A=character with defend and defense of 18
B=character of defend and defense of 16

This does not work (The rightmost F has a 16) because Defend useses the unmodified defense value, thus disallowing chains. Defenders/JSA on the other hand can form chains but everyone who benefits must be a team member.

A=Invisible Girl/Woman
B=Professor X

Nope, sorry. You can only share your unmodified devense value. So, all those actually adjacent to A get the defense.

actually, the value given by the defend power is a replacement value, not a modified value. Therefore, yuo can chain the DVs to all the 'F' figs....

Yeah... I've run the "18 defense plus ESD" combo myself. But I like Wonder Woman...

Wonder Woman can share her defense and hide behind the SP's while she clears. Once she is clear, she can charge into battle for some smackdown. The nice thing about the Science Police figs is that each one gives you a different option... EE, RCE, & running shot.
