Another game for Gargantua and Flying Icarus, a break between the team tournament thing we're doing. This game will be a superhero version of King of the Hill. Some special rules and special victory condition apply:
Marvel 3 as the map, but instead of the middle area being water, it is The Hill.
The game will be 12 turns, and the object to be the one occupying the top of the hill (M12) when the game ends. Team size is 400.
The lines of J-P12 and M10-15 are the crest of the hill. Anyone on the crest can be seen by anyone on either side, but if you're on one side of these squares, they block line of fire to the other side. Anyone in M12 can be seen by anyone. The hill is gradual though, so there's no hindrance on movement. You can move from any square to any adjacent square.
No objects may be placed in M12, so no putting Batman in stealth up there.
Finally, to prevent the first player from just running up and grabbing the center, there's Doomsday. A neutral Veteran Doomsday (or some other really tough brick) starts the game already in M12. He goes last, and his moves are set. He will not move from the top. If no figure is adjacent he will pass. If any figures are adjacent when it's his action, he will attack the figure with the highest point value. If there is a valid target, will always push unless it will KO him. If he should get knocked back, he will move back as close as he can get to M12 on his next turn, and attack the figure occupying it on the following turn. He will be considered to have Leap/Climb all the way on his dial, so you can't tie him up to prevent him from getting to the top. (Of course he has several clicks of Charge which will prevent him from being knocked back until he's taken some major damage.)
Anyone who KOs the figure on the top of the hill with a close combat attack may immediately move up to occupy the square.
Some power limitations - Barrier and Smoke Cloud - You may not place either a Barrier or Smoke Cloud in M12 or any of the adjacent squares. Too easy to grab the center and just surround it with Barrier for the rest of the game.
Mind Control - Doomsday is immune (but not other characters).
Hmmmm....might be something similar for me, those amalgamated are fun. Love the team take good care of my girl, Psylocke and Gambit. So fun to write them.
I didn't roll initiative yet. Since the map is predetermined, shall we say winner of initiative gets to choose which side of the map, and loser as a consolation prize gets the extra heavy object?
OK I decided to do the same as you, great chance to use characters I've wanted to. My team is JLA-Men to your X-JLA.
Flash E 82
Quicksilver R 18
Phoenix 86 (Ultimates)
Atom 50
Beast R 41 (Ultimates)
Firestorm V 86
Huntress V 35
Like you my interpretation of the teams is very loose. Quicksilver is no X-Man of course but has aided them so often he might as well be an honorary one.
Couldn't decide between a R Rogue or V Huntress. Seem to remember that R Rogue does not fly, which, besides wanting to write her, is a reason I would use her. Can I vacillate on this choice a bit?
I have an idea for the next game. It's to recreate a team from a particular comic storyline. Example: Avengers Kree Skrull war could include a lot of standard Avengers plus characters like Captain Marvel and Super Skrull. Another example is the X-Men comics when they fought Kulan Gath: this included certain Avengers, Spider-Man, Callisto, Dr. Strange...Anyway just a thought.
I rolled 4 by the way. But too impressive but enough...
By the way the above idea of recreating a storyline doesn't mean we both come off of the same storyline. You might choose from JLA Worlds at War vs. my JSA Black Reign storyline (cool, Eclipso!!). Another idea I have is to make recreate a team that may not totally exist. Ex. Defenders where we'd use say existing Titania to be Valkyrie for example. Or create the Authority with existing figures, like Thor as Apollo. OK too many options right now.
Okay problem with Kre-Skrull War is the Kree or Skrull team would be one big fig and tons of mooks against lost of heroes. Not terribly balanced. One book that'd be very fun to create would be the X-Men/Teen Titans crossover, where they teamed up against Darkseid, Deathstroke and Dark Phoenix.
But mixing and matching teams from various storylines sounds fun. And sure, we could always substitute a "close" figure for ones that haven't been done yet.
Well the Kree-Skrull example would work a bit differently than that. I'd pick characters from the Kree-Skrull saga (so my team might be say Vision, Scarlet Witch, Thor, Super-Skrull, Skrull Warrior, Kree Warrior, Captain Marvel, Nick Fury) vs. say X-Men Kulan Gath storyline where I might pick Cyclops, Captain America, Storm, Rachel Summers, Magik, Dr. Strange, Callisto and Spider-Man). Of course it would be easier and more fun to recreate a specific story like the Kree Skrull War but like you said it would be very one sided.
As for the other idea, sure, we could do Alpha Flight with Shazam played by Diablo and maybe Sasquatch could be R Abomination. Archangel V could make a good Nightwing for the Defenders. Destiny could be Dream Girl from the Legion and the list is endless...
Hm, I see your reasoning for including the Atom. If he gets on the top of the hill, I'll need some serious luck to dislodge him. Wish I had thought of that.
I'm still not sure I have what to do right in my head but I do think I have a good mix of characters, your Superman scares me though, not sure I've got a good enough counter to him.
So to be straight, no one on the crest has lof to anyone else on the crest is that right? Or rather the J side can't basically see the M side?
The Danger room doors close. A big CLICK is heard indicating both lock and load for the scenario.
The Justice League and X-Men ganged together for a sparring match, a "King of the Hill" quest within the confines of the Danger room. For a twist the League and X-folks altered their rosters.
Professor X comes on the loudspeaker, "Green team. Please enter through the gates."
Like a Roman Gladiatorial event the "Green" team marches through, one by one.
Kitty Pryde chimes in for fun.
"First we have: the swirling, bouncing, bouyant and brilliant Beast".
Beast waves, "No applause please, just through money."
"Next is the diminuative darling of all the scientific ant-sized crowd. Errr...along with the Wasp...oh and Ant-Man....the Atom."
Atom says, "Thank you Kitty, ...I think."
"Next we have that faster than fast, quicker than quick..."
Quicksilver speeds out, "Oh please I am here already, Shadowcat."
"Maybe you were," Flash says from right behind him, "But I was here first. And she was starting to say quicker than QUICK-SILVER."
Pietro groans, "Argh. Another speedster. I detest speedsters. At least I don't need this speed-force thing my power is real."
Flash laughs, "Jealous much, whitey?"
"Next up is our little baby Phoenix: mistress of mind and a mean tk whallop."
Rachel Summers says a "Thanks Kitty" with the expected sarcasm. Few could miss that she is the walking wounded, unable to come to terms with the brutal timeline which she lived in.
"Here we have the determined and deadly crossbow carrying chica of chique-a the Huntress."
"You forgot to say beautiful and bodacious, Shadowcat. Keep it in mind for next time," Huntress says.
"Mucho graciouso and all," Firestorm says with a big smile before Pr. Stein corrects him that it's 'gracious' not 'graciouso'. Ronnie snaps back "Duh, as if I didn't know that Prof."
Xavier comes back on. "Alright Justice Leaguers and X-Men alike, my "green' team. Your job is simple, become King of the Hill and stay until the simulation ends. You'll have an opposing team and a mock of the villain Doomsday awaiting you. Good luck."
