X-men Issue #12: No good deed………..

As the large man walked around looking at his surrounding, he was amused at how different this was compared to his usual place of operation. “Spider City was a rare jewel that I’d never allow to leave my grasp,” he thought, ”but there is something about this dimension. So much life. So few obstacles. So many possibilities.”

The new recruit he had brought with him approached, bowing with the proper subservience, ”Lord?”

The imposing figure regarded the woman for a long moment, making her wait. She said nothing, she learned her place quickly. That was promising.

He finally spoke to her, ”You have found the object.” As he indicated for her to rise.

As she rose she was careful to keep her gaze down, ”Yes, my Lord. As you believed the object was easily detected by it’s mystic properties. With the steps you have taken to improve my mystic arts since you accepted me I was able to locate it quickly.”

He did not look at her as they walked towards the object, she was not yet worthy of that much respect. But it did seem that she had the makings of taking the first steps on that long road. “Yes I chose well when I added her to my organization,” he thought.

As they approached the imposing figure noticed the final barrier holding back his prize. A large slab of rock, mystically hardened to damage the man who had hired him had advised.

“I have concerns about this object, Lord. The mystic inscription tells of the object granting power beyond comprehension.” She advised, ”Perhaps this prize would be better……….” She was cut off by one of the many arms from the imposing figure grabbing her by the neck and bringing her mere inches from his face.

“Your concerns?”

“I forgot my place, I beg your forgiveness.”

He held her for a moment longer before slamming her to the ground, “See that it doesn’t happen again.” That type of treatment would kill most people but this mystic was far more resilient that she appareled.

“It will be done, my Lord.”

With out looking back the imposing figure walked up to the slab of rock. After looking at it for a moment the figures eight extra arms clamped on to the rock and started to twist and pull. It didn’t move at first. First it whined in protest, then it started to move. It would not oppose him. Nothing did………………

Meanwhile on the Black Bird

Brian walked to the back of the plane to speak to Logan. Since they had departed from Muir Island his shorter teammate had been brooding……even more that usual. And that was saying lot.

“What is bothering you, Logan? Is it about that child Marie? I am concerned for a child who shows such disregard for her safety.”

“No, she’s a good kid. She was just trying to do her part.”

“Remember not long ago that child was a member of the Brotherhood, I don’t trust her.”

“Not all of us have a spotless past, bub. She’s just trying to make up for things she did when she was confused. I can relate to that.”

Brain still didn’t know much about Wolverines past but from the little bit he did know he trusted his judgment. The look in his eyes as he talked about past mistakes spoke volumes as to who’s previous mistakes he was really talking about.

“But I wasn’t thinking about the kid.”

Brian was about to ask what he was thinking about……..but he realized what Logan was thinking about. Brain had been thinking about the same thing himself.

The last time they headed into the unknown they had lost a part of their family. The wounds from Jean's untimely departure was still fresh for all of them……..well maybe not Emma. But she handled things differently than the rest of the team.

Brian didn’t need to say the words out loud. He just nodded to Logan and left him to his thoughts.

Up front Scott and Hank were piloting the Blackbird. When Emma spoke to Scott in his mind, “They are all thinking about Jean. They all remember what happened the last time. You should say something.”

Scott gave the controls to Hank and keyed to comm, “Can you guys come up here.”

When Logan and Brian took their seats Scott turned his chair around to face them, ”I know what’s on all of our minds. She wouldn’t want us to lose our focus because of her. She wold be saddened to know her loss put us in more danger. When Jean…………before she………she wasn’t the Jean I remembered. But I still miss her,” He looked right at Logan, ”I know we all do.”

No one replied.

“Not bad Mr Summers, I think this leadership role suits you,” came Emma’s thoughts.

With a final powerful surge the slab was thrown to the side. If the imposing figure had exerted himself in the effort it didn’t show.

The imposing figure reached for the object with his outer limbs as his normal arms where crossed easily in front of him. He placed it in the enchanted box that he had been given to transport it. “Open a message pool, I wish to speak with our contact.”

The mystic cast the simple enchantment quickly and stood back to let her Lord step in front of it. A blurry face started to come into focus, ”How goes the mission, Lord? Have you encountered any resistance?”

The imposing figure sneered under his helmet as he held up the object in the case, ”The mission goes well, there was no resistance to speak of.”

“Excellent, but you must hurry. My enchantment to keep you and your companions in this dimension is quickly wearing out.”

“Time will not be an issue, Baron. The object will be in your possession soon.”

“Then it appears that our agreement will continue, have my teachings helped your mystical agents yet.”

“Magic, is something that most people can’t prepare for. I will hold the skills that you have shared to those in my organization in until they are needed. It would not do to show all of the weapons at my disposal, Baron.”

“An excellent philosophy to be sure. I will be awaiting your arrival, Lord.”

As the Blackbird landed the X-men moved to the front of the catacombs in front of them.

Beast moved to the mouth of the cavern, “Perfectly smooth, not a mark to indicate a tool was used to create it. It must have been some sort of high temperature blast to create this, fascinating.”

Scott looked to Emma, ”Can you do a scan to see if there is anything to worry about in there.”

Emma stepped forward and put her fingers to the her temples she could sence six beings and was just about to let the others know when she heard a voice in her head

“May I ask what you are doing?”

“I’m scanning for trouble and I found you, what does that say?”

“It says that you are a talent worthy of my attention. Sadly, I do not have the time right now to explore that possibility in greater detail. You will step aside and I will allow you to live.”

“Just who do you think you are? I’m Lady Frost, formerly of the Inner Circle. Those who know me know to be more respectful.”

“Curious, I was about to say much the same thing to you. I am Lord Recluse and whole worlds cringe at the very sight of my form. It would be a shame for me to destroy you to prove that point.”

Scott touched Emma on the shoulder, “Find anything?”

“Six of them, one of them has a powerful mind. He calls himself Lord Recluse. I think we’re both her for the same reason.” Said Emma as she rubbed her temples…even talking to him caused some strain.

“Good, I’ve got some hostility that need to be redirected.” Said Logan as he started into the mouth of the catacombs.

Notes- The Arachnos team will start on the top of the map (depending on where you’re looking the grid might differ), the X-men will start on the bottom.
- Don’t forget Lord Recluse’s TA, which is like the Mystic TA
- Lord Recluse is in posession of the object. It will only be dropped when his is captured or KOed(it will drop in the space that he was in).
- If the X-men are in posession of the object by the end of turn 15 they will earn 2-TXP, if they don't........well bad things and stuff.

Wouldnt happen to have a Link to the Map would you? Checked Creationmatrix and it wasnt there.

Also I know this is a dumb question but whats Rolling for Objects For? who gets to control them? Or who gets the HO?

As the team approached the entrance to the ancient catacombs, Emma looked over at Scott and smiled, then she closed herself off again and mentally sent to the team They've obtained the mystical item we read about in Moiras notes. We have to stop them from escaping with it at all costs..is that clear.

"Well lets get to this." said Capt Britain as he reached back and grabbed Logan by the collar and flew to behind some old tombs, ripping up a chunk of masonry as he landed. Logan jumped down and hid behind those same tombs.

Emma walked forward standng behind a barrel vault and sent careful, their leader is very powerful

Cyclops ran up and stared into the darkness of the catacombs "yeah but so are we!"

Heh I just thought of something. If Lord Recluse actually came into the Marvel Universe Im betting hed die Laughing. Considering in CoH You see a Wolverine and most of the other X-Men every minute. Heh...

He'd stand at point at Wolverine and say "Do you have a brother called wolv3r33n? He crashed my hideout with LegolassII and 733tdud3 last night!"
