Hey guys. Recently I've seen numerous different ideas from dc comics as to who their strongest character is. Just figured I'd see what your opinions are.
1. Captain Marvel
Powers of solomon, hercules, atlas, zeus, achilles, and mercury. There are heroes in dc stronger than hercules, and faster than mercury. But his magical powers give him an edge in a head's up fight versus supes. although, in a fight against a mutual non-magical opponent, supes should do better.
2. Superman
Would lose heads up to possibly three of the guys on this list, but can do better against a mutual opponent than most of them. Stronger than marvel by definition of marvel's powers, and like anyone on this list, only limited by the writer, but still, his heads up record against these guys says something.
3. Martian Manhunter
Often talked about as being the strongest, but after that kind of discussion, usually gets a beating courtesy of some villian (see Preus in recent Superman comic). He never fights in a way to justify the way he's discussed, and in JLA books (mostly written by grant morrison) goes down to most everyone because of a fire weakness, even after he was supposed to no longer be as vulnerable to fire.
4. Dr. Fate
Unbelievably powerful, but due to mostly being in a team comic, suffers from Martian Manhunter syndrome in that he has to be toned down. Still, there's no one on this list who can consistently beat him head's up, but is the person on this list most in need of exposure, and a definition of powers.
5. Plastic Man
Wild card in that he was called upon to fight Fernus (evil Martian Manhunter) because he wasn't vulnerable to mental powers, and is talked about by no less than batman as being the most powerful hero, but can be frozen and broken up (Tower of Babel), whick means superman can beat him, but also means mr freeze can too. There's something bizarre about his powers I can't place, but still, has an easily exposed weakness, and almost never carries a fight the way supes or marvel can.
Sorry for the length of the post, but I was curious as to what everyone's opinions were, and even if you don't reply, just figured everyone on the realms should post once in a while. Makes the site more interesting. Be good.
I was trying to limit it to heroes who consistently fight in comics, and the spectre is obviously more powerful than these other heroes. You can make an argument for batman, and I'm not gonna limit the thread to the guys on this list. I guess Commishioner Gordon is powerful. Maybe young Gordon could make this list, so on the outside chance you weren't kidding about him, say what you want.
Well, considering that you posted this question in the Indyclix strategy & team building sub-forum, I would have to say ... Hellboy.
"Think of it, Batman. To never again walk on a summer's day with a hot wind in your face and a warm hand to hold. Oh yes, I'd KILL for that." Mister Freeze

"You may think I am evil. I am not. I am efficient." Darth Maul
Validus. He was routinely mentioned as being the second or third most powerful creature in the universe (right below the Sun Eater) and was routinely shown swatting around the likes of superboy and mon-el. Plus he had mental lightning, a hokey plot-device that took 30 years for an explanation.

Martian Manhunter
Superman M
Solaris
Superman Prime
Spectre
Ion
Plastic Man
Dr. Fate

Aside from The Presence (the big G himself), I would cast my vote for the Endless. Probably Death/Black Racer among them all. The rumors of their power was even whispered amongst the Angelic host in the Silver City.
