The fabric of reality ripped like a cheap nylon sheet, and a swirly purple portal hung in the air. Voices came from within the portal.

"Why do I gotta go through first sugar lump?"

"You have to go through first because you're the most expendable."

"Oh, ok. Hey, wait a cotton pickin' minute!"

<BOOT>

A young woman in a harlequin costume rolled out of the portal, and fell on her behind. She immediately held her breath.

"Harley, are you dead?"

"She's not answering Joker"

"I bet she's holding her breath, she's wily like that."

"I could shoot her"

"Thanks, that's very kind of you, but if anyone is shooting the love of my life it's gonna be me. Harley, did I ever tell you I find blue an unattractive color?"

The harlequin woman immediately let her breath out and gasped, sniffing the air. "Sorry Mr. J. Come on in, the universe is lovely."

A chalk white man with a purple velvet suit and maniacal grin stepped out of the portal. He held up his hands "My new home. Daddy's home!"

Another man stepped out of the portal. Half of his face was hideously scarred, and he flipped a coin. "You mean OUR new home dontcha Joker? Good thing for you the coin says Harvey is in at the moment."

"Sure thing Harvey ol' pal, OURS. I was just making a joke HAHAHAHA."

Others followed out of the portal.

A thin man in a containment suit, the helmet frosted.
"This place is too hot, but I can fix that."

A man in a green suit with bowler, carrying a cane with a question mark on it.
"Why did the criminals cross the road? To rob the other side!"

A short, waddling man with an umbrella.
"It's like a fish bucket without the handler, wak-wak-wak"

Finally what appeared to be a garden scarecrow come to life.
"You can just smell the fear. Mmmm, delicious."

Harley ran up to the Joker and gave him a big sloppy kiss on the cheek. He sprayed furniture polish on a handkerchief and began frantically rubbing at the spot.

"So puddum, what's first?" she asked, gazing up at the Joker with an expression of adoration.

"Mayhem, my little turtledove. Mayhem."

Maniacal laughter carried on the air for miles around...

Yes, i figured i'd give Wonder Man the feat of Haymaker. It's not the best feat, but it seemd the most appropriate / true to comics. Giving Hawkeye Trick Shot might help out his lower level versions, but be rendered superfluous when he becomes part of the Ultimates. I'm not sure if DKnight would allow In Contact With Oracle to reflect Tony Stark's access to high technology?

Yup, three actions per turn seems right to me (and slightly advantageous for me).

Let's see... Marvel 3 for a map. Waitaminnit. I thought i had all the maps!?... i see i don't have Marvel 4, either. Where are these from? Is that thing like a gazebo or something, i.e. outdoor elevated terrain, onto which a character could theoretically go? Or is it just blocking terrain?

Oh man, i'm gonna have to play this game on-screen (and not on the real maps up in our attic). This ought to be an interesting experience...

The park was a shambles. People ran screaming in every direction. The boating lake was froken in the middle of Summer, the police were rolling around screaming about ghosts, bugs and monsters; and a maniac was cutting down the trees.

The Joker had put a lumberjack shirt on over his suit and was cutting down trees. "Timmbbee....<SMASH>eerrr, think that was a cop car. Ah well, HAHAHAHA!"

Two-Face was getting impatient. "Enough of this horse play Joker, we should be consolodating power before any hero types catch wind of what's going on."

The Joker appeared next to Two-Face, and affectionatlely put an arm around his shoulder. "Relax Harvey old pal. We're dimensions away from the flying rat and his fighting orphans. I doubt this backward universe even has any super do-gooders."

A amplified voice filled the air. "This is Iron Man of the Avengers, lay down your arms and surrender, or we will be forced to take action."

The Joker sighed and pulled a spyglass from the folds of his coat. He looked for a moment, and then returned it to his pocket.
"I can't say that I'm impressed. Some flying tin can and a collection of misfits. They don't even have proper costumes! Also, I ask you, what kind of leader announces his intentions for the world to see, hhmm? He'd have to be some kind of lunatic." Joker folded his arms and took in the destruction of the park with a satisfied smile.

Mr. Freeze stepped up. "Joker, this idiocy ends now. We must take up positions and destroy them. I have yet to see their cryogenic technology, as you promised. Also, remove that rediculous shoe polish from your eye."

The Joker checked himself in a small mirror, and backhanded Harley without looking, busting her lip and knocking her down. He then spit on a handkerchief and cleaned his eye.

Harley put on a hurt face and pouted. "Geez Mr. J, for a guy named the Joker you sure can't take a joke."

The Joker rounded on her, his eyes blazing, causing her to curl up in a ball. "I create the jokes, I am not one of them!" His face suddenly returned to a neutral, happy demeanor, and he offered Harley a hand up. "Come turtle dove, gentlemen. Let's go and show these so-called heroes that the joke's on them HAHAHAHA!"

Wonder Man's jaw clenched visibly. "Did he just hit her?!" he asked rhetorically. "That guy in the purple coat is gonna eat my fist!"

"Slow down, Simon," Iron Man said. "They might look like Bozos but they might well have a few tricks up their sleeves. We don't know what we're dealing with here, yet. Hank, head out but stay under cover; and keep your little friends on alert. Wanda, cover me, if you would. Hawkeye, how are you feeling?"

Hawkeye hesitated with his response. He found himself in another strange situation, next to Iron Man and preparing to face off with some costumed weirdos together with the Golden Avenger -- when he had been seeking some sort of revenge such a short time before. He looked out across the frozen park pond and replied, "I'm feeling fine."

"Good," said Iron Man. "Let's go then." Turning on his armor's loudspeaker system again, he said, "I repeat: drop your weapons and surrender before we are forced to incapacitate you."

