Now despite the Deathstroke/Terra sex stuff (in the other thread) I thought I'd discuss it more here:
Talk about taking a trip back to yesterday. Could you BELIEVE Jerichos huge arse mutton chops?
And Kory certianly looked more "cute" then trashy. I liked seeing her and Robin/Nightwing together. Speaking of, man back int he OLD Robin outfit! And Wally as Kid Flash! Heh!
I liked the old feel of it. Like Brother Bloods "slow to kill them" mechanism. He could have you know... just killed them but NO he has to use a slow moving device to do it!
And man, I thought the story would be somewhat like int he cartoon version. Terra was just mislead etc etc but not in the comic. Here she was just straight up evil/crazy.
I even found it odd/funny that the Titans still erected a memorial to her based on a mistake that they thought she was helping them at the end (when she started fighting Slade). I mean after all the wicked nasty stuff she said and did they STILL believed she double crossed Slade JUST for them when in fact she planned to kill them all.
Over all it was good with a few points I didn't like, not sure it was worth the $20 I paid for it but...
For me, Judas Contract suffered in not living up to the buildup. Slade had been dogging the Titans since issue #2, Terra's ID as a traitor was slowly revealed, and then the payoff-- a 4-issue long paper-thin story, sandwiched inbtween Slade's origin in flashback (which was OK, but not great) and the intro of Jericho (possibly my least-favorite Titan of all time). Slade taking out the Titans (but not gettind Dick) was probably the best sequence, and it's near the beginning.
The end? Meh. Terra goes berserk (for no good reason) and blows everything up. Gar is sad. Slade is depressed.
A lot of people love this story, but for me, it was the signal that the great era of Titans comics was over (and probably had been for a little while). Slade's first couple of appearances were far cooler stories. It did introduce the Nightwing ID, which I like (but with a terrible costume!). Ah well.
Give me issues 1-24 or so, ending with the K'omandar storyline in the annual over anything later. Jadas Contract was just a last hurrah, and not a very good one at that.
As a primarily Outsiders fan, I just remember it being abrupt and messy. There was still a lot of interplay between Brion and Terra I wanted to see. Instead it was suddenly just over, and not even in a good story way like:"look how quickly my life changed". Geo-Force just moped for a few panels, got a new costume and then went on without missing much of a beat.
I expected much more fallout in both Titans and Bat:O than was given.
