Hey all, how's 'Clix?

Here's a thread for discussing teams and strategies for the Premier Level events coming up soon. I'll continue to post details here in the first post as they become available.

Dates: November through December, 2004

Format:
1. Open/Restricted
2. All universes are legal
3. The Premiere events are spread out across the legal date for Mutant Mayhem, making the figure pools for the events different before and after that date. The Date in question is Dec. 9th, on that day, Mutant Mayhem becomes restricted legal, Clobberin' Time and XPlosion rotate out.
3. Retired Infinity Challenge figures will not be legal
4. The default build total will be 300 pts - verify with venue.
5. Mutant Mayhem LE's (Bronze Rings) are tourney legal immediately, super-rares (Gold Rings) are tourney legal Dec. 9th.
6. Sentinels, Sinestro, and Bystander Tokens from the map packs are restricted legal indefinitely.

Prizes:
Championship Prize: Masterpiece Magneto
Fellowship Prize: Masterpiece Hulk
Participation Reward: Dr. Otto Octavius LE

I haven't heard a word on how these events will be handled in Germany (or Europe for that matter).
Since I haven't played a game since June I want to test some Ultimates. That U Thor still waits to beat up some bad guys.

Ultimate Thor will definitely be one of the litmus tests in these events. I kinda like vet. Mandarin as a counter to him...out ranges him and turns him against you.

I thought V Mandarin would work out but I think just plain damaging Thor is a better proposition. I was thinking maybe V Rasputin or U Mordru for the Psychic Blast

yeah, but you'll want to do 5, 6, or 7 damage to make him less of a threat...need to back those guys with some serious enhancement/perplex

I think Iron Man will cause a bit of shakeup, as soon as MM becomes legal. Veteran U-Men will make this man into a monster. Also, think about Vet Green Lantern (HJ) with 2 Vet U-Men...nasty. Especially when I-Girl can back them up.

About Thor...I think that a team with 2 Mach I Sentinels and some Perplex will be able to eat Goldilocks every time. Capture him with one, and block with the other. How viable is it against non-Thor teams? I don't know.

You definitely need an answer to the hammer man. With a little Perplex and some Support, Mordru could be that answer in disguise. Bring his range to 11, PB him, then OW the INV for your other attackers. If Goldie gets a return shot, he'll take more damage from Mystics. Plus, the rest of the team could, potentially, be Mystics, too.

If you are going to go with a stationary attacker, you might as well go with the best PB out there-Despero. V Raputin gives you some options because of his perplex, and Wildcard TA. I think Mordru would just be obliterated by Goldilocks in no time flat, to be too much of a factor, or even a serious consideration.

Also, Despero has a 12 attack, and can hit Thor for 4, which not only is a natural damage value, but takes Thor two clicks past his RS.

There doesn't seem to be anything special about these events - it's just the usual vanilla 300-point constructed. If you want to know what's best then take a look at the Wizard World Texas thread: TK, con artists, medics, wildcards - the usual suspects. Not to mention stalling, turtling and other features of the standard no-scenario, no-fun game.

The main thing I note is the weird distinction between the bronze rings LEs and the gold ring versions. Is the tint of the ring the only way to tell them apart?

I learnt yesterday that there's going to be one of these here in London. Hmm...

Well...the prizes are going to be mighty rare, and I think the idea is that these are meant to be somewhat, cutthroat? I suppose. I know that even though I tend to build towards themes (as you can see in my sig link), for this event I'm going purely mechanics as opposed to thematics.

Anybody have any more ideas for taking down the big Thor? Im guessing anyone with 4 damage along with an outwitter/(PB/EW) will be necessary.

Don't forget the all capture his butt, technique.

This is where his 16 defense is a hindrance. If you can swarm Thor, use a TK'er to chuck him back to a waiting Sentinel and get that capture. 374 points never looked so good or so easy to get...

Are Sentinel's retired? Anyone got the word on this yet?

Sentinels are not retired.

Dagger might be a nice answer too...she's got the 3 damage PBlast working.

Too bad she wont be legal by then. At least for the first event in Michigan.
