A dozen Avengers stood around the view screen trading worried glances. The East and West coast teams had been having their first official meeting when the news reports had started streaming in.

In Kansas a branch of the Friends of Humanity had decided anyone with super powers needed ‘cleansed’ and attacked an armored hero as he tried to rescue children from a burning building.

In San Francisco a strange creature had crawled from the sea and attacked a bunch of super powered children.

In Detroit HYDRA agents fought a pitched battle with a vigilante who only targeted local gangs.

Everywhere it was the same, super villains attacking targets seemingly at random, chaos reigned on the streets.

“Madness,” said Scarlet Witch.

“Completely baffling,” said The Wasp.

“Brilliant,” said Cap.

They all turned to look at Cap.

“Think about it,” he explained, “by swapping opponents they bring new tactics and abilities to bear against un-prepared heroes. The hero community is reeling; whoever is behind this is a genius.”

“Looks like I chose an interesting time to sign up,” said Ant-Man with a small smile.

“You and me both,” added She-Hulk, “but as far as I know my old team are having just as much trouble.”

“We have to find the source of these vengeful acts,” said Cap, banging his fist for emphasis.

“Verily,” added Thor, “we doth need the services of a seer.”

“They don’t exactly have seers in the phonebook Goldilocks,” said She-Hulk.

“I might know a bloke,” said the Black Knight, the rest of the room turning towards him.

“Where didst though meet this man friend Dane? He speaketh strangely and doth dress funny,” said Thor.

“He speaketh funny? HAHAHA, that’s a good one,” said Hawkeye before bursting in to laughter.

The Black Knight ignored Hawkeye and continued, “Anthony and I went to university together, we kind of drifted together, like geek magnets. We both shared a love of ancient British history, the occult; we played D&D…”

More laughter bellowed from Hawkeye until She-Hulk glared at him and he shut up.

“He’s a bit fruity but he really does know this hocus pocus stuff. He’s our seer if ever there was one,” explained Black Knight.

Iron Man nodded, “We believe you Dane, you word is good enough for us. I just wish Sersi had hung around instead of wandering off to see the sites. Still I left the invitation open.”

“The time has arrived,” announced the pasty, slightly overweight young man in the robes, “bring forth the supplicants!”

Thor and the Scarlet Witch stepped in to the pentagram as the rest of the team formed a circle and held hands.

“Is this all really necessary?” asked Ant-Man, “there is no scientific proof that magic even exists.”

“SILENCE MORTAL! While Doctor Druid is communing with ancient powers none may interrupt!” said the man in the robes.

“Doctor Druid?” asked the Black Knight incredulously, “how long have you been using that rubbish Tony?”

Doctor Druid sighed and broke his chanting, “Dane mate I’ve told you before, don’t mess with me karma while I’m channeling. And considering you’re calling yourself the ‘Black Knight’ now I’d throw less stones if I were you.”

Cap coughed, “Anth…Doctor Druid, time is of the essence.”

With a sigh Doctor Druid completed the ritual, toughing one hand to Thor’s hammer and another to the Scarlet Witch’s forehead. “This enchanted weapon will home in on the signal I am projecting and take you to the source of the disturbance. The fair maiden will ensure that chance does not scatter you across the astral winds. I am sensing six gateways, all leading to a small plain outside of our own sphere of existence. Be ready now!”

There was a flash of light as Thor struck his magic hammer, and when it died down only Doctor Druid remained in the room.

“Well bugger me it worked,” he said.

The Avengers stood squeezed in to a strange conference room with six doors, the sound of clapping came from a chair at the large desk. A small nondescript man sat in the chair smiling at them. “About time you got here, I thought I might have to leave breadcrumbs.”

“We came here for this guy? asked She-Hulk incredulously, “come on shorty, jail for you.” No sooner had She-Hulk laid her hands on the little man she flew across the room and struck the wall, thrown by an invisible force.

“You do not lay hands on me gnat, not even if I were drunk,” stated the man matter of factly.

“Who are thee villain that would strike a maiden?” asked Thor, anger in his voice.

“Always the oaf brother, tis shameful that father holds a muscle bound lummox like you in higher esteem than one of mine wit,” spat the man scornfully.