You do write the Joker with an alarming degree of comic-book-like accuracy and high entertainment value, i must say. So when was your last visit to Arkham? ;-)

Harley ran up to the Joker, tripping and rolling in to the bush next to him. "Are we hiding Mr. J?"

The Joker slapped a hand to his face, and slowly slid it down. "That was the plan, until you came lumbering in with your size 15 clown shoes."

The Riddler moved up to cover. "Will you two be quiet?"

Joker put a finger up to his lips, "SSSHHHHHH! CAN'T YOU SEE WE'RE TRYING TO BE STEALTHY?" He turned to Harley and shook his head, "Some people just can't be quiet."

Harley nodded and gave him a thoughtful look, "The art of stealth is dead." She took the flower from her button hole and laid it on a dead pidgeon she'd found in the bush.

The Scarecrow moved up by Two-Face, cackling. "I can't wait to see what they're afraid of. I hope it's not failure, I am so sick of these heroes always being affraid of failure."

Two-Face glared at the Scarecrow and flipped his coin. "####, you get to live. Joker, what about the pond? Frosty's fun puts us at a disadvantage."

A cold, metalic voice called out from cover. "Call me 'frosty' again, and I shall kill you Mr. Dent."

There was a tutting noise from the Joker's bush, interupting the earlier sound of girlish giggling. A ragdoll flew out and slid along the ice.

"Mama."

<BOOM>

The explosion shattered the top layer of ice, making the pond in to a potential icy grave for anyone trying to wade across.

"Affirmative, Hawkeye," Iron Man replied steelly. "The one in the purple coat seems to have put down the chainsaw for now, but that IED hidden in the doll packed a large explosive yield. I was right to extol caution."

Scarlet Witch felt pity. "What happened to that poor man's face?" she wondered. "What happened to _that_ poor man's face? and what happened to that poor girl's face?" She resolved to apprehend these misguided clowns quickly so they got the help they needed.

"So do I Harvey old chum, and getting my face smashed in isn't top of them. Did you see the one with the funny little jet-belt? He had muscles like my old gym teacher, and she was a big woman. No, better to get their measure, and them stab them in the back. Besides, I have a few tricks up my sleeve HAHAHA!" laughed the Joker, a 3 inch spring loaded knife popping out of his sleeve.

I clear.

Iron Man thought to himself, "Those villains! First they attack Mother Nature and drive law-abiding families out of the park, then they cower and hide. How typical of them!"

Scarlet Witch thought to herself, "Those villains! They're clearly afraid and in need of help, hiding the way they are. We probably scared them."

Hawkeye thought to himself, "Those villains! They're obviously tricky and setting trap for us, hiding in the bushes like that. I would prob'ly do the same in their shoes if i saw Shellhead zooming in at me... Well, i did see Shellhead zooming in at me that one time..."

Iron Man flies over to R14, also exploiting the insects, and sets Hawkeye in S15.

The Penguin suddenly seemed to realise that they were in trouble, and stopped chasing ducks with his umbrella long enough to shout out helpful tactical options.

The Joker moved closer to the heroes. "Ewww, you can smell the scent of stale sweat on spandex from here, those are heroes alright. Come Harley, maybe your face will scare them in to surrendering."

Harley slumped her shoulders and stomped over to the spot the Joker pointed out.

Joker took in the battlefield, and noticed a strange Gypsy woman standing on the other side of the lake. He watched her move her hands in strange ways. "I can't have any mumbo-jumbo messing up my mojo. Hhhmm, I need something to mis-align her chakras. Ah ha! My lucky dice."

Joker took out a pair of loaded dice from his pocket, and taking careful aim, skimmed them across the water. He was rewarded by a cry of pain from the Gypsy, and she stopped finger wiggling long enough to rub her shin.

"That's showbiz toots!" laughed the Joker, doing a little dance.

Harvey saw the one called Iron Man coming at him, jets flaring, and momentarily had the urge to surrender. He quickly flipped his coin. It came up with the defaced head showing. Reaching in to a bag, Harvey unfolded a missile launcher and let fly. Iron Man was so suprised that he didn't vear in time, and was smashed backwards, the front of his armor damaged.

Freeze observed his opponents. Right in his sights was an archer. So cocky, so like the Green Arrow, so...alive. Sneering, Freeze shot him with his freeze ray. The archer was still alive, but ice clung to his costume and bow, the sudden extreme cold threatening to stop his heart.

Harvey Dent outwits Iron Man's invl, then attacks him. AV8(using Mr. Freeze's AV) vs DV16. Roll is 6+6(12), HIT (YOWCH!). That's a hit for 3 damage (1+1 for perp+1 for crit) and KB to U11!

The Riddler perplexes Mr. Freeze's range up to 7.

Mr. Freeze attacks Hawkeye. AV9(using the Joker's AV) vs DV16. Roll is 4+3(7), HIT for 4 damage (2+RCE).

Iron Man couldn't believe the luck of that scarred man; he managed to hit a key relay in his breastplate. Systems were going haywire, and Iron Man staggered backward. He had to take a break and regroup. "Hank, see if you can slow them down a bit," Iron Man said.

Hawkeye screamed in pain as his arms froze. Nonetheless, he raised his bow and took aim. His arrow flew, however, just wide of the tall, thin man with the scythe. Hawkeye felt as though he were between a rock and a hard place. "First those Masters of Evil losers and now this; it's like i can't win..." he thought.

Wonder Man's eyes widened as he saw Iron Man take a big hit. He turned his head back their foes, clenched his jaw and hefted the motorcycle in his hands, looking forward to some payback.
