IN Zero Hour Power Girl had a baby. What happened to it? And since it was birthed during that temporal crisis maybe it has something to do with the up coming stuff. Conected somehow. And how'd she get knocked up anyways?
The selfish infect us all with sad, vulgar, sexual references and a constant barage of innapropriate innuendo. A pity to be subjected to this against our wills, but to allow it into our lives with open arms shames us all
Kara found herself inexplicably pregnant only a short time thereafter (JLI #52) and gave birth to a blonde-haired son during a temporal crisis (ZERO HOUR #1 and 0). Kara was deeply protective of the child but was appalled when she learned that it had all been a ploy conceived by Arion and other sorcerers to create a champion to destroy the demonic Scarabus. Because it had been prophesied that Arion's great-grandson would defeat the monster, the Atlantean mage ensured it by creating the supernatural pregnancy. Since she and the child were being threatened by Scarabus, Kara accepted protective custody with Justice League America (JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #94).
In JLA #107, Power Girl learned that "Arion and his mages wanted to combine the power of light and darkness to create their ultimate champion. So they took the body of a good little girl and mystically impregnated it with the stolen genetic material of a bad big boy" -- Scarabus. Kara's rapidly aging son surged to adulthood, christened himself Equinox, destroyed the evil one and informed his mother that she'd fulfilled her destiny (JLA #108).
"Are you saying, it's done ?! Where do I go from here ?! If this was all I was made for -- sent to this era for -- and it's over -- what now?!"
"Your life is your own now."
"My life has never been my own. I don't even know what that means!"
Equinox vanished and Kara was left in a deep state of depression: "I used to think something was chemically wrong -- now I wonder if it's because I had Scarabus' genes inside me -- if my rage was his bloodlust. Do you know how horrifying it is for me to 'get mad'?!" (JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #111)

How did they ever explain this away?

I think JSA Classified 1-4 and the Infinite Crisis/OYL reboot has wiped that history out.
Absolutely correct.
And, if I'm remembering correctly, the original plan was for Hal Jordan to be the father, but GL editoral balked at the last minute. All that Atlantean magic hokum was inserted at the last minute.

Why in all of relaity would Jordan had had any chance to be the father of her kid? Did they even know each ohter?

I'm gald they went the way they did, actually establishing that the crisis happened and that PG was tied to that.
Thank God for Geoff Johns. It seems he got DC continuity tightened up moreso than it's ever been.
Till next week, when the Joker of Earth 2 run afoul of New Earth's Batman.
Actually, come to think of it, Joker was shot in the head a few months ago and yet, he's driving around with Robin last week or so, no apparent scar on his face. Hmm...
Ah Hypertime, the saviour of bad writers and Continuity everywhere in the DCU.
As a reader of many DC titles from Crisis up through the mid-90's, I think the main problem at DC was that the various editors were either not in touch with each other, or simply didn't read the books in other editor's lines.
This became a really big problem when a writer (say Giffen or Ostrander) that obviously read every book published by the company would use or include other characters: Death's appearance in Captain Atom, or various character appearances in JL/JLI/JLE...the *big* problems would happen when certain characters were declared "off limits" and the new teams would do absolutely nothing to try and preserve any semblance of continuity. Examples include:
Byrne's Superman not being allowed as part of LSH history
Wonder Woman, Superman, Flash, Green Lantern off-limits for the Justice League (International) relaunch
Mike Grell's Green Arrow
Rac Shade being pinched out of continuity for Pete Milligan
Tim Truman's Hawkman/Hawkworld
The Batman continuity being completely imaginary (Death in the Family, Killing Joke, Alan Grant's Detective, Shoe-horning in the Burton Movies, etc.)
Then you have to consider that DC practically had a mega-crossover every year after Crisis/Origins...it became such joke ("how fast will this book ignore the effects of ____") that one crossover event even changed its planned ending with one month left to go (Captain Atom/Monarch/Hank Hall) just to spite the "fans" who weren't buying that carp anyway.
So yeah, DC had some serious continuity troubles...I'm mostly pleased with what Geoff Johns has done (boo hiss on his treatment of Young Justice and Super Buddies!)...but I am more surprised that he's been given the authority to keep continuity in line (we'll see for how much longer!)
I will give DC some credit, I might not agree with all the after infinite crisis Hokum but all of Continuity is much cleaner now.
I HATE the fact that they made the Batman Begins origin the modern era Batmans origin. Also I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE Richard Donners run on Action Comics. Oh, by the by, Superman is my favorite character. But at least continuity is cleaner and there are no unaccounted for characters. Like Power Girl.
10-2-08 I just put a bunch of stuff on eBay including a numbered Super Skrull Illuminati and a CoG Galactus. Check it out.
No sarcasm at all here. Thank God that I mostly skipped out on DC comics altogether back then. For the most part Marvel as well. That was during my Indy phase, Savage Dragon, Wet Works and the like. It does not sound like I missed much.
