Frontman came up with the idea: Nearly every weekend of every month, we get together and to play a game that they love. Why not make that time count for something? Why not play the game that you love to help those that you love?
DS-00-0, FSD put together the first event at Adventureland Hobbies and Games in Bloomington, Illinois. ‘Realmsers from all over the Midwest gathered and gamed and together they raised over $800.00 for the Susan G Koman Breast Cancer Foundation.
I was unable to attend their event, but I was inspired by their vision. So, I got to talking with the owners of my local venue. And, here’s what we’ve got.
On June 25th, GateKeeper Hobbies in Topeka, Kansas will be hosting Clix for the Cure II as a fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is the single largest center in the United States for the treatment and research of pediatric cancer and other childhood catastrophic diseases. It is the place where doctors from around the world send their toughest cases and most vulnerable patients. Discoveries made at St. Jude have completely changed how the world treats children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases.
And, families are never asked to pay for treatment. Once a patient is accepted, St. Jude covers all medical costs beyond those covered by insurance. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital also provides for the cost of transportation, lodging, and meals.

Re: Clix for a Cure II Event - Topeka, KS - June 25th
What to expect: Fun, fun and more fun.
... oh, and did I forget to mention that this is a Fantastic Forces Pre-Release Premiere Event?
Our first event will be the First Flight of the Fantastic Forces Premiere event. Our game area is huge, but we’ve only got room for the first 50 people in this event. So, if you plan on playing in it, be sure to get there early to get registered. You’ll get three boosters of Fantastic Forces to use to build a 300pt. team. We’ll play 3 rounds of Swiss pairings. Entry fee for this event is $30.00.
The Second Flight event will be the top 16 players from the First Flight, and any players that had previously qualified by winning a Wizard World Invitational Series Local event (which will be held June 18-19th). This will be a 300pt. constructed event. If you did play in the First Flight, you advance for free. If you didn’t play in the First Flight, entry fee for this event will be $15.00.
And, if you’re not among the players playing in the Second Flight, you can still play in a Side Flight event with your 300pt. constructed team. I’m toying with a few ideas for ‘special’ rules on this event*. Regular entry fee for this event will be $5.00, but you may want to bring a bit of extra cash to 'donate' ... you know, just in case.
* - For instance, one of the things I'm considering is making this a 'Buy the Judge' event. It would work like this: You're in the middle of a game and propose something completely ridiculous that would normally not be allowed. Your opponent can challenge it and then you say, "Well, let's ask the Judge!" If it's something fun and frivolous (and not completely against the rules), I'll say "Wow. I don't know. Let me check the FAQ! *wink wink nudge nudge*" And then, you and your opponent bid. If you bid the highest, that becomes a house rule for everyone for the rest of the tournament (and, yes, we'll be keeping track). If your opponent outbids you, I rule against you. Get it?
We’ll also have pick-up games going on as space allows. And, as is the case any time that 'Realmsers get together, fun, frivolity, and many in-jokes are sure to ensue.

Do you know if you'll have enough FF boosters for people to "buy in" for a second flight if they don't get into the constructed portion of the event? Is WizKids still doing participation prizes? And lastly and most importantly, do you know what precentage of our 30$ would go to St. Judes?

We're getting enough for the first 50 people to get in to the First Flight event. That's the only part of the event that is a sealed booster event, so if you don't get into it, you won't need boosters.
There's a chance the venue will just eat the cost of the boosters they had to pay for and send the entire $30 to St. Jude's, but I can't commit them to anything (especially since they were nice enough to front the money for the boosters when they didn't have to).
100% of the money from the Second Flight and side events will go to St. Jude.

Prizes? Funny you should ask.
First, we've got whatever WizKids sends us for the Premiere Event. I'm told that they'll be similar to the Legacy Pre-Release stuff, if that gives you any idea. (Wasn't it factory sets?)
Then we've got the Venue Crew rewards from the Mutant Mayhem Pre-Release that we'll be giving away. The venue also had some LEs and other assorted stuff stashed away (that I only got a brief glance at) that we'll be giving out.
I'll be giving away a boxload of my own LEs. (I'll also be taking donations from other Judges who don't want their extra Envoy Rewards ... so, if you've got some to send, PM me!)
We're working on getting some special stuff from some 'hot' comic book artists (for instance, we're talking to a guy who's done a recent run on Batman and Superman ... Jim something-or-other), but they are taking forever to respond to e-mail replies ... so that's still in the 'unconfirmed' category for right now.
But, I'm sure there'll be more to come.

So we get to help kids who're in situations no kid should be in, plus we get to play clix? Sweet. I hate childhood illnesses more than I hate cancer... And I HATE cancer.
Jacinb, thanks a WHOLE lot for organizing this. If there are any Wichitans reading this, pm the ole' Rascal. I'm trying to get as many of us going that way, so if ya'll need a ride, or wanna carpool that way, lemme know.

How I wish I could play more often and that there were more venues in New York City in which we could hold events like this.
I love seeing stuff like this and am always glad to contribute. I have done a number of events for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, and would love to be a part of these fantastic ways to raise money for cures and allow our children to have a better life.