Thor clutched his hammer tightly, “Brother? Then all along it has been…”

“Aye, LOKI! Loki the trickster, Loki the cunning. You live in the world of these upstart mortals so I knew to lure you out I must stir the hornet’s nest. But now the charade is over, now comes the time of your death, ‘brother’.

With a wave of his hand the man was transformed in to a tall blonde man with a horned helm, and the walls of the building fell to reveal a grey landscape.

“I don’t care who you are mister, you’re no match for both teams of Avengers!” said Iron Man, the other Avengers drawing up behind him and Cap.

“HAHA, you are an arrogant little speck aren’t you knave, I shall enjoy peeling back your metal hide to get at the sweet meats beneath. But you are right, combined against me your puny skills would be too much, but Loki was never the fool.”

With a flash of light six other forms appeared, one of them huge. “You remember your old enemies don’t you dear brother? They certainly remember you,” cackled Loki.

Cap and Iron Man looked at each other and nodded solemnly, resolve replacing fear. “AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!” they shouted in unison. The battle of their lives had begun.

SPECIAL RULES:

Object allocation is doubled.

Only one hero player rolls for obj or init.

Order of play is either villains, hero 1, hero 2; or hero 1, hero 2, villains, depending on initiative.

Whatever order the heroes start in remains so. So you can have hero 1, hero 2, villain, hero 2, hero 1. Once the order is established it is fixed.

Characters on both hero teams are considered friendly for movement and such, and set up on the same side.

However, characters from different teams may not:

Carry each other
TK each other
Perplex or PC each other
Heal each other

They are friendly but not the same team.

I'm so eager to get this baby started that i'm going to roll and hope that Vance will understand my overzealousness:
Init: 6+2=8
Objects: 4+2=6

How many actions? 7 or 8? And if it's 7, how are they divided?

These opponents look absolutely fearsome; very tough enemies....

That would be 8 turns(so four each for you guys). Any time the points are not on the even hundred it gets pumped to the next size game (ie:501 pts would be 6 actions)

This is one of those cases: "Be careful of what you wish for!" I very much wanted an Avengers team-up, but DM's a great player and he's got some awesome figs at his disposal!

The archer named Hawkeye had to wonder for a moment what he had gotten himself into. It seemed like his life had taken on an undesired momentum of its own ever since he accepted that offer from Tony Stark, which was connected with the dropping of all criminal charges. Since then, Hawkeye had been pummeled by Atlantean forces, confronted by living lava men underground, and now he found himself facing a huge giant, a troll, a wizard, and a guy that claimed to be a Norse god. The other Avengers all recalled their training and moved forward toward their enemies. Hawkeye plucked up his courage, readied his bow and joined them.

As She-Hulk and Wasp followed, Black Knight turned to Tigra and asked "Want a lift?"

"Sure Thing." Tigra said as she leaped aboard the Knight's steed. "You've gotten better at driving that thing."

The Knight blushed slightly as he stammered "I've uhhh.. been practicing."

I'm preaty sure DK just wanted to establish that the two avenger teams are two distinct teams.

Outwit will last until the beginning of that players turn. PC can still be used on the other players turn but it will be as an opponent and as such can only be used to force re-roll of one opponent roll per round.

As these 'averagers' or whatever they were calling themselves started to advance. Loki couldn't supress his eveil grin. His plan had worked perfectly.

Here he would defeat his half-brother with the eyes of the Gods upon them.

After Loki dropped Thor's corpse at the feet of Odin his place would be secured andf he would be given the respect he truely deserved.

These creatures of Midgard were a foolish lot, he mused.

"Brother, do you hide behind mortals when faced with a true challenge? Or has being out of Asgard for so long made you one of them?"

Loki thougth himself quite clever but when he looked back he noticed that Enchantress had moved beside him but her eyes were not on him.

When this battle was done..............many things would change.

Oh yes, today would be long remembered.

Nope, if the line from Giant character to character in question crosses blocking terain they are not ajacent.

Dr Henry Pym was new to this super-hero stuff. He allowed Iron Man to carry him to the front line of the impending conflict, but he had to steel his nerves when he saw the giant strides of Hrungnir approaching. As Dr Pym hunkered down beneath a table of sorts, he called for his six-legged friends to come to his and his friends' aid. He remembered the pleasant lunch he had had with Janet a few weeks earlier and almost yearned to be back in the safe confines of his biophysics lab.
