Sigh... my fears became true. The old Spirit Cats disease (low range, crappy attack, aka LRCA) is back at large. And I thought they cured it in CounterAssault.
This unit is not better than the two LE's they showed us. It's just as bad. Right now, every SC unit I saw or heard of is not worth its point cost, compared to what we already got. Why should I use this monstrosity when I can have Declan Devalis, Youree Nova Cat and Zahiba Nostra?
This thing is just as bad as Kevin Nostra. Ok, defense values may drop in FP, but to all SC players: has anyone here used Kevin Nostra as a "center of every SC army" recently? No, I guess not.
From what I have seen now, I'm not quite impressed with FP. I'd have to say the designer team did a better job when they designed CounterAssault. Only the Shrike unique and the two Highlander LE's are really worth their points.

THe best (IMHO) SC Non, the Koshi, has IT and 10 attack - if I still played SC with any regularity, I'd take two of those instead of one of these big dumb brutes... :ermm:
Pssh, I'll run it. All Monic has to do is survive. He's charged with taking on vehicles and light 'Mechs, and he'll do that beautifully. Ignore Assault 'Mechs and run loads o' infantry, and we'll be good to go.
Monic doesn't really have the speed to ignore an assault mech. If you've got a Monic based army up against another assault mech army, the two of them will probably clash at some point. If you've got enough fast basers, and your opponent actually brought some lighter vehicle assets that will travel in front of the assault mech then that may work, but most assault-centric army types I see include a swarm of basers and maybe one or two support vehicles (infantry/repair) that hang behind the big mech.
He's a cool looking mech, I'll give him that. If he's got a 23 defense then I see him being okay. Nothing flashy, won't go tearing up other mechs, and based on the little info given not as good a value as the other SC heavies, but he could be fun.
Some day I'm hoping they'll up the potential of armor and actually let it work against charges/rams. Until then the armor SE's are pretty overcosted. I think the full dial of armor is what ups the cost for this mech.

Originally posted by Azra3l Kotch, The SS A4T was MEANT to have single use se, there's no way to justify giving it non su se for the couple of point increase in cost over the veteran vesions. the sneak peak indicated it was meant to be su. The a4 was not nerfed it was misprinted.
The A4 was not misprinted... it was killed due to excessive whining and a desire by WK to slow down the panic caused by their set retirement announcement.
If it was really a misprint, as you say, why did it take over 5 months for them to realize it (more if you take pre-release testing into account)? The VTOL that switched from Repair to Decoy was fixed BEFORE it became available to the general public... so there I can believe it was a misprint. But if the figure was released in January, used extensively, complained about by many and sat on the market until MAY before they "remembered" it was a misprint, then I don't believe it.
WizKid's attention was on that unit for a LONG TIME before the nerf came around, if it really was a mistake, someone would have caught it much earlier. If it wasn't for the endless whining and the threat of a mass exodus from the game (a lot of which still happened anyway), it never would have been "fixed".
Originally posted by The_Phantom *sigh* I didnt mean this piece of #### in particular. I ment the newer mechs in general.
Excluding the new HL stuff from the discussion, the new mechs stink. I don't think the low defense paradigm will work with the existing units. The Scorchers are better than most of these guys no matter what special abilities they have.
I have no inkling on the reasons for this. Maybe WK wanted to see more big damage and splodies.
Thankfully set retirement is coming. We can trash our prvious collections and start new with bird mechs.

Thankfully?!?
As in... Thankfully all of the old, playable units will be gone, leaving us with newer units not half as good, and a large collection of figures not allowed into official play?!?
Pulse is sort of a waste with a 9-attack. May hit the first time, but with the +2 modifier to defense, it may be tough to justify the shot and the extra heat to try for the second shot.
Of course with 16-defense on some mechs, a 9-attack is pretty high!
Would like to have seen a 14-inch range which would have been keeping with the latest long-range capabilities of SC.
