The Warning are three sisters from Mexico who began releasing videos together about ten years ago, when they were about 14 years old down to age 9 (the bass player). Recently they have begun touring worldwide. I've listened to them for a couple of years, enjoyed their talent and music, but they haven't ever really done anything that just blew me away. I know their fanbase has been growing, and it seems a lot of people love their music. I like this new song a lot.
Rita Coolidge: The story goes that drummer Jim Gordon stole the piano coda at the end of Layla from her when he was her abusive boyfriend. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mC6l7ypNqKA

April is Autism Awareness Month. Unfortunately, I don't know of very many autistic musical artists (though I'm sure there are plenty out there). Here are two that I'm fond of:

Frequently this thread takes a healthy direction that makes me very happy. Perhaps we should rename the thread “Musical Heroes”. Found the following quote from a medical journal.
“People with ASD usually have a unique attraction to music and may have enhanced musical ability. This attraction to music can be used to allow children with ASD to participate in musical experiences, thereby promoting social skills (34). The musical strengths of children on the autism spectrum not only compensate for their social difficulties but also provide the potential for lifelong engagement in and enjoyment of musical activity (35). Many children with ASD respond favorably to music, finding it a safe and controlled stimulus for social interaction and social skill development.”

Look, it obviously took a great deal of time for research and precise experimentation to develop my mohs scale for music. I can't be expected to explain all the details in this forum. I remember the minutes and minutes (probably at least 5 or 6 minutes) comparing what is light and what is heavy, plus 2 additional minutes to type a reply. Since my attention span is probably about 12 minutes, this was a major project for me.
More seriously, I've now listened to other music by Neth Priere Cain and a couple of similar bands. On reflection, it feels a little less heavy than my first impression, and I enjoy it. It was probably influenced by the initial screaming or growling. Personally, screaming, intense speed, repetitiveness, contribute to a heaviness beyond what I really enjoy. Doesn't mean that level of heaviness is bad music, just not what I enjoy.
This is what I consider a 9 or 10 that I DON'T enjoy hearing. OFFWORLDER (Silent Planet) - I have heard other songs by them that I like a bit better.
This is what I consider a 2 or 3, which I also don't enjoy much, but never heard before today. FIREWATER (The Astronauts)
Yeah, both of those are not good.
Silent Planet has very little melody and reminds me of all those bands that appeared in the early/mid 2000's that are just trying to make a song heavier than Pantera's Walk, but they all fail miserably.
The Astronauts was a better song but that sound of the puttering engine underwater just really got me. I wonder if it was intentional or if that was just a bad recording of the song.

Because we're discussing numbers, feel-good, or best song revisited for the next Rock War. Those seem to be the most talked about topics right now, but who knows what may come up?
25 OR 6 TO 4 (Chicago) - Yes, the numbers in this 1970 song actually mean something. I saw them do this at UNC-Greensboro late 1971. At the time, it was the loudest concert I had attended.
Last year Phantalien introduced us to the Wagakki Band, a group that blends traditional Japanese folk instruments into contemporary rock and metal. For anyone wondering, Wagakki is a word that describes the entire class of instruments used for the traditional folk music. Just heard this song by them, and really like it. This is a music video that clearly shows all the instruments, both modern and traditional, plus the song probably could have done well in our just completed World Tour Rock War.
