When I considered making an Arsenal, first and foremost I wanted a playable piece -- One that I could team with Green Arrow V. I decided to use the Green Arrow E as my base. I cut off the left hand holding the bow and replacd it with the left hand of Huntress holding a crossbow pistol. Then, I shaved off the bow from the hand and glued it to the quiver. I replaced his head and right arm with ones from a Gotham Undercover. The right arm was wielding a pistol. I then repainted the figure showing him in his brown uniform. Overall, having a gun, crossbow pistol and bow best represented his "master of arms" reputation.
Power Woman
With this figure, I was definitely going for the look. I used the Dove E as the base. I cut off Dove's ponytail. I replaced her feet with the boots from a Black Canary. I shaved the cape off a Robin and repainted a brighter red. After I glued everything on, I then repainted. The only thing I forgot to add was the yellow rope holding the cape on. I like putting this figure on a Wonder Woman base.
War Machine
I simply repainted a Crimson Dynamo. This wasn't as easy as it seems because the red of the Crimson Dynamo kept permeating the paint. Then, I cut the pistol off a Hellfire Guard, drilled a hole in the front and mounted it on the left shoulder. I was thinking of doing the same thing on the back by the right shoulder. I use this figure on an Iron Man E (natch!).
Savage Dragon
One of my favorite pieces. I just repainted a Thug! Then I cut the head fin from an old credit card, glued it to his head and painted. I am trying to get my hands on a Ulik V in which to place the Savage Dragon. Better yet, a Despero U, CM Hulk U or The General U would better represent the Savage Dragon since he should have a range attack! If only I can bring myself to mutilate one of these Uniques...
THE MODS OF admironheart
I was a painter of D&D figures for years before getting into the Warhammer 40K hobby. Then I discovered Heroclix and wanted more than just the collecting and gaming...so I started to make custom mods of my favorite characters.
Although the painting is fun, I enjoy putting together a mod more than playing the game itself! Here is a selection of my mods from my first months in heroclix to some from the last few months. I also enjoy finding a good dial to put the figure upon.
Crossbones was very simple. He has the face of Bane on the body of a Checkmate Medic {minus the staff}. A Vet Henchman dial makes Crossbones the perfect mastermind fodder for the Red Skull!
Ultron 6 was a long time in the inspiration. Then one day I saw a cut up Mage Knight golem in my bitz pile! I took the Ultron torso and put it on top of the golem {minus the legs and arms of course} added a few plastic bits and viola the Ultron antagonist of the Early Avengers!
Purgatori was always one of the most captivating of the 'anti-heroes'. I had the wings from a Mage Knight manticore and the Mage Knight succubus for a year prior to finding the legs for her. Once the Black Queen came out it was off to the chop shop and a lot of the 'ol hair dryer to bend the parts into place. Finally a whip from Sydney Savage and this piece was complete.
I then wanted to do the Lady Death counterpart. I had no inspiration till the Galactus' Herald Contest last year. Lady Death of the Endless Graveyard took the 2nd spot!
She is mostly xplosion Storm with the extras trimmed away and a Fanatic's Sword and a Mage Knight cape added all on top of some skulls, string and bits from 40K pieces.
I took up the Modder's Directory in the Artisan Guild. It is a very useful tool to find inspiration for your own mods.
To me each mod is an extension of myself and my creativity. No matter how simple or complex, each mod that you make is something to be proud of and unique in the heroclix world.
Want your Mod on the front page PM me or email me at [email protected]
C/O FRONT PAGE MOD ARTICLE
Include: A picture of the piece or pieces you want posted, or let me pick
Inclued: A short write up on the time it took to make the pieces, what figures you used and the process in which you went about making it. Also, feel free to include tips on gluing painting, removing pieces from other figures etc....
rock810- I have tried to PM you, but I'm not allowed...
I'd like to submit my Blacklash mod for the Custom Clix feature, but would need your email address. With Armor Wars coming, I think he'd be a perfect match to showcase either now or closer to the release. I have also done a Force figure, but I'm more proud of Blacklash.
As an aside, I've still not heard from Draddog re: the log-in issues. (please remember, I'm really "Stark's Heir"). Thanks!!
Hey rock810 you need to get your site on the modder's directory....as your painting skills are just awesome!!
peace
wes
I just post them I don't paint them. Wish I could paint but I have what is called rhumatic arthritis so the brush shakes in my hand when I try to be really precise and careful. The one's you are referring to belong to FIRSTLENSMAN.
Underdog my e-mail is [email protected] I always post it at the bottom of the informative part of the article.
Man...wish I had a way to get my Prowler, Old School Taskmaster (on an E Taskmaster Dial, natch), Morpheus and a bajillion other mods onto the site. Need to find my camera lol. Seeing stuff like this inspires me to make more.
