I was thumbing through it as he told me the price, which was fair. There were 2 stories in that issue. Her debut was in the 2nd story called "The Conquest of Kaluu!" featuring Roy Thomas and Bill Everett as the writers and Bill Everett as the artist.
The Dr. Strange story was cool and as he was ringing me up I checked out the first of the 2 stories which was a Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. story called "Hydra Lives! by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby which was cool. but what totally took me by surprise was when I realized that the new artist was John Buscema and was the first Marvel book drawn by him. (though they were over Jack Kirby layouts) Which was huge to me as he's my all-time favorite Marvel Artist.
I told my friend that as I paid for it and he totally missed the John Buscema thing. He was also a huge fan of Big John Buscema. But it was cool. My Holy Grail comic is The Avengers #57 (First appearance of my favorite Marvel character, The Vision.) and he beat me to that years earlier. So he's definitely the winner.

My thanks, friend! Glad you like the LC character selection here! Unarmed was a favorite of mine too back in the day, though at the time, I didn’t know who she was (as a middle schooler in the early 00s, I was very unversed in the Internet), and it wouldn’t be until I picked up and devoured Essential Doctor Strange Vol. 1 that I’d read the comic from your excellent story and learn about her. God, I miss the Essential books. Wish they were still being made.
Either way, thank you for sharing, and I’m glad you were able to get your hands on that comic!
I also appreciate the challenge to make an LC for GGG006 Dormammu! Someday, perhaps! Maybe for my next full set…?

Man the original dial here is so special to me. It was one of the first ones I ever had since my very first full team that I intentionally designed was based around the monsters from ASM and World's Finest. Many a game was played around the kitchen table with my movie monsters team. This Dracula was so fun to build around because he just felt so thematically perfect for when I started playing, so I love this update for him! Of course, the music choice is perfect too! I love me sets that work in music, and I'm having a lot of fun picking up some new fun tracks!

Many thanks, friend! That’s extremely high praise indeed! Glad I was able to spotlight a favorite!
My greatest shame is that I returned to Heroclix too late for ASM, and only had FI Dracula for the longest time; I have yet to experience the OG Drac’s greatness, but I’m hoping that changes soon! One of my playgroups is flexible with the point value of older pieces, so I’m planning on playing all 3 Draculas in the coming days…
Glad to hear the music feels fitting so far and has been interesting! Haha that particular Iced Earth album did most of the heavy lifting for the Legion of Monsters. Alice Cooper is also a common name in this set. Which of his songs count as metal? Well…

Hey, look - it's pretty much exactly what I wanted out of a legacy card for this dial (which I thought was guaranteed for the Wheels of Vengeance set). Switching up his Special Attack power to support close combat fits better with his new Plasticity and Steal Energy toolset than the original's weird split between close and range options. The addition of the Pilot trait makes all the thematic sense in the world. This update does one thing well instead of two things mediocre, and as someone who perpetually got based and eaten down while trying to use the character, I appreciate this version.
